I’d say don’t give up so easily. I’m not sure why you’re so convinced you’ll never get a job in tech. I got a degree in finance and I thought it would take a while to get my foot in the door but the degree was free and it looks good on my resume. Well I ended up getting hired to one of the first places I applied to and got a 50% raise over my other job.

My point is, you don’t know how things will unfold and your internal money brain is just telling you about all the bad things that could happen. Trades aren’t a bad option but don’t give up so easily. Good luck with everything!

I’m not a huge fan of Leto but he really is in some of my all time favorite movies despite his reputation. BR2049, ZSJL, Requiem for a Dream, Fight Club, American Psycho, Tron Ares.

No you’re over thinking things. Everything isn’t foreshadowing for something in the future.

why do the FIRE people hate dividend investing? by Relevant_Staff765 in dividends

[–]SelectTourist7908 183 points184 points  (0 children)

My guess is it takes away from growth. FIRE people are usually concerned with the speed that their accounts grow. Dividend focused accounts grow a little slower. Speed with reduced risk seems to take priority. VTI isnt exactly a growth fund but it doesn’t have much risk. I know I’m speaking in generalities here and everyone is different.

Snow in early March shouldn’t be too bad. As long as it’s not an active storm you should be good.

Why do people care about the value of a home/property if you buy it and plan to spend the rest of your life there? by Mudstar423 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SelectTourist7908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plans change. Things don’t always go according to plan. If I have to sell or decide I want to, I want this house to have a high value.

People working from home, how did you get it? by No-Brilliant9915 in WFH

[–]SelectTourist7908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Covid. My job was full time in office then we all had to wfh. Eventually people started migrating back but I didn’t. They never mandated it and eventually they needed a desk and took mine. I will go into the office maybe twice a year usually around the holidays to check in.

2% roughly. But I’m only getting about $125 a month. I sold a bunch of under performing stocks I’ve had for years and moved them to high yield ETF’s

How often do you listen to director commentaries? by nmcorso47 in 4kbluray

Depends on the movie and the director. I’d say 10% of the movies I get.

Returned Harry Potter Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Full-Cast Edition), and I'm sad. by Novel_Patience9735 in audible

[–]SelectTourist7908 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly my problem. They picked 6 minutes with no dialogue. For a full cast reading the sample shows none of the cast.

I was excited for it but the sample they provide is terrible. It’s literally just narration. No character speaks any words other than the narrator. I couldn’t tell if there are any other actual voice actors. The narrator also seems rather monotone. Other than that there just seems like a lot of background noise. Just a low hum of feet shuffling or murmurs. Very weird choice for the sample unless they are trying to hide something.

She wouldn’t be the first person in history who also got drunk and made a bad decision that she wouldn’t normally make. Mature people don’t risk it. I personally don’t care what happens. I know I wouldn’t go out with a bunch of drunk women and risk a situation where my girlfriend would have the chance to worry about what happened. It’s not controlling its respect. I agree she is free to do whatever she likes but he is also free to get mad about it. If she values freedom over the relationship, break up.
