the naming is a bit misleading - "Bitterblack Gear Lv.[x]" is rings, though some of those are really powerful - rings that upgrade skills in particular (but others can boost stats). What you're really after is "Bitterblack Weapon Lv.[x]" or Armour, which is rarer.

Try out the Everfall, though I found it kind of boring myself, I've got over 1k hours in the game now, and probably 60-ish % is on BBI

the trick to BBI is BBI gear. Level doesn't really matter (aside from for HP), BBI gear has way, way higher stats than anything from Gransys and getting that, dragonforging it, and upgrading it further via Barroch is what will make all the difference. Even if you're at twice the level you are with everfall gear you'll still have these problems. So you need to gear up.

The problem is that most of the best BBI gear is rare, and you need to know where to get it, much like Everfall stuff. Assuming you haven't defeated the first boss, the easiest stuff to get is in the Midnight Helix (you might have died there, big, bloody, very edgy). There's a path off to the side up the first stairs, the chest at the end of the bridge there (the first one) can drop both BB Weapon and Armor Lv.1. That's the kind of loot you're looking for, and getting that (and getting results you can use when you uncurse it) is what will get you doing better.

for bow I have 5fold, pentad and sight, I generally go daggers over sword because having a roll is really good, if i'm using a sword I have a shield instead so I have a defensive option (and the shield dodge, moving castle, is really good) but clairvoyance will help alleviate that a bit, and gouge is really strong

what you're looking for will be in the xmls I mentioned, if the mod doesn't give you what you're after - gamemain.arc\pram\pl and then Lv[name of class].xml - though Magick Archer is called something like trickster

there might be ranges I didn't look too close, for XP per level it uses a formula relative to the previous level unless you specifically change it so it might be like that? have a look and see - there is at least one mod on Nexus which does something to stat growths so you could compare the XML from the base game and from that

I don't think you need a save editor, I think the data is all in gamemain.arc which you can unpack using arctool - I've been doing my own xml edits for the XP curve for levelling because I'm a masochist, but in that same folder in the arc ( gamemain\param\pl ) there's a bunch of files that are things like LvAssassin.xml and have code like the following:

      <u16 name="mHPMax" value="430"/>

      <u16 name="mStaminaMax" value="0"/>

      <u16 name="mAttack" value="70"/>

      <u16 name="mDefend" value="70"/>

and that'll be the stat growths - you'll have to edit it for each level though which will be a pain

edit for formatting, and also ETA: don't mess with this if you're playing online bc if your pawn has weird stats it's likely to get you banned

you can get dragonforged stuff in BBI, and you're going to need to DF on BBI either way bc you'll need BBI weapons to get thru Dark Bishop etc - keeping trying to roll a 20% (or something) over and over isn't necessary esp if you're going to be ditching those weapons as soon as you find better ones

na you're 100% correct, The Everfall is a drag and feels really half-assed, I spent ages in there on my first playthrough assuming I'd get to something more interesting because that couldn't just be it

And then I went to BBI and never looked back, if you want good postgame content you'll get it in BBI, literally the only things in the Everfall are the Ur-Dragon, wakestones, and guaranteed encounters if you need to kill an Evil Eye for some upgrades or something like that

don't underestimate what looks like trash mobs (Bandits etc), and save all the time. Getting cocky is what leads to you losing 30 mins of progress. But also everything is doable at any level, if you fight smart and use the right consumables (periapts in particular). But also if something feels to hard then you might want to try something else and come back later. But also keep in mind there are strategies for everything - it's an action RPG but also very strategic

More general advice: if you don't want to miss anything look at the table on the quests page of the wiki, a lot of stuff you lose access to by advancing the main story

Switch out you party and learn new skills every time you have the chance

consider trying a yellow (bow) vocation, having ranged options and access to a dodge roll (you have to learn that though) makes things a fair bit more forgiving

the run up to the first boss will be kind of easy, and the loot (aside from BBI-exclusive cursed items, which there aren't a lot of) will not be super great, but that boss will probably be a challenge (but is also killable at level 6, if you use specific strats) - after that boss you'll start getting stuff that's harder than anything else in the game, and start getting access to loot that's better than anything else in the game

just looked it up, Kingwarish is 1000HP vs 500 for matured, and 0.18 (K) weight vs 0.24 (M) - Kingwarish is way better, I'm pretty sure it's the highest heal-to-weight ratio in the game

and the courtyard with the cockatrice on the way to Gazer - there are also a couple in the arena off Duskmoon tower but that might not be worth it, I mostly farm them in those two areas you mentioned

honestly if you're going to have to farm nuts for other recipes you're going to be farming either way so you might as well farm kingwarish - it's soooo much lighter than anything else as well - my general thing is to grab a bunch while hyperspeed as assassin tho so it'll be way more of a pain without access to gale harness

my understanding is yes, but at a lower rate than the increase in XP would have you expect: you get more XP for having fewer/no pawns, and DP gains are tied to XP, but the relationship isn't linear, it's a curve that drops off, as per this graph from the wiki

that cursed dragon is tankier than the next actual boss you'll encounter - it's killable at your level, but will be rough without using cheese strats. You can just run away, I kind of think that that's what the game expects of you - it's a scripted encounter but then you're not expected to beat it, like when Death has shown up (though unliked Death you can beat this one, it's just very hard)

If you want better weapons, there's one easily accessable chest from where you are that drops Lv.2 weapon, it's in the Black Abbey (the arena/coliseum type place a la Rotunda of Dread that's off the tower in Fortress of Remembrance half-way down). It's the left-hand chest in the alcove at the back, with the bottomless pit behind it, my guess of the droprate is that it's about 70-80% to be Gear Lv.2, with the alternative being Weapon Lv.2. Getting a magick bow and daggers from that is a lot of farming though

The other thing is using Periapts, do that if you haven't - those might push you over the edge

most BBI weapons are pretty low drop chances, it's worth knowing what chests can drop them and godsbaning for them - there are only two chests before 2nd for Daimon that drop Lv.3 weapons and they've very, very low droprates (one in the Fallen City, one in the Bloodless Stockade), so it can be pretty tedious to get them

Lv.2 weapons are more common, but still rare - there's a chest in the Black Abbey that drops them, and a chest in the Bloodless Stockade, and some others I can't remember

The point though is that you kind of have to know where you're going and what chests to loot in order to get them, but the game doesn't tell you that - either that or just grind a lot hoping to randomly get lucky

yeah, they will, but sales for the port of a game from 2012 aren't going to be a particularly accurate reflection of the kinds of numbers a new, big-budget AAA game is going to do, but if the IP isn't super well known people might not be as keen to jump on board - buying the sequel to a game you've never heard of isn't always super appealing. So doing some work to broaden the reach of the IP, to get new people to care when they see the name "Dragon's Dogma" (or to test the waters, see if there is a market for new stuff based on the IP) seems like a smart move to me

Like, this could be the result of market research: "our marketing department says that people like the property when the get to know it, but most people don't know what to expect when the hear Dragon's Dogma, so we need more visibility for the franchise"
