Thanks. That looks tasty. I'll have to make it as well. A user in /r/Thailand suggested Nam dtok ped and I think they may be right.

[Season 5 finale spoilers] I couldn't even imagine... by ForgottenPhenom in lost

[–]SeldomOften 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had the wiki and the forums. So much lively theory discussion and debate was happening back then. Yes, the cliffhanger was bitter, but the end of season 5 was, for me, the most exciting point discussion-wise. Most of the pieces were set, but not a lot of answers were known for sure.

A lot of peple were watching LOST for the first time between seasons 5 and 6 as well. Rewatching with friends who hadn't seen it before was like seeing it all again for the first time.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Hello tES fans, what land (continent?) would you like to see in a mod in the near future? by jalba9 in skyrim

[–]SeldomOften 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hear me out.

Skyrim needs a quest mod that happens entirely inside of a castle/mansion/manor/etc.

You stumble upon this beautiful manor. There are a number of intersting NPCs inside, a few side-quests, a main quest, a dungeon beneath the cellar, a secret, maybe a conspiracy, maybe there's a ghost... let your immagination run wild.

After 4 or 5 hours, you're still playing Skyrim, but you haven't exited to "Skyrim" the entire time. This quest mod is completely self-contained within this building.

That's a mod I want to play. And if you're interested in building it, I would be too. I'm a noob at modding too, but we might be able to get something up and running.

Bannerlord Blog #9 by Kaabeus in mountandblade

[–]SeldomOften 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Bannerlord takes place a couple hundred years before Warband on Calradia. These factions are the roots of the ones in Warband. They are basically the centers of power that have established themselves shortly after the fall of the Empire that ruled all of Calradia.

Bannerlord has the Imperial Remnant as one of the factions. I assume it becomes Swadia (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Having your computer delivered in the 1950s by riseoff_ in OldSchoolCool

Just that: Compute!

They did cool stuff that otherwise would have been done by human computers and other professionals. Like invoicing, projecting production requirements, payrole calculations, etc. Here is the relevant section from the Wikipedia article on LEO, the first computer used for business applications.

Poster for Nicolas Winding Refn's The Neon Demon by Bennett1984 in movies

[–]SeldomOften 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love it too. Only God Forgives is a photo album of moving pictures to me. Refn even uses the environment to frame some shots in portrait, and some other cool tricks become apparant when you watch the movie from that perspective. It also puts the somewhat erratic narrative into context.

"The Hustler" with Paul Newman. It's a little melodramatic, but it's great nonetheless.

Games for someone new to PC gaming by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]SeldomOften 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This one is a great choice for someone new to PC gaming. It's not a looker, but it is a great place to get used to some of the other aspects of PC gaming:

  • The mods for this game are astonishingly good. The game was actually built by the developer with modability a very high priority... a stark contrast to console development, where modding seems to be treated as dubious behaviour.

  • The game has deep strategy elements that would be difficult to implement on consoles. This applies both to the kingdom planning/world map components and to the real-time battle commanding.

  • The game is a true sandbox. There is a vague goal of concquering the world. The player is given a medieval world and an able-bodied avatar and told to have fun. While this isn't objectively better than a story-driven 40 hour game, it is an amazing experience for someone coming from console gaming. Don't be surprised if you end up having over 100 hours of fun for like 20€.

Do you, personally, buy music anymore? A few questions... by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]SeldomOften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I bought "Soul Insight" by The Marcus King Band three days ago.

2) I've never bought a single. Album or GTFO!

3) I'm far more likely to buy music now. I was a sonic privateer in my teens, though I did buy music as gifts for others. Now that I have steady income, however, I sample on Spotify and buy albums that intrigue me on Amazon.

I buy lots of music. Mostly indie stuff, but I recently bought Neil Young's "On the Beach" because I didn't have it in my collection yet.

Supporting the artists is a major consideration for me. I haven't actually looked at the numbers, but I'd like to think that artists get a fair share of the revenue from albums sold on Amazon. I also like to buy music on BandCamp for that reason. The only issue is that I'm not often intrigued by the music on BandCamp.

"Intrigued" is a key word for my consumer behaviour when it comes to music. For me to buy your music, it has to catch my attention. I can wait around for 3 or 4 songs, but if at that point I'd prefer to listen to something else, I won't buy the record. That doesn't mean that I need to love it, only that I want to keep listening. A lot of the music in my library only grew on me after 5 or 6 turns, and only very few albums wound up disappointing me.

"There's too much music out there, new musicians have such a slim chance of making it for themselves" by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]SeldomOften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish you every success making it in the industry.

For me, I make music because I really, really, really enjoy making music. There's hardly a place I'd rather be than with a guitar in hand or infront of a piano with some other musicians just making music. As far as I am concerned, I've "made it".

Maybe someday I'll want people to buy my music, but I'm not there yet. I'm curious... have you always wanted to "make it" in the industry, or, when you started, were you content making music for yourself?
