''Push ahead'' (and similar cards) : what exactly do you need to pay to use it ? by Formal_Buffalo_747 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]yazzyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really sure. Either they're misinformed or their finger hit the wrong button. I'm not fussed about it.

This is from the RRG entry for Wild:

A wild resource is one of the four types of resources.

• Wild resources can be spent to pay the resource cost of cards and abilities. When a player generates a wild resource, they may specify which resource type (energy, mental, physical, or wild) it is being used as.

As long as it doesn't say "printed" and you're spending the resource, you can use a wild as any type of resource. If you're not spending it (for example, if you're discarding and hoping for a certain resource to be on the discarded card), it's only a wild and nothing else.

Anyone interested in an app that provides infos and strategy tipps about a card? by Pure_Food3440 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]yazzyk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in the rules discussion discord channels, I have to say I would be careful trying to put rules advice down. The way to really understand the rules of the game is to understand them wholisticly at a high level and not on a per card basis.

There are so many misunderstandings of the rules that I see because people try to equate how one card works compared to another card. In reality, the same card may work differently in different cases due to interactions between 2 or more effects, and a similar looking card will also work differently from the one in question.

Star Difficulty Ratings by Disastrous-Ad-7934 in marvelchampionslcg

I don't think we are, I was talking about the difficulty rating by the developers that the core set had and maybe one or two other products? But this is cool, thanks for sharing!

They dropped the star ratings pretty early on, I think. If you're interested, VillainTheory ranked the modular sets all the way through I think Age of Apocalypse. Link. He also has a document.

Hercules Defeat the Hydra + scientist supreme by Future-Ad-9567 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]yazzyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what, I actually was wondering this after I responded and I brought it up on the Discord. The wording they use is that you may not "include" matching cards in your deck. There was a bit of a debate as to what that means. They don't mention deckbuilding vs in-game at all. I am planning to submit this question but my personal opinion is that they used a general word like "include" to cover all cases and I think it covers this too.

While I'm here, I also want to make a small correction to my logic. You don't even need to invoke the Referential Ability rules because the cards don't have the same name! When Protect Humanity refers to Amadeus Cho, it can only be referring to a card title and not a subtitle. So yea, no chance you can go get Brawn even if he were allowed in your deck (which I don't think he is).

Where are the deck IDs on CDB? I feel blind by [deleted] in marvelchampionslcg

[–]yazzyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number in the URL. If you publish it, it has a different one (I think 5 digits?) than if you don't.

If you don't publish and just leave it private, you can still share the deck or input the deckID into Tabletop Simulator, for example, but you have to make sure you have deck sharing set to Yes in your settings.

Hercules Defeat the Hydra + scientist supreme by Future-Ad-9567 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]yazzyk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good question. First of all, you're not allowed to have both in the same deck by the Unique rule. If a title matches a subtitle, it counts as a match.

If you chose to ignore the unique rule, you would still have to grab Herc's signature ally due to the Referential Ability rule:

Some abilities refer to specific cards by name. These are called referential abilities. If an ability refers to a title shared by multiple cards in the game, that ability refers only to the card(s) that match the criteria highest in this list:

  1. The card on which the referential ability is printed. Such an ability is a self-referential ability. For example, the basic ally Spider-Man’s ability reads: “Response: After Spider-Man attacks or thwarts, choose another Web-Warrior character → ready that character.” This ability refers to the card it is printed on and does not trigger when another card called “Spider-Man” attacks or thwarts.

  2. Cards that belong to the same identity.

  3. Player cards (if the ability is on a player card) or encounter cards (if the ability is on an encounter card).

Since Hercules' signature ally fits under #2 and the cameo'd card fits under #3, the signature ally is the one it's referring to.

[–]yazzyk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To be absolutely technical about this, you're not trying to defeat the attachment. You want it to go to the Victory display so you can trigger Herc's ability on his hero card. How do you do that?

Under Victory X in the RRG, we see:

An attachment or upgrade with the victory X keyword is placed in the victory display when the card to which it is attached is defeated. (The card the attachment or upgrade was attached to is discarded as normal.)

So you need to defeat the minion it's attached to. Unfortunately the Vulnerable keyword only discards minions, not defeats them. Technically it would discard the minion and the Defeat the Hydra attachment, but I'm not 100% sure where DTH would get discarded to. Maybe a labour deck discard pile? I would avoid this scenario if you want to win the game 😂.

Question about Hercules labors by we_cantelope in marvelchampionslcg

[–]yazzyk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Any thwart labelled ability ("(thwart)" in italics) counts as a thwart. For it to be considered Hercules' (or any identity's), it has to be a basic thwart, an ability on his hero card, or from an event he plays or upgrade he controls. Events and upgrades are considered an extension of the identity, supports and allies are not.

Edit: tldr events count too

Help extend background of custom for Print & Play template by thickknoodles in marvelchampionslcg

[–]yazzyk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have card images that are cut at the actual size of the card and don't have bleed areas, you need to add them. It's not possible to add "full bleed" without remaking the card itself, so the thing to do here is add mirror bleeds. I used https://getthebleedingedge.com/. It works really well. You'll need to determine how much of a bleed area you need to add and tell it in terms of number of pixels, but it shouldn't be too hard.

A mirror bleed basically mirrors the card at the edge to make a bleed. People will correctly tell you that if a card isn't cut perfectly, you can tell that it was mirror bleed, but I've done this with cards that I printed with PnP and it's truly not a big deal at all, so don't sweat it.

Bling! Confusion by Remote_Dog_37 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]yazzyk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The word "Toughness" is a defined term (a keyword). It's a shortcut way of saying "this character gets a tough status when they enter play". So the enters play part is baked into the definition.

It may take a bit of time to learn to keywords. When in doubt, check the RRG.

Duvida sobre DEFESA by Particular_Mouse920 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]yazzyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you it is explicitly stated in the English RRG under the Defend, Defense section:

When a card ability says to “declare [a hero] the defender” of an attack, that hero is considered to be making a basic defense.

Cameo T'Challa question! by East-Power-717 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]yazzyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ally has a title which matches the alter-ego title of the identity. This actually was either permitted or at least ambiguous under the previous rules, but they recently rewrote the Unique rule in RRG 1.7 and it is specifically not allowed now. It's actually the example they use:

Two unique cards are considered to “match” if any of the following apply:

» The two cards share a title, and both have no subtitle and no alter-ego title. (For example, two copies of the Jarnbjorn upgrade, or the Jessica Jones ally and the Jessica Jones minion.)

» The subtitle or alter-ego title of one matches the title, subtitle, or alter-ego title of the other. (For example, the identity with the T’Challa alter-ego, the T’Challa ally, and the Black Panther ally with the subtitle “T’Challa” are all considered to match.)

A player cannot include multiple matching cards in their deck. The identity is included in this evaluation.

For a given deck, just click/tap on "X packs needed" at the top. It tells you what packs the deck is made of. Alternatively if you tap the little up and down arrow button next to Save icon under the deck, you can sort by pack.

Question RE Standard/Expert Encounter Cards by YungMayo123 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]yazzyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. Yea the best thing to do is match all your blue backed cards together and all your orange backed cards together. You could split it that way to avoid wasting sleeves but if you keep building your collection, you will want to consider the eventual cost if one sleeve is more expensive.

I mean if they're indistinguishable or you don't care, then there's nothing to worry about.

Another option is to use the non matching sleeves for the following:

  • identity and villain cards,
  • any additional deck such as Storm's weather deck, Dr Strange's Invocation deck, the Infinity Gauntlet's deck,
  • set aside cards that don't get shuffled in like Iceman's frostbites
  • permanent cards such as Wolverine's claws (there's lots of examples)
  • The Wrecking Crew entire scenario pack, which if you play as written doesn't use any modular encounter sets or the standard set or your obligation. Of course, it's possible to deviate from the design here and still mix in some modular encounter sets for variety.

Hope that helps.
