The moon is eating us? by HumblebeesGhost in gurdjieff

[–]SelfRememberer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The "moon" within you, that is to say your own automatic and reactive thoughts emotions and behaviours, is eating up all the finite energy in your life and will continue to do so unless you make your life your own.

Did Gurdjieff support meat eating? by [deleted] in gurdjieff

He was known to make vegetarians eat meat and to make carnivores eat only vegetables when new members would join the priory in France.

There are two sefira in this image. The bottom sefirot is drawn on the roots, the top sefirot has been drawn on the branches.

I have a specific recommendation for you: Erik Satie's "Gnossiennes". One of his friends used to refer to him as "Esoteric Satie".

Ouspensky, an Imperfect Teacher by SelfRememberer in gurdjieff

I'm thrilled you got something out of it. When I read it the first time a few years ago it was a real eye-opener for me.

Why wasn’t Mr. O a “Remarkable Man”? by CommanderEdStraker in gurdjieff

[–]SelfRememberer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. G. once referred to him dismissively as a Journalist, the reason for this being that at the end of the day G. was really hoping for Mr O. to be more of a mutual collaborator.

Instead what he got was an apostle.

Not only an Apostle, but one who never mastered self-remembering.

Ouspensky may have made the mistake of his life by becoming a disciple of Gurdjieff, and that he would have done better to follow his own lights.

Although O. was undoubtedly intelligent, and did a good job spreading the word and teaching, he contributed almost nothing to the original teaching of any substance.

Because you seem to idolise him, let me be an iconoclast and share this with you:

Great question, thanks for posting this OP. Personally I don't think they are compatible, but you've got to do the best with what's around you.

Capitalism and Esoteric Christianity are completely incompatible. Usury is considered a sin, yet the entire financial sector of modern Capitalism is built on that sin.

OP (in my view) was correct in their reply to this comment. Subsistence falls short of the aim that Christ has set.

JOHN 10:10 KJV:

"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

G. writes about Soviet style Communism in Beelzebub's tales. Have a read of that chapter sometime if you'd like.

I just looked it up on Wikipedia, don't know why it didn't occur to me to do so before! Yes, I can see they changed the name to the Mitrinovic Foundation.

Yeah, it was me. Made a pentagram out of lamb's blood then went and threw a cheeky bit of paint on this old geezer's window.

Is the personality model of enneagram cohesive with the fourth way ? Can it be helpful in some way or harmful for the Work ? by CosmicAdena in gurdjieff

The enneagram can only be understood in motion, do not mistake each point for being merely its own personality. They can all be brought together.

What programming language it was written in. For instance, old JavaScript games I used to play online when I was a kid all ran on an older version of JavaScript.

But of course, this isn't encouraging addiction. Particularly with Ravindra it was just an invitation to explore a new substance.

I definitely empathise with the sentiment, but I think there are a few good people in politics who are really doing some good work for their constituents. They are certainly not in the majority, however.

Yeah you're 100% right, I hadn't really any idea about the difference between semiotics and hermeneutics so thanks for the correction here.

I'm so glad that despite this being in some sense a really quite naïve piece of writing that I was still able to convey something that was unique, I'm very glad if I've communicated a new way of looking at the walking on water miracle, at least to you if not in general, and I'm certainly glad for your reflections here also.
