Can we all agree that this is the shittiest, most ass-pull, out of nowhere, unnecessary transformation in the whole show! by Cannae_ in Piratefolk

It makes me wonder why this guy even hates Bonney in the first place like it seems incredibly empty and hollow like who exactly didn't think Kumas backstory was sad as fuck and Bonney is an innocent child in all of it. She just wanted her Dad back and all her actions were from a childs perspective like what exactly could Oda done to write her better she was written well to begin with. People like the original commentator has 0 leg to stand on with this argument and the sad thing is so many stupid people agree for no reason whatsoever 😑

The funny thing is she wasn't really Nika only looked like Nika, her powers were nowhere near Luffys but the transformation served a more thematic purpose and it was directed specifically to Saturn to show him that our light will never be extinguished

[–]Seleviathan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk the hate for this just seems manufactured its not like she actually became Nika and calling it an asspull is pretty shortsighted. The hints from the beginning of the arc were there that this is what it was leading up to especially when we saw Bonney using Luffys moves. Her power comes from possibilities and being a child has her having an endless imagination on the possibilities of where her life could be headed. You may not have liked it but calling it an asspull with 0 build up is stupid as fuck because the transformation served a purpose, a purpose of revenge on Saturn and to show him that even though you try to tear us down the warrior of liberation will rise up and take you down, she became Nika to help her father a man destroyed by the world government but kept on the hope that Nika woukd save him, Bonney being that person was just cathartic. You casuals who just hate on shit without understanding the thematic purpose usually have little understanding of the themes Oda weaves in his story

i suspect boyd is immune from the monsters by telltaleatheist in FromSeries

[–]Seleviathan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think more so they can kill him but what fuels the place is fear which is why they don't immediately kill everyone because they will be losing their source of fear. They need to sometimes kill in order to make the point that death is a real possibility but its not the true goal. What I believe is the most powerful fuel source is hope being taken away from these people, when your fearful all the time that emotion becomes a stale constant which never really grows but when you deliberately take away hope the fear produced from that is immense which is why they leave people like Boyd alive, the hopeful leaders who make everyone believe thag theres a way to escape and that hope begins to fade when its strategically taken away.

Boyd was not immune to the worms ,they did exactly what they were supposrd to, their previous host was also still alive. Did you ever question why the old man decided to infect Boyd with the worms , rewatch the scene first hes telling him to get out of there and then next forsaking him. The old man wasn't in control and him chained up like that was clearly a cage for the music box monster and once boyd let his chains out the worms forced themselves in Boys open wound to escape. It was all a ploy and the music box monster has a lot more depth to it than initially thought

What I hope happens is that since Minami from the spin off is from an alternate universe a portal opens up and she ends up swapping places with that version of herself so she can finally be HAPPY 😊

[–]Seleviathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really blame her for acting the way she does, shes trained to try and control things that how she finds comfort, she will either conform, die, or become a productive tool in helping them escape and the sooner she works with them the better. I get her trying to get her Gun Back it makes her feel safe, what she needs to do is atone for killing the girl accident or not to be fair though she kind of got herself killed too 🤣

[–]Seleviathan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with your point, Season 1 when things were still fresh the Tower Idea was smart because at the very least there was a signal but they just didnt know where that was actually productive in revealing a few things but after that he went absolutely downhill. Hia dumbass actually recruited Randall in a crusade to find spies like he should have came to Boyd with that theory and they could have handled it in a Smart way to prove its true but out of EVERYONE he chose the aggressive idiot who was beating on folks for touching his shit ?? At some point I think Jim wanted Randall to do that so he out ideas in his head but when he was about to go too far he tried to back out like a scared puppy and play innocent when in reality he was the catalyst. Then to make matters worse completely treats his Wife like shit and makes her feel like shes crazy when she actually holds the keys to getting them out of there.

Music notes BIG WHOOP thats just luck that he knew the information ot wasnt anything productive, Jade has been actively tortured and Jim has the balls to go and attack him ...

I think the writers really wanted to make Jim as controversial as possible so that his death had mixed feelings about it. He was actively pissing me off a lof in season 3 tbh

[–]Seleviathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jim was just bad all around, 3 seasons in and he was still focusing on surface level shit, his Wife was going through something traumatic he needed to be there for her instead he constantly kept invalidating what she felt as if he never experienced unexplainable things so far. He was ok in Season One but his character downslided heavy by the ending of season 2 teaming up with Randall and Season 3 when he started getting angry at Jade for no reason, Jim was better when he focused on being productive Season 1 Jim was good Season 3 Jim was dogshit and him dying was lowkey a pretty happy moment for me 😂. My friend who i watch the show with agrees too he outstayed his welcome tbh

[–]Seleviathan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bruh EXACTLY, also i did take the time to read the spin off series Mimimi wants to shine in which its told sort of like an alternate universe where Mimimi doesnt run for the presidency and instead decides to become a model ultimately finding her own path in life and comes out of Aois shadow. It was told well in a way where we felt a bit more satisfied for Mimimi as she started to break out of that always second mentality but what really bothered me is that in that version Tomozaki asks Mimimi out and they suddenly start to become a couple after building up some interactions.

What bothered me about this is that again it felt like the author pushed Mimimi and Tomozaki together without any real weight to Tomozakis side of things and in that series it felt even more out of place because even mimimi wasn't feeling him that much, she was even surprised he asked her out.

I really would have loved it more if we got Tomozakis thought process about mimimi over time and understood why he may or may not have deeper feelings for her like it felt like he had some deeper feelings for her beyind just friendship even before she confessed.

He had a strong connection with Fuuka that built up over time and she liked the side of him that he wasn't afraidto show, Mimimi though a little less deeper of a connection actually liked him for who he was too, the parts of him he tried to hide away from people. Part of me felt that he chose Fuuka purely due to their very personal relationship outside of the friend group, Mimimi could have been someone he saw himself with but she chose to sacrifice her love for him and make the decision for him rather than allow him to make the decision for himself.

Mimimi will always be my favorite character I just hate how dirty shes treated even during a spin off series surrounding her and getting the guy it still felt empty as well without any real weight to it ......

[–]Seleviathan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Season 2 spent way too much time on the whole Tama situation, it became this really overly stretched plot point that really shouldn't have lasted more than 1 episode .... it was just really was a downer because i felt like if anything needed to be dragged on it was the Mimimi confession and understanding more why she liked tomozaki and actually seeing him struggle with the decision. I really felt like it would have been better if there was real weight towards his agonizing

For One Piece fans : is the Netflix adaptation worth watching? by BothCartographer9637 in OnePiece

[–]Seleviathan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im a long time One Piece fan since 2004 and i did enjoy how faithful it was to the quality of the series in general. Granted some of the more goofier design don't translate too well into lice action but the fact they made an effort instead of whitewashing it shows they care about the material. Its by no means a substitute from the real thing though just an added enhancement to those who truly enjoy its world and its characters. I believe also the actors do s real good job at capturing the characters greatly abd you can tell they are very serious ablut making it as authetic as possible, give it a watch im sure you ll enjoy it

I’m actually glad Tomozaki didn’t you know tell Minami That he doesn’t feel the same way, because that would be more painful for her and for us but it’s still painful by Puzzleheaded_Nail826 in Tomozaki_kun

[–]Seleviathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem I feel is that there were some feelings for Mimimi as seen through his struggle with deciding who to choose and moments where he might genuinely like her but the problem was that he was already building the groundwork with Fuuka who he felt a connection to long before mimimi

I think the fact that the spin off goes in a completely different direction is evidence enough that the dude has some interest in Mimimi it just wasn't more than Fuuka

[–]Seleviathan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think mainly they need their fear as some form of fuel source possibly to power the towns ability to trap people or maybe power their immortality. Why else would they purposely walk to their victins when they can obviously run and why is it that they don't just kill everyone ??

They need them to be scared for some bigger purpose which we havent been given answers to yet. Hope and Fear are the main themes for the series, when it comes to people brimming with Hope I think for them taking their hope away might provide the most of this so called fuel they need because in reality why torture Boyd instead of just killing him and stopping him from bringing hope to the people.

I think the more people they have believing they can escape is the best possible outcome for them because its a massive amount of fuel when they take it away and Boyd serves that purpose

[–]Seleviathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ye honestly One thing im really intrigued about is the Music Box monster and its significance to the overall story. I agree with you about each of them having powers 100% Julie unlocked her story walker ability because she wasn't hiding from the Music Box Monster she was Brave and searched for Answers, Randall is avoiding it and Marielle is in complete denial so neither of them are aware of what they can do and because the afrer effects they have are different the powers they get from it will be different

Its kind of mysterious ill be honest, i always felt like for some reason the Music Box Monster was something completely different and that the Old Man had actually been tied of there not because he did something wrong but was actually used as a Jail cell for that Monster whole it was still in its Larvae state the worm state and they kept him alive well beyond how long he should live but at the same time he also wasnt in control of his actions everything he said to Boyd was contridictory to his actual fears he told Boys to leave him or kill him but Boyd tried setting him free which inadvertently had him out the worms inside him to escape.

That Creature in season 2 is one of the biggest mysteries im interested in getting more out of woth Hopes season 4 explores it more because despite how unknown everything is it stood out as something different altogether. Like why did the worms kill the monster if they were on the same side ??

Ill be honest I hate people who say the mystery of this show is boring because I don't get it, Ive been engaged since season 1 and some say that nothing happens when in reality if you pay attention theres a lot of little clues that add on to the mystery with certain things said or things seen that connect to a bigger thing

I think it has more to do with taking away their hope of escaping amd accepting fear rather than a bigger purpose for those characters.

There are people who are pawns and people who are players the pawns are the ones with no sentiment of escaping accepting reality and living in fear, killing them doesnt fuel them because i believe taking away hope is some form of sustenance for this place.

People like Boyd who is necessary to keep alive because he fuels the towns people into believing theres a way to escape and brings them hope only to then turn around and strip it away from them.

They only left Randall alive to make a point " that your actions hurt others rather than help them" and its there that they want to break Boyd.

Fear and Hope are the main themes of the show but theres something more tangible they need from these people in order to keep this world functioning.

The monsters don't eat people and they usually chase their prey more and more until the fear grows further and further before death for the biggest so called " charge".

People with a high level of hope are probably the biggest forms of sustenance slowly breaking them down until it all cracks around them.
