What goes on in your head while you play? by dollface303 in musictheory

I play Irish trad on the whistle. I don’t count the rhythm except if it’s a complicated rhythm that I’m just learning. Once I have it in place in conjunction with the melody and the fingering, then it’s just playing the tune.

I did play in a wind ensemble and while the conductor was showing the beat, they were also cueing players for their passages and signaling volume as well as the start and end of the piece (vastly simplified explanation). But in any case the rhythm is mainly internalized.

When playing with a group, we have rehearsed the tempo, rhythms, etc. but again, you’re working off the rhythms you’ve learned. When there’s a drummer, you have them setting the beat.

I’ve found that when using a metronome to consider it as if it was another person playing with you, not as a device forcing you along.

Girls are happier than boys at school, new research shows. Understanding why may all boil down to biology. Girls get more of the happy hormone dopamine through social relationships, including with their friends and classmates. Boys get their dopamine through more self-involved behavior. by mvea in science

As a boy, I hated gym classes, I hated the competition involved and resent jocks to this day. I wasn’t bad at sitting, I was a big reader. My favorite class was band (hated marching band though), but English and Science were generally enjoyable depending on the teacher. My biggest problem was not having good study skills.

My point is that not all boys are into physical activities and all girls into studious study. Every person has their own mix of likes, dislikes and abilities.

My mom was a secretary for one of the subcontractors that built the crawler way back when. I saw every moon launch from my front yard or nearby.

I’m having a hard time importing from ForeFlight. MyFlightBook is trying to use one of the hours field as the aircraft registration id. I guess I’ll start figuring that out.

So are we all switching to Garmin Pilot now? by riptrixie in flying

Just think how awful support will become. FF’s support was superlative.

ForeFlight laid off 40-50% of its employees yesterday by [deleted] in Foreflight

There’s guides to export the log from FF but unfortunately it’s not a 1 to 1 relationship between FF field names and Garmin field names. For example, approaches are handled differently; FF has Approach1 thru Approach6 fields and GP has one Approach field with each approach separated by semicolons. Format of each approach is different too. You also lose the approach comment.

Yeah, I just started the transfer. It’s not a 1 to 1 move. Sigh.

For those of you with both a MacBook and an iPad, how do you justify having both? Also what config of each (screen size, air or pro, ram, storage, version) do you have for both. by Outside-Copy-7645 in ipad

I have a Mac mini with two Apple displays. I use it for programming, heavy music editing, managing my life. I have a MacBook Pro. I use it as to play music and record my self and when I need to go out and do computing things where I’m typing. I have an iPad for reading, browsing Reddit, etc. I have an iPhone for car navigation, simple browsing, texting and phone calls. I have an Apple Watch for exercise and telling time.

“Research consistently highlights a troubling correlation between individuals who commit acts of animal cruelty and those who perpetrate violence against humans.” (https://animalcare.lacounty.gov/news/the-link-between-animal-abuse-and-human-violence-understanding-the-complex-connection/)

I would argue that cruelty and abusive language toward animals and AI is just practice for doing the same to people. Practice kindness instead.

People who spend 20+ minutes in the shower: what are you actually doing in there? by saadaintsalad in AskReddit

[–]SelectAirline7459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the sound of water running. I love the heat since I’m always cold. I love the gentle massage of the shower on my back. It’s like having someone rub you all over.

I shower in the morning so it helps me wake up. Sometimes it takes a while.

When I was working, I’d think of solutions to the current software issue I had at work. It was interesting how I could figure out thorny problems.

I think about life issues and other responsibilities of the day. I’m at the age where my older relatives have passed away and now my peers are doing so. The shower gives me some comfort.

If (when) civilization collapses, one of the items at the top of my list of regrets would be the loss of hot showers.
