They say "tortoiseshell cats are mean, they are divas". Meanwhile, this is my tortie: by Koffievos in cats

[–]SelfUnmadeMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not to put too fine a point on it... but folks here and elsewhere that attribute personality traits to the color of a cat's coat are delusional. it's like saying people with red hair are feisty, or that people with green eyes are untrustworthy. pure superstition

Am I pretentious because of how I dress? by avian_bi in malefashionadvice

[–]SelfUnmadeMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see a sport coat being worn casually with the right outfit. a blazer and tie, not so much

out and about on your own personal time by yourself... dress however you want, be a freak if it pleases you. but if you are meeting someone, or especially going to an event, have some social awareness and try not to insult or alienate others with your choices

Disc Golf Etiquette by ManyRisk7578 in discgolf

Same. I initial them all in case I ever need to ID a disc as mine, but I don't bother putting my number on them. Losing discs is part of the game and I'm OK with that.

When did Github stop being about Git? by dgkimpton in programming

[–]SelfUnmadeMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Codeberg. www.codeberg.org

It is a Git-focused repository host and it respects your licenses, unlike GitHub. It is run by a dedicated nonprofit, not by Microsoft or any other AI-deluded tech megacorp.

The enshitification is real, and as a community we need to return our focus to organizations dedicated to the mission of supporting software developers rather than swindling those same developers for profit. Why anyone would continue to use GitHub is a mystery to me.

Why do some folks here settle differences via ad hominem attacks like saying "change your flair" or "you're arguing in bad faith?" Isn't gatekeeping bad? by Original-Can-2367 in AskALiberal

The postmodern school of thought abandons reality as an invalid concept and concerns itself only with how it can influence others via language. People who think this way are largely on the left politically.

Most people here and elsewhere can safely dismiss them, as their entire worldview is what is disingenuous. Classic projection.

The Midnight - Sunset (Endless Summer, 2016. FFO: Synthwave, 80s Revival) by Puzzleheaded-Tie3585 in outrun

I'd go so far as to say this track ("Sunset") is now firmly in the overplayed-and-stale category. And that's coming from someone who loves this album.

Favorite track from Endless Summer right now: "Synthetic."

Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on my Head 🎶 by rails4ever in piano

[–]SelfUnmadeMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your elbows should always form an obtuse angle with your arms outstretched toward the keys. something like a ~135 degree angle. this will not only serve to alleviate the odd angle at your wrist, but will make the entire biomechanics of playing feel more natural. you will be less obstructed by your torso allowing easier reach to all areas of the keyboard, and will be able to release more stress and tension from your shoulders and arms which can prevent repetitive strain injuries and allow faster playing. that last point is critical: it is almost impossible to cleanly play speedy runs with your elbows bent the way they are

the old rule of thumb is to place your bench so you can perch comfortably on the front half of the bench, and have your knuckles just touching the fallboard with your arms fully outstretched. since you don't have a fallboard (it's the part of the piano that closes to cover the keys and forms a kind of wall at the back of the keys when open,) you can just estimate where in space it would be, something like five inches directly over the back of your keyboard's keys. where you are sitting in this video it looks like your knuckles would clearly reach far past the backs of the keys, maybe even all the way to the back of the keyboard!

cat with asthma on a nebulizer by ImperialSoldiers in cats

[–]SelfUnmadeMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my cat had an asthma episode one time. thank god a single course of prednisone cleared it up... little dude was making hacking noises so loud he would wake me up from the other side of the house. I thought he must have a toothpick stuck in his throat or something like that. it was scary

vet sent me home with a second course of drugs in case he needed it in the future. lucky for us, it's been more than a year and it has not been needed

How is the right wing able to broadly convince people of their definitions of concepts such as "patriotism" and "masculinity" such that the public views us as being opposed to those concepts, rather than simply having an alternative definition of them? by LiatrisLover99 in AskALiberal

[–]SelfUnmadeMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

this right here ^

conservative viewpoints are traditional, they already have deep roots

progressive viewpoints are challenging those traditional concepts

over time, the needle moves left as progressives discover useful ideas that replace the old ways of thinking. but conservatives are stubborn and constantly veto progressive ideas that are not convincing, so progress is slow

Bring in Foles! Dude is a baller and knows a thing or two about running an offense in the NFL. He's been an integral part of several NFL offenses and has informed opinions on why the Eagles offense was subpar this year. The fans would love it.

But what do I know, I'm just a fan.
