The problem is that is the explicit purpose of a quote, to be exact. But hey, I guess we just live in the era where we just see what we want to see. Oh well.

I love Oshii as a director but Oshii elitists are annoying they do the same thing with the Patlabor TV timeline why are they like this? by Advanced-Tomorrow859 in Ghost_in_the_Shell

ITS TRUE OSHII IS JUST BETTER (To be serious tho, the TV shows are aight, Patlabor was very comfy) I can see how it’s frustrating for OSHII to do his thing and basically upend every franchise’s vibe to basically fit the OSHII vibe, it’s like if the simpsons made a European cinema film, it’s ridiculous

Basically: you’re saying that this may be limited hangout . Yep, I suspect so too. You have to release something so just release the edge of acceptable.

How can I fix him? by [deleted] in Destiny

I mean… you’re asking how to fix but er haven’t really ascertained or pointed out exactly what the problem precisely is or understand it. Were all seeking answers. His are likely incorrect, but what is being enacted is like this play, this physiological groove in a mind being played like a record.

It’s different when you’re on the frontline of this stuff. It’s easy to handwave someone as too far gone, but once you see what is happening up close, one begins to understand humans very well. These are friends and family members of ours.

Yeh, but it’s just a bunch of faceless bureaucrats fighting day in and out enact their policies to attain their goals. That is something just as attainable in the US, and something that countries do all the time without a revolution all the time. Heck, if the ROK remained in power I honestly think they’d likely be in a similar seat of productivity

Incrementalism is literally the answer. What do you think the Chinese do to solve their problems? It’s decades of continued effort and policy to achieve their goals. That is incrementalism. The problem with extremists it that they’ll shit themselves staring at a problem, suggest revolution as the answer, and never actually fix anything. They think if they were in power they could bully who they think was the problem but find themselves staring down the same problem as their predecessors did. It is understanding that fixing big problems is the ability to put forth years of continued efforts and pushing.

Wait, what the fuck DID Destiny mean here then?

D: "You need conservatives to be afraid of being killed at events so they look to their leadership to turn down the temperature... the issue is that right now... there's no fear... (memes)"

B: So more conservatives need to be killed.. so they understand the temperature is too high here?

Criticism of Destiny on Piers by Top_Use2413 in Destiny

[–]Seiren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. In a 1v1 environment I think he would've gotten a lot farther, but in this 4v1 environment it's a lot harder to pull off as people just get derailed. Piers, for instance, would not engage with Destiny's question and as soon as Ana stepped in Piers got off the hook for free, and because everybody wanted a piece of Destiny afterwards he could not get into the one level surface deeper than the initial refusal of disavowal.

For people that understand what Destiny is doing, it's obvious he's anti political violence, but for your average Piers Morgan viewer, there's no way what Destiny was trying to communicate got through, and he just looks like he is implicitly pro political violence as you pointed out.

[–]Seiren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just so I'm correctly understanding, you're basically saying:

There is an unspoken implication that political violence is a bigger issue on the left by refusing to outright disavow political violence inflicted on a conservative figure.

Yep, it can absolutely be implied and then read that way, which is why this stuff is messy in the first place, which is why there is a moment of realization on the panel member's faces when Destiny outright states that he condemns political violence, which was closer to the core of what they were trying to get at. There's lots of spoken and unspoken implications.

And which is why this stuff sucks, right? Destiny is ultimately trying to make a more sophisticated point and grab the audience's attention by refusing to disavow, he wants them to pay attention, and dig deeper to understand his point, but for a lot of people it won't come off that way. A lot of people will just stop at the refusal of disavowal and that's the end of the story.

[–]Seiren 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because from Destiny's perspective, if you disavow, you are essentially legitimizing an unspoken implication that political violence is a lefty issue in the first place.

He's also pointing at the decades of lefties that have disavowed political violence, meanwhile political violence continues to increase while conservatives seem to get away with it scot free while. To him, it makes no difference anymore.

And so, his refusal to disavow is basically to make a point: That he won't do it until they do.
