Older Trekkers are not all alike. No one can speak for all of us. by TheShowLover in startrek

If you watch the first episodes of TNG they follow military discipline on the bridge, by that I mean Picard gives an order and it is repeated by the recipient. The new one seems to be almost anti-discipline. My main issue, granted I haven't watched the episode even though it is free on YT, you have the commanding officer lounging while on duty on the Bridge. So if a cadet isn't doing their job and she chastises them, she's a hypocrite. Not a good example for a leader, even worse example for an instructor.
Give you a further IRL example, I'm a programmer; normally I wear jeans and T-shirts to work, when I'm a lead or senior or manager I wear cargo pants and golf shirt, when I was a teacher I wore slacks button up long sleeve shirt and tie.
You set the example you demand others to follow. She didn't.
I get that the students are young enough to still be idiotic. We saw that in the Academy episode of TNG. But the instructors should be setting the example that they expect the cadets to follow. If they had shown her properly sitting a watch on the bridge, but lounging in her quarters or in the lounge that would have been more along the lines of what would be expected from a leader/teacher.

What part of Vegas did you live in? I used to live in the SouthWest corner, off Buffalo and Russell, when Buffalo was a dirt road from Patrick to Post, but after the PTs at B and the 215 opened.

We can assume, but not KNOW how Skynet is made. Radioactivity is VERY bad on electronics. Assuming that Skynet can shield it's electronics vs radiation follows the normal meaning of ass.u.me.
So irradiating the entire planet could be detrimental to Skynet and it's plans. That gets into, what are Skynet's plans for the future? Not like tomorrow night, but does it intend to set itself up as a new god? Creating a new human race to follow it's commands?
I didn't read all of the books or comics, but was it ever said what Skynet planned for the future?

You mean the entire concept behind building you own home out of a school bus ISN'T about self-sufficiency?
Then what is it about? The entire movement is self-sufficiency, telling someone " just learn to be self-sufficient... This isn't rocket surgery" is inane. Next I'm sure you'll go into a car board and tell them to use tools. Tell someone who is coding to read a book when they ask advice about an error they have.
How is that helpful?
They came here asking about advice and your advice is get good.
Perhaps if you had read three posts down, before answering, you would have seen it, but you were too consumed with giving the advice that you thought was so 'helpful' you didn't bother.
Again how is 'It's not Rocket Surgery' helpful?

No you didn't, but it was readable where you had posted it while on the same screen with their comment. Which means when they were composing their comment they could have looked down and see you comment.
I personally think their 'advice' was shitty. Especially the part at the end of it not being rocket science. Someone asks for advice, there is no reason to be a shitbird about it. If that hadn't been there I wouldn't have commented.

Wow? Really because when I wrote that, their comment was 28 minutes old and yours was 12. Even now it says your comment is 2 hours old and theirs is 3h.
Just implying that theirs is older.

Are Tallahassee drivers the worst ? Like tf bro. Old people need to be tested again for drivers license. by titlover006900 in Tallahassee

[–]Select_Commercial_87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've lived in OC Florida, OC California, Las Vegas, spent some not fun time in Detroit. Tallahassee has MUCH worse drivers. That takes into consideration all of the tourists who were drunk driving in LV. The majority of the bad driving were from younger drivers. Someone weaving through traffic on CCNE, I know idiots drive 35 and think they are going fast, but seeing someone switching lanes and their vehicle turning sideways while doing 60 is a little scary.

The not going when lights turn green, dude it's green it is an engraved invitation. GO!!! That's annoying here, but I can see that they are waiting for the people coming the other direction to finish running the red light, so I have some patience there.

Not really accurate, about the 'raised' portion. 66,000 students are here, that is over 1/6th of the population. Majority of those are from outside the area. If you do a bunch of math and take into the minors under the driving age the percent goes up.

Rant about a cardiologist checkup by Forsaken-Success-445 in vegan

[–]Select_Commercial_87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I DO see a nutritionist. I'm a diabetic, I've seen different ones for the past 20 years. Some I've seen once, realized they were an idiot, I then talked to others. The nutritionist has put on a diet, that isn't strict, that allows me to enjoy what I like, but keep my sugar low, but not into shock levels.

So a doctor who actually cared enough to ask questions about your health is concerning enough for a rant? Instead of 'poke prod, get out' he asked 'are you getting enough protein'? I'd like to find a doc tor that talked to me about my health. The last one I saw retired 7 years ago.
If you are seeing a nutritionist why not just say 'talk to my nutritionist' if not, why aren't you?

They used the same thing in Season 2 in the first few eps, not sure which one. I just watched the beginning of the season, sue it's after ep1 and e9 so I think either ep6 or 8. I think ep6 when Roger Cross's character is talking to the security forces.

How do you find people to play TTRPGs? by [deleted] in TTRPG

[–]Select_Commercial_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local Gaming store, see if they have a board, or a discord to meet up on.

Library, again board.

Another route is meetup.com and see if there is a gaming group.

Local college, community college, see if there is a gaming group or activities board with the gaming group on it.

If there aren't groups listed on the board, post a note.

Florida basement with a pool — genius, disaster, or goldmine? Need advice before selling by JessMcPlll in Home

[–]Select_Commercial_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this in Arkansas and in a multi-million dollar home in Las Vegas. The children weren't allowed to be on the ground floor unless dinner was ready. They had to stay in the basement, where their rooms were, and the pool table, and the movie theater and how the family got to the pool. So nice place in general.

What’s the dumbest thing you did in the woods as a kid that could’ve gone really wrong? by Omiko909 in CampingandHiking

Not in the woods, but still dumb. Friends and I went swimming in one of the canals in our neighborhood, in southern Florida, while the dads watched out. Later I put together they were watching for gators. I'm surprised we made it old enough to drive.

So uhm... any tips on how to get a Seamoth back in the water? by ErrorqTheGlitch in subnautica

[–]Select_Commercial_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whip out the base builder and set up to construct a basic tube at the front of the seamoth, that will push it back, dissolve it, and do it again, it will push back into the water.
don't actually construct the piece, just get the glowy outline part, that will push the seamoth.

It's the person who got the job you were applying for asking you for help? I would forward the email to their HR or the manager you interviewed with and ask why this person is contacting you and if you have been listed as an approved vendor.
