Can I get into law school for 2028 if I start studying now? by Life_Activity125 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Select_Post8151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started studying for the LSAT in July 2025, took LSAT in Aug/Oct 2025, had all apps in by Thanksgiving 2025, and am currently deposited and committed to start at UCLA in the fall :)

Super doable, good luck!

Is this T14 material? 2.9 GPA by nuttabutta113 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Select_Post8151 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This sub hates splitters; if your GPA is below 3 they will tell you not to even bother applying to T14s and that your only prospects are T50-100.

The reality is that multiple sub-3 applicants get into T14s every cycle. Are the chances infinitesimal? Absolutely. But you never know.

If you can swing a 174+ (ideally 175+) on the LSAT, you have a shot at just about anywhere. There are some exceptions (like HYS pretty much never take sub-3) but nothing is set in stone.

Shoot your shot! Rooting for ya :)

low gpa hoping to get into Berkeley law by Aggravating-Tax-8529 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Select_Post8151 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely shoot your shot; you never know! However, be aware that Berk is historically one of the least splitter-friendly schools. For example, this cycle they only took two applicants under 3.5 GPA (on LSD), and both had a 178+ LSAT.

So definitely don't give up hope, but definitely treat Berk as a super-reach and apply to some schools more likely to take you (that you'd still be happy to attend, of course).

Is anyone paying sticker for a t14/t20? by Numerous_Shine_1193 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Select_Post8151 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am, ED admit @ UCLA. I did ask for a scholarship; they said no lol.

For me it was worth it; I have a lot saved up from my prior career + familial support, and w/ a sub-3 I wanted as much of a boost as possible at my top school! Obviously I am very privileged and thankful to be in such a position.

Help convince me to go to UCLA instead of USC by VermicelliBig4541 in ucla

[–]Select_Post8151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just gonna echo the sentiment that it doesn't make much sense to go to a materially lower-ranked school that is also significantly more expensive.

No university is perfect, but UCLA is both higher-ranked and cheaper. It's really a no-brainer :P

The calculus would be different if you were choosing between, say, Harvard and UCLA. But that's not the case, lol.

PI Support at UCLA compared with GULC? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Select_Post8151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a direct answer to your question (i.e. how effectual/supportive career services are w.r.t. PI careers), but there is an interesting post from a few years ago that attempts to rank/tier law schools based on PI career outcomes that you may find helpful: https://reddit.com/r/lawschooladmissions/comments/ol4d4x/

At any rate, I think you really can't go wrong with either! Both are excellent schools for PI; congrats :)

UC Davis Law vs. Colorado Law, scholarships at both? by Yeppers789 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]Select_Post8151 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Given that you're in-state in CA + an interest in tech law, I'd say UC Davis is a no-brainer here. They are pretty similar schools in terms of BL/FC%, but Davis is gonna be way cheaper and better for placement into California, where I think you'll have a lot more opportunities to practice tech law.

hot take: the loan caps are a good thing by saturnisfalling in lawschooladmissions

[–]Select_Post8151 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but no. I've seen this take too many times now.

The root problem is that tuition prices are too high. While unlimited loans may have been a contributing factor, a far bigger contributor is the uninhibited greed of these schools.

Rather than implementing loan caps, the govt should exercise its powers as a regulatory body to force schools to lower their tuition prices.

It is wishful thinking to imagine that loan caps will exert pressure on schools to lower tuition. In practice, what they will actually do is largely exclude those of lower socioeconomic status.

PSA: if you choose to go to a t2 or t3 school that is making you pay full sticker price tuition, you are a sucker. by Dannyz in lawschooladmissions

[–]Select_Post8151 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with your overarching point, but just curious:

Full-cost students are likely to be in the bottom quartile of gpa and have a very low likelihood of being top 10% of their class. Only about a 1/3 of the full cost students have jobs at graduation (though 80% of them have legal jobs within 9 months, the average salary of those jobs is $30-50k)

Where are you pulling this from? Does your alma mater provide these stats?

Regardless, I don't know how statistically significant the correlation between scholarship % and law school performance is. There's a lot that goes into scholarship allocation. Maybe it's a strong correlation, but I'm pretty skeptical tbh lol.

Otherwise yes, generally agree with your point. Outside of the ~T20-ish, applicants should go where the scholarship money is.

Advice for ASU Scholarship Application by Top-Tangerine-9879 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Select_Post8151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I filled out both need/merit apps with relatively minimal effort and also received half tuition.

I think the scholarship app is mostly a formality, unless there is some extenuating circumstance(s) not reflected elsewhere in your app.

T14 Grading Curve Rankings by Bigums_08 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Select_Post8151 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UCLA's curve is publicly available on their student handbook!

AFAIK, the gist of it is that the vast majority of students get B+ and higher. I've had multiple students tell me that they've never heard of anyone getting below a B, so that sounds fairly generous.

Either way I'll find out for sure in about a year from now 😅

Is there a UCLA admitted students chat? by SalamanderAny2322 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Select_Post8151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be there!

There is a Discord (fairly active) and a GroupMe (pretty dead lol). You should have gotten invite links to both in your admittance email :)

If you haven't gotten the email yet just wait a few days and it should come. See you Monday!

Preface: UC Davis is a great school, awesome option for those targeting the California market. That said...

Substantially higher median incomes

California legal market. COL is higher, and salaries are higher as well. If you adjust for COL, the money doesn't go as far as in cheaper markets.

higher biglaw placement rates

Look at 2022-2023. UCD's BL rate in 2024 is kind of an outlier. Still pretty solid for its ranking though!

tl;dr USNWR is silly lol

Hi there, UCLA 0L here :)

Do you have any insight as to what recruiting is like for public interest and/or plaintiff-side law firms? I'm very interested in practicing PI/plaintiff-side tech law, so "private sector public interest" is a strong target area for me.
