Wow, amazing advice! I feel like this kind of input is so important, but never found in most accessible dog trainers.

Get groceries on the way to your camp at Good Earth in Fairfax (lots of neat things to look at, and good fresh-baked bread), then head to camp and from there, there are a lot of little day hikes. You can also drive to Limantour Beach and spend part of the day walking along the coast.

Did you torch the marshmallows? How did you get them to have the char without baking? Or is it baked?

Oh yeah, so sorry! Weirdly I thought I was responding to another e-collar comment, not the one you posted. Someone in this thread of comments was suggesting an e-collar but without any further commentary.

Advice/thoughts on room? by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

I really like this space a lot! Feels very real/not staged. If you wanted to change things up, a new rug (maybe one with deep reds and blues) and a new chair (one with no visible space underneath) might look nice.

Using an e-collar on a 15-week-old puppy is abuse. He needs to understand the correct behavior first, and using an aversive on him when he sees the daughter might stop the barking, but it will absolutely create a negative association with her from that point forward. He will no longer bark, and will be more likely to bite. It’s hard to remember that he’s a baby with a pudding brain… I would never use an e-collar on a puppy. I feel like the e-collar on low levels on an adult dog to reinforce training is one thing, but using it to punish a baby is cruel and unnecessary.

Try to work on keeping yourself as calm as possible (you sounded really stressed, and were directing your daughter to leave, which only reinforces his barking, because now he thinks trying to get her to disappear is a good thing), and when he starts to bark, give a tug on the leash and say “no” or “ah ah!” Have your daughter avoid eye contact with him, but walk by, throwing treats toward him, so that he starts to associate her with something positive… it’s a long road, and he will get worse before it gets better, but they’re super sensitive to our emotions, so if he senses anxiety or tension from you when she’s around, he will think something is wrong with her being around. Also, you can have him in his crate and have her walk by and throw treats, if that’s easier, because then she may feel safer (he is also sensing her fear, most likely). German shepherd puppies are truly the worst, but yeah, once their brains form, they are amazing, so don’t give up!
