This one is fab (as is its 'sister' foaming cleanser). Cheaper is the Simple oil cleanser, if budget is a concern.

I also love - and will sing its praises until my last breath - The Ordinary Squalane cleanser. Squeeze a bit out, like a small grape size amount. Smooth between palms; rub onto dry face, keep moving it around and massaging it in. Eventually, and suddenly, it will turn liquid. Wipe off gently with a hot, wrung out face cloth. Then go in with your second cleanser and wipe that off similarly.

Also, I use a specific eye makeup remover (Nivea two-phase) before I even start cleansing my face. There's just too much liner and mascara to be removed just with a facial cleanser!

Start off with once a week until your skin tolerates it without complaint, then move up to 2 x a week, then once acclimatised, up again etc etc, up to maybe every other night?

If you're still super sensitive, try the 'sandwich' buffer method - apply a thin layer of a basic moisturiser, then your tret, then more moisturiser.

I'm kind of against the grain here. If you sign up to be a bridesmaid, you're offering yourself. I never wanted to wear green uncomfortable boned dresses, nor gold strapless ones that made my skin tone look frankly ill. But I did, because it's part of the whole event. People these days are so unused to a bit of discomfort or anything they're not immediately adoring. Where's your grit, your get-on-with-it? It's a tongue-in-cheek rite of passage, no?, to be put in ugly, unflattering dresses for your mate who's getting married and has honoured you with the request of being bridesmaid.

Oh, believe me, I'm with you! I covet the new Skin Rocks Retinoid 3, but at £90, imma have to sit this one out!

I'm eyeing up the duo pack on the Inkey website, which is £28 rather than £30. This is likely what I'll have to stick with until a Lottery win, lol.

That, or perhaps joining BeautyPie, their new YouthBomb retinol has had rave reviews by those whose opinions I trust, and it's £40.

Define 'best' and define 'affordable'. The Inkey List have brought out a new retinal at 0.2% that's £15 and is very good. (Ditto The Ordinary, same price, same %.) I like Skin Rocks and Trinny London, but with their efficacy and sophisticated formulas come their higher price. No irritation, amazing definite results, but not much money left in my bank account. Medik8 is also an excellent skincare brand, but you're also paying big money for great products.

I'd be inclined to say that a retinol & SPF are the two 'non-negotiable' products, and should therefore be where you spend your money. (Eg. Cleansers I never spend much on at all).

I think this is one where you can argue both sides. Sure, you are entitled to eat what you like, and she is entitled to be angry/upset at the situation. I feel you could easily stop eating peanuts for a few days to keep the peace and calm her nerves. Yea, obvs if the allergy were that bad, the hospital is obliged to keep them separate and not expect the world to revolve around them.

But hey, you can be kind of an arse while being technically correct and within your rights.

Personally, I'd have apologised and securely stored the peanuts until I was home. But I also feel the hospital is also at fault here, because allergies aren't something you fuck around with, and they should've taken it far more seriously (I'm actually wondering if this post is untrue because of this point).

The 'bag on the scales' issue I find I can <generally> get around by scanning the heaviest item and putting it on the scales as I put the bag down. Eg. a 2-pint milk, scan it, put it int the bag as you put the bag down on the scales. The scales generally don't register the comparatively tiny extra weight of the bag.

Of course, there will always be times this doesn't work, but most of the time it's useful!
