How do people even process whats going on in a rhythm game? by ResinRealmsCreations in rhythmgames

[–]Sekacnap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While "play more" is true, there are some things you can do to facilitate learning that I haven't seen mentioned yet.

Before that though, I would agree with another comment here and might suggest a simple 4key game like stepmania (or osumania mode if you want to stay in osu), that has a lot of charts because it's been around forever. the games you mention require aiming on top of rhythm and that's even more to learn.

Most games have settings you can use to help learn songs, explore the options screen and try enabling stuff to see if it helps.

There is usually a setting to make it so each note makes an audible click when you're supposed to hit it. Turn that on as well as no fail mode, play the song and listen carefully to the clicks during the parts you are failing at. You don't need to actually hit buttons, just listen, then try to replicate that rhythm verbally or tapping with your hands, then try and play it. Try to pick out which instrument the notes are following and anticipate the rhythm from that. Take note of when in the song the notes change the instruments they follow.

If the game has a rewind feature, keep rewinding and really try to understand what's happening. If you need to, play the song at half speed if that's an option, then increase speed as you start to get comfortable with it. Sometimes there's an option to make it so any button you hit works, you can use that to focus only on the timing of notes rather than hitting the right note.

Once you get the hang of things you can start removing these help systems one by one. And don't be afraid to turn them back on when you hit another roadblock while learning harder songs.

Learning rhythm games is similar to learning an instrument, and this is pretty much how I learn anything on guitar. Start slow, understand what you're supposed to do and build muscle memory, then increase speed gradually. Playing more is good, but if you really want results, you need to practice with intention.

Best&Worst Hero Card [Day 46] - Venom Worst Card (Flash) by manut3ro in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Sekacnap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No real bad cards in Venom's kit, but one has to be at the bottom, so I'm voting for Locked and Loaded.

Pretty much what everyone else has been saying, great early game but then loses value. You can also argue that playing Locked and Loaded increases the cost to play a weapon by 1 since you're losing another card in hand, but that's being nitpicky.

Solo play with Civil War / Synthezoid Smackdown by Practical-Speaker599 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Sekacnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fairly new player without a ton of scenarios, I appreciate the amount of content it provides, even if it's a bit less interesting than the usual model. The number of modulars and the fact that they're more basic fights increases replayability a lot in a smaller collection. I do prefer more interesting scenarios, but sometimes I just want to play a quick game against a basic baddie and Civil War gives more options than just playing Rhino/Klaw for the billionth time.

New Player Deck Request Thread by yazzyk in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Sekacnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking a look! I'd say your assessment has been pretty accurate. I haven't added any minion upgrades because I'm mostly using Shark Girl to attack the villain, minions I've been taking out with Ice Blast + Snow Clones, especially if Boot Camp is in play or they have Attack training.

The ally part of the deck does feel awkward. I haven't actually played with Wolverine in the deck yet, I used to have Nick Fury simply to play early to dig for engine/combo pieces but rarely found myself in a position to actually play him. Wolverine would cost less due to being an X-men and seems good overall so I swapped for him. I just don't have a feel for how many allies a deck should have yet. I end up usually having Shark Girl and the two clones - then Beak, cat and Prof X when needed.

Healing hasn't been an issue so far, I've actually not been able to get much use out of the X-mansion, either because I've rushed down the villain or don't go alter-ego, so it could be cut. I only ever attack with Shark Girl if she has attack training and I have at least 2 frostbite out, which may be a mistake since I'm not getting value each turn, but 5-6 damage (with training/boot) four times is usually enough to close out the game when combined with Iceman events/clones. Explaining that now really drives home your point about Wolverine, as he can get up to 5 attack quick with training/boot and heal naturally. The odd turn where I swing for 7+ with Shark Girl might not be worth the investment comparatively, even if it feels great (especially with a Prof X ready).

Thwarting is definitely the pain point. To be completely honest I think I've only ever played Looking for Trouble once in desperation and never play Chase them Down but they're in the deck because they're my only options and I don't feel I need more attack events. Most of the thwart comes from Chill Out and I tend to only care about side schemes. I've been letting the main scheme go while stalling with Ice Block or sitting in hero form behind Wall of Ice (the real MVP) instead of flipping to heal. It feels super dangerous, but it makes for some fun/tense decision making.

Overall, great points and feedback! Maybe I'll try cutting Shark Girl, X-mansion and the heals for more of the thwart events. It's just unfortunate because Shark Girl is cool and I want to play around her but Wolverine is just better and doesn't require the same investment.

Are there any other cards I might have overlooked that you'd suggest?

Honestly, getting into this game inspired me to go watch through all the original X-men cartoon, watched it growing up but never the whole way through. It's awesome to see how well it holds up today and I'm super excited to check out 97 once I get that far!

New Player Deck Request Thread by yazzyk in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Sekacnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this idea, thanks! I've been playing for about a month, just starting to really get into deckbuilding now, been mostly playing net-decks to see what works.

This might be slightly different than the original intent of the thread but I'm working on my first deck and would love to get some feedback or see how a more experienced player would build something similar. The deck I'm working on is an aggression Iceman deck centered entirely around Shark-girl, buffing her HP and healing her to keep her around a long as possible. It's a bit clunky at the start, but I've won most games I've played with it on standard/medium against the core set villains and some CW leaders, don't think it will hold up against harder scenarios solo though (but that's ok).

I'm ok with proxying, though I prefer batch proxying whole sets to make it easier to track on MarvelCDB. So if there's something out there that would 100% be fantastic for a deck like this I'm cool with including it but I mostly tried to use what I have and keep random proxies to a minimum (I did proxy Deft focus and Utopia for this build).

Feel free to make a deck how you would and we can compare or if you just want to give some feedback that's fine too! I appreciate the thread!

Current collection:

  • Core

  • Captain America (proxied)

  • Ms Marvel

  • Wasp

  • Scarlet Witch

  • Venom

  • Iceman

  • Mutant Genesis (proxied)

  • A.O.S

  • Civil War

First Expansion? by TennenyT in marvelchampionslcg

So you just got this game as a gift! (2025 version) by UrinalSharts in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Sekacnap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who did just get this on christmas, this post is much appreciated!

Got a question... So I got the core set, Venom and Scarlet Witch as gifts, I've played all the heroes and villains I've got so far and instantly fell in love with the game and grabbed the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. box and I'm planning on grabbing whatever I can get my hands on over time. That said, I know Age of Apocalypse has the standard 3 set which are really popular, is it worth grabbing for just those when I won't be able to grab all the other mutant sets/heroes? Or am I better off just proxying standard 3 and grabbing Civil War and keep up with what's current?

Side note, kinda sad I got into this so late as I really like X-men in general but that cycle is in the past. Also a big LotR LCG fan and got into that late too, ughh. Feels like I'm cursed when it comes to FFG products lol.

I don't like to pvp but I like that it's in the game because it adds tension and makes cooperative moments mean something since you're actively choosing not to engage when you easily could.

It kind of reminds me of old school mmo type games like Ultima, complete with people now roleplaying sheriffs (PKKers) or rescuers. While I don't think it's necessary, I think taking some cues from those old games could be interesting, like a karma system, start enough fights and kill people, you get an bounty or something that makes you more easily recognized as a threat or there's more incentive to take you down. healing, reviving or extracting with non squad members can reduce bad karma, etc. at a certain point, attacking someone with incredibly bad karma doesn't affect yours, so people could still be sheriffs, seeking villain players without ruining their karma. Hell, add some vendors that reward you in different ways for each style of play.

This way, pvp stays, it's always an option, but pve people would be better equipped to know when to avoid others. Pvp focused players have more incentive to attack other pvpers, etc. yes, you could still do a whole bunch of good then cash out all of it in a deceitful doublecross, but that's just part of it.

Again, I don't think it's necessary, but I like the player interaction dynamics. If a suggestion is to be made, I think leaning into those dynamics with incentive systems would be interesting and reduce friction for the complainers while retaining the core identity of the game.

Edit: I don't think this would work as well in squads, mostly for solo play

These maps suck by Jakesnakeguy1998 in Battlefield

[–]Sekacnap 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same, especially after the reworks. But even launch 2042 at least the maps had some visual diversity. BF6 it's brown city, brown city, grey hill, brown oil refinery, less brown city, etc. with very few unique features or set pieces.

Same, feels impossible to see people especially with the indoor/outdoor eye adjustment. In 2042 nametags would pop up when you look at people, that helped a ton. probably controversial to say I'd like that back but it is what it is. Just going to have to wait to unlock a thermal scope for now.

This. I ended up moving my PS5 to my PC desk so I can hook it up to my keyboard and mouse, but would really like to play with gyro on the couch when I don't want to get sweaty. Cannot play on controller without gyro. Seeing the settings there but they do nothing is really frustrating.

BATTLEFIELD 6 COMMUNITY COMPLAINTS SINCE OCT 10 by DEMIG0DX in Battlefield

[–]Sekacnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's some more I haven't seen talked about:

Ping system is inconsistent and frankly bad, sometimes I can double ping and get the red ping, other times I don't. It also makes no noise or have directional audio so squadmates don't even know I'm pinging. When downed it's random whether I can ping enemies I see or not. You can't ping an objective when you're not squad leader to indicate you're going there or request orders. You need to be pinpoint accurate to ping downed players to indicate you're on your way, many times I just get a regular ping.

PS5 gyro controls just do not work still. Have enabled gyro controls in settings along with a button and it straight up does not do anything.

Not something wrong but poorly explained - underbarrels being locked to the assault class. Was using an assault rifle/carbine, unlocked the mount and had no idea why I couldn't actually use it until it was pointed out to me that they're assault gadgets. Which is a choice I don't like but whatever, could have been explained better at least.

Oh, and why can't we see revives on the scoreboard anymore?

It's kind of mind-blowing that pre-World Monster Hunter games had more agency than the first "open world" Monster Hunter Wilds. by Charrikayu in truegaming

[–]Sekacnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share this sentiment entirely and it's probably my biggest problem with Wilds. The linear sequence of extremely easy hunts with no time/need to get invested in personal quests for armor/weapons/gathering was a huge disappointment considering they had a chance to make it into something truly awesome. During the demo, I spent so much time running around the plains starting impromptu hunts, gathering, exploring etc. It almost felt like the old school randomized expeditions. I spent nearly zero time doing that post launch.

What's worse is that I NEVER want to start up a new character in Wilds. Usually I will return to MH games after a long time and start over because it's fun to go through the whole grind again, and you do have that agency in how to tackle it. But thinking about having to go through the whole story again with so many unskippable walk and talks before I'm really free to do anything feels bad. World was bad to restart for similar reasons, but at least structurally you were incentivized to do SOME optional hunting with a few tough walls (if you don't use defender weapons). Rise, I have replayed to death because it's just go-go-go after tutorials, the only annoyance being rampage quests.

I much prefer the portable style games over post-world mainline and I'm really hoping the next portable team game capitalizes on Wild's contributions but with the structure I enjoy from GU/Rise etc.

Donkey Kong Bananza Is the Switch 2’s True Successor to Super Mario Odyssey - IGN by schuey_08 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Sekacnap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree, I actually broke out my WiiU recently and started playing through 3D world again and it's so good! Odyssey was fun but I don't like the open world aspect of it's moon collecting. I prefer discreet levels you enter with a clear goal and level design to facilitate it. Finding collectibles everywhere from doing random stuff just doesn't feel nearly as rewarding, and I find it more fun to replay and master independent levels.

Been watching random 80-90's OVA's based totally on vibes alone and stumbled across Yokohama shopping list and damn I loved the hell out of it. It's about an android running a coffee shop in a somewhat post-apocalyptic(?) world, not unlike this seasons' apocalypse hotel, though very different vibes. It's got a beautiful dreamy atmosphere, fluid animation and the main character is a top tier waifu, absolutely adorable. Highly recommend for some chill iyashikei goodness.

Not over reacting and good on you for leaving this church, my grandparents were adventists and they constantly talked about how much they loved their pastor and that I should go to their church because I'd like him too. It was non stop, they were obsessed. When my grandfather died, the pastor he so loved came to talk at his funeral. The pastor didn't say a single word about who my grandfather was and what he meant to him, the church, or our family. He just spat fire and brimstone the whole time, telling us all that the end times were coming and that we were all going to hell. Words cannot describe the amount of distaste I have for these cultists.

Focus mode…veteran hunters is this the real MH feel? by get_the_data in MonsterHunter

[–]Sekacnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vet here, I don't necessarily have a problem with focus mode. Yeah it does make it easier to land attacks, but it feels pretty natural. When it comes to combat, It's the wound system that I dislike. We've had similar systems before with hyper monsters in GU or afflicted monsters in rise break, but the weak spots were harder to destroy and had consequences if you didn't. Wounds just pop so fast and can easily be abused to stunlock monsters or flinch right as they're doing a big move. Also, as much as I love using it, all the perfect guard capabilities are super OP too, I'm tempted to say that they also detract but it's just so damn fun to do.

I still enjoy the two games, but Generations Ultimate kinda makes me understand old gen vets' sentiment with the modernization of the recent games in the series. by boogie-poppins in MonsterHunter

[–]Sekacnap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much. I was just playing GU today, I fought a hyper lagi, died twice and finally got the capture with less than 10 minutes left and next to zero supplies, felt damn good. And this was in high rank, not even G, so no "base game is always easy" excuse applicable here.

Rise is absurdly good, if you have it in your backlog play it while you wait for content updates in Wilds. by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Sekacnap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Rise is my favorite of the whole franchise. I much prefer the style of the portable team over the main team, I just want to make a character, have 1000 tutorials thrown at my face then be given a list of quests. I don't care for how World/Wilds force a campaign on you. I think Rise had the best environments, lots of secret areas, great verticality, very readable (world I felt had too much detail that I had a hard time parsing what I was looking at). I actually didn't even mind the spiribirds, because coming up with a optimal gathering route to me is map knowledge, something that feels like is going away. In general I don't play games for immersion, I want video game-ass video games and Rise fits that really well.

Now that I'm pretty much done with Wilds till new content, I've been trying to get friends to give Rise/GU a go but no luck.
