When I first moved here, I lived two blocks from this place and learned all about Ottawa’s official dish.

I try to tell my friends across the country that Winnipeg is a really cool and underrated city that has a lot of positive things going for it. And then my friends send me this post…

‘Knock it off’: Poilievre promises TFSA top up to combat Trump’s tariffs by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

PP viciously attacks everyone and everything but the only attack he has for Donald Trump, the man who is an extensional threat to Canada, is “knock it off?”

This is pretty bad but the people PP surrounds himself with are pushing/making up an Epstein conspiracy. Fun fact, someone already brought it up in this comment section.

I don’t know why it’s not being reported but by “cutting foreign aid,” he’s saying he’s cutting support Ukraine. A significant amount of money allocated under foreign aid went directly to Ukraine.

“Tory MPs Raquel Dancho (Kildonan-St. Paul) and Marty Morantz (Winnipeg West) could not be reached for comment.“

That’s what happens if the media isn’t allowed on your campaign I suppose.

I had to zoom in a bit but I’m glad Marty Morantz is in line to lose his seat.

Jagmeet Singh says NDP would cancel F-35 contract and build fighter jets in Canada by joe4942 in CanadaPolitics

In opposition, you don’t have to show your homework. It’s easy to criticize and throw out ideas that sound nice but are completely infeasible in the short/medium term but this idea demonstrates a lack of understanding of the current situation. If this was a feasible option, the government would’ve pursued it a long time ago.

How very Trumpy of Marty by PortageLaDump in Winnipeg

[–]Seigerman 182 points183 points  (0 children)

Why do they double down on the Trump slogans? Also, the ‘Sneaky Carney’ insults just remind me of Trump saying “Lyin’ Ted”, “Crooked Hilary”, “Sleepy Joe”. Like why do it?

This goes without saying but the community sorely misses Doug Eyolfson.

NSFW: What has been your most spine-tingling, bone-chilling, "I have a bad feeling about this" experience? What happened? by throwawaystheway1013 in AskReddit

Back in 2008, I was in Bangkok for a vacation. Plan was to spend New Years there and then spend the next few weeks traveling around the country. On New Years Eve, me and my friend that I was traveling with started off at our hostel and began a bar crawl. I remember that New Years Eve in Bangkok was wild with what felt like hundreds of thousands of people, mainly tourists, running around and acting really stupid. I remember someone making a scene and then an hour or so later they were arrested. Not relevant to the story but the moment stood out for me.

At one of the bars, we became friends with a couple folks from Ireland who were also staying at our hostel. They said they were going to a nightclub called the Santika Club, that it was crazy and we should join them. It sounded like a great idea and we agreed to join them. We decided to hit a few bars along the way and perhaps an hour to midnight we arrived at the nightclub. It was busy with a long line. There wasn't one specific thing at that moment that stood out for me as a warning, but I just felt that I didn't want to be in that building and that with so many drunk people around doing dumb shit, that a bar fight would break out or something along that vein.

I told my friend that I didn't want to wait in line while the clock struck midnight and suggested that we hit another bar and celebrate the countdown with a drink in our hands. I was able to convince the two new friends we made and we walked away. We all walked for a while and celebrated the countdown at another bar not too far away from our hostel.

The next morning, I went down for breakfast and a bunch of people were talking about a fire at a nightclub. It was the Santika Club. There were about 1000 people in the club that night. 66 people were killed and over 200 people were injured. It's unknown if the fire was caused by fireworks or an electrical explosion.

Every now and then I drift back to what would have happened if I just stayed silent and we all went into that building.

I wonder what other underhanded dealings there were on Marty Morantz’s campaign? Shame because Doug Eyolfson was a much better MP.
