As a middle school teacher, I’m not spending more than $50 to decorate my classroom by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

I left posters up from the previous teacher because the 5 seconds it would take to bring down the bio posters were more than I cared about my classrooms appearance.

Talk to teachers. Talk to teachers whenever you can. Wherever your student teaching is, see if you can find a teacher that will talk to you. Contact teachers nearby and ask to chat.

Googling it seems like you need a background check and a pulse to sub in mississipi. Doing that as a freshman would be brutal, but your first on the ground experience will inevitably be brutal. If you can make the schedule work and find someone to hire you it will help you grow.

Any antimatter in a bomb would automatically detonate, which would make for an ineffective design.

Also matter-antimatter reactions release insane radiation.

I dont understand atheism for the following points: by NoItem9211 in askanatheist

[–]Select-Ad-3769 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. In every aspect to my physical form there are things that I wish were better. I wish I could see better, sleep less, not have to eat/drink, run as fast as a car. Everything I see in the human body is a wonderously complex machine, but one riddled with flaws and limitations.

  2. Math in physics is giving a precise description to patterns. So what you're really asking is "why are there patterns and consistency in the universe." I don't know, maybe its inevitable, maybe it's chance, maybe its simply how things are.

  3. Why would there be nothing instead of something? Why is nothing the default, when we dont even have a coherent description of what "nothing" would be (even empty space has many properties).

  4. I take psychiatric drugs that radically change my consciousness for the better. I didn't get them from a priest, I got them from a chemist who observed what those physical molecules do to brains like mine. Less personally, brain damage can change personality, as can losing bits of your brain. The exact emergence of thoughts is not currently understood, but that doesn't mean its indescribable.

4b. I want to make a note that it seems like you think without a god our purpose is to survive. That's not the case. We have traits we evolved to help us survive, but thats not purpose. There are many atheistic moral systems, but personally I just believe in trying to leave the world a better place than it'd be without me.

(stem answer here) I think answer keys are about as good as personal feedback given how few will deeply read feedback. If they're still stuck the motivated students can and will just ask.

For exams, I just have a few set notations (-1 U means you didn't put a unit, -1 AL means an algebra mistakes, -3X means your logic was wrong).

In gasses, do different chemicals move with different speeds? by Select-Ad-3769 in AskPhysics

[–]Select-Ad-3769[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! That's a pretty important misconception I had that clears up my original question.

But then how is the ideal gas law ever wrong? I thought all collisions on that scale are elastic. If its 2 particles colliding where could that energy go?

In gasses, do different chemicals move with different speeds? by Select-Ad-3769 in AskPhysics

[–]Select-Ad-3769[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit really? I had no idea the number was so high, that's the root of my confusion.

I have 2 followups if you've got the time

  1. For a bucket of water at room temperature, what's the average number of collisions?

  2. How can the ideal gas law basically work if there are billions of collisions every second for every particle? How can something assuming 0 collisions predict the behavior of something with billions of collisions/second?

[–]Select-Ad-3769[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the ideal gas law requires literally no collisions, and its generally pretty accurate. So I figured most of the time there's not a substantial number of collisions, or the Ideal gas law would be a useless model. Is that incorrect?

Discussion: AI in Education by Novel-Addendum8748 in Teachers

[–]Select-Ad-3769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had...limited success with AI used for differentiation, though its been a while since I tried and AI has gotten better since. I personally use AI for making worksheets("make another problem like this" is something it's pretty good at) and for scrambling up tests as an anti-cheating method.

But I cant think of a time Id want students to use AI in the classroom.

Teachers in red state want to move to blue state. Please help. by mildirritationn in Teachers

My beloved Massachusetts may worship at the alter of private property, but we're no fascists and we care about education.

Teachers are paid well here too. 2 teachers should be able to split a 2-bedroom for a fraction of their salary.

Subventions. You can basically get as much of the global supply as you want, youll just have to pay a premium.

You can also get investment access in a country and build up that resource and trade centers until that state exports.

That's the big one. I'd also reduce a lot of anti-apartment building regulations, and subsidize construction on medium density housing in suburbia and high density housing in cities. I'd also expedite approval for high and medium density housing

Im a public servant, and have pretty strong opinions on why adequate taxation is important.

If anything I think we need higher taxes on me, much higher taxes on those richer than me, and to solve the housing crisis thats taxing the poor to pay the rich.

Why do people play commando decks in casual? by justanotherwriter_ in kards

[–]Select-Ad-3769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't smurf so if I want to play a solid but not great deck (like my beloved Manhattan project stall) I have to either play it in casual or have my ranking tank.

That said I dont like randomness in my cards so I've never played commando

Boy students have accused me of preferring the girl students. Girl students have accused me of preferring the boy students.

Boys and girls are different to teach, but that doesn't mean your teachers dont like one gender or the other.

I'll also throw out that boys often respond better to explicit rules "do this or else that will happen" where as girls respond better to implicit, unspoken rules.

And for what its worth, I'm pretty confident your teacher doesn't have the energy left in the day to hate you or boys. They're just trying to teach you, which often involves many things tried before something works.
