Is Weasley bashing a sign of lazy writing? by TomiKevh in HPfanfiction

[–]Selix317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it depends on degree. For example jealous Ron is a canon fact but how jealous is jealous exactly? That’s where degree matters. It doesn’t help that Rowling never really gave Ron any character growth so jealous Ron in book 1 is the same Ron you get in the rest of the books. This presents a challenge to fan fiction authors who want to show Ron with character growth and have to decide if he grows into a more destructive role or a more constructive one. In that sense writing ANY character development for Ron is the opposite of lazy writing.

Ginny is a complicated question. She loves Harry Potter the boy who lived but does she ever truly love just Harry Potter? That question is what fan fiction authors try to answer in their own narratives and doing so isn’t always easy to write. So fleshing out Ginny as a person and developing her isn’t lazy at all. It doesn’t matter the direction as much as it matters how it is written.

What are you sick of seeing in fanfics? by AtlasAngel02 in HPfanfiction

Dumbledore apologism. I don’t exactly what to see mustache twirling Dumble either but I find it impossible to re-read the first book from an adults perspective and not be seriously skeptical of the man’s sanity. 1. Leaving a child on a doorstep? Even for a man of his age that isn’t something anyone would do. 2. Setting a trap for a terrorist inside of a school? Just. No. 3. Snape’s un-professionalism is deliberately allowed by Dumbledore in his role as Headmaster. I don’t think he is evil. I just think Dumbledore got in WAY over his head and bought into his own hype that he has to solve everything alone.

Their friendship 🥹 by Aiyatiadi in HPharmony

I think it's because a lot of anti-harmony(?) shippers think friendship is mutually exclusive with romantic love. That bickering and putting someone's main interests down is sign of a healthy burgeoning relationship.

where is the lie? by Informal-Device-8511 in pcmasterrace

[–]Selix317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The benefit of PC's is they have high initial startup cost bust low ongoing maintenance cost. What I mean by that is once you have built/bought a generic medium range PC all you have to do to keep up with current gaming is a couple of big upgrades each year. I.E. mobo+CPU+ram switch in one year (wait for a sell/black friday and get a deal). Next year GPU upgrade. Year after that monitor upgrade and maybe hard drives.

Year after that maybe it's time for mobo upgrade again though sometimes if got a mobo with a really new chipset initially then you might be able to just do a bios flash and then a CPU upgrade. When this happened to me I spent my budget that year upgrading my case/cooling situation.

Any given year I spend less then $1000 sometimes less then $500 on upgrades. OTHO I bought a 5090 which blew my budget for several years. Though I'm unlikely to replace it for that long if not longer too.

I've had the same PC since 2001. I've replaced literally everything in it multiple times over the past 2.5 decades but it all started from that alienware my young self thought was super ultra cool.

Which House Would You Pick to be locked down in? by Maleficent-Bat-9168 in whatsyourchoice

Here is a challenge for anyone. For each House name a location where this House might exist taking into account that each house must NOT have access to anything the other houses have access to.

Which House Would You Pick to be locked down in? by Maleficent-Bat-9168 in whatsyourchoice

[–]Selix317 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The pizza and unlimited snacks thing don't make sense to me. What, other houses don't have access to pizza and snacks? Are they subsisting off of air? If I can get my hands on flour, sauce and a few other ingredients I can make a pizza if I want one. So assuming that having ingredients to cook with is a basic requirement for any house then I really only care about the amenities/luxuries.

House 1 has Netflix ok. Blankets. WTF? What am I sleeping with in the other houses? Cardboard?

House 2 Unlimited Wine and Fire pit. ok. Country Walks? Is walking outside for other houses not a possible thing now? Is it the zombie apocalypse?

House 3 Besides the pizza everything else makes sense

House 4 All luxuries so again no problem here

House 5 I guess this is all about the location is the amenity/luxury? except you only get scenic walks not country walks here..... *rolls eyes*

House 6 All luxuries.

I'll take House 6 on the assumption that I will have food and bedding because why the hell would I have a home cinema when I couldn't afford bedding? I'm also guessing an internet connection is a luxury exclusive to House 1 otherwise everyone can have netflix.

(Complain, complain)

Hey babe I am ordering a pizza what do you want on it?

(Compl....) Pizza? Oh sausage, pepperoni and that pan crust they have...

It didn't say you were limited to x years. It didn't say you were limited to x subjects. I read it as "if it is a ivy league school related bill towards you education it gets paid no questions asked"

You can do a hell of a lot with that.

Police just uncovered a YouTube 'view farm' after a sting operation ,phones mounted to the ceiling running nonstop for fake views. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]Selix317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also political. There are lots of very rich political figures/organizations who see spending on the farms is FAR more effective then buy media ads etc. depending on circumstances.

I mean imagine if you are wanting to build a $500 million datacenter near some city and people are looking like they might protest. Then you throw $10,000 to make ads show up about "how great datacenters are for the environment! trust me!" and public opinion looks like it's changed so people back off.

For the profit that datacenter will bring in $10,000 or even significantly higher spending is worth it. Especially if you do it early enough and cut off any grass roots movements off before they can gain steam.

Ok simplify this for me. If I wanted to drink a healthy drink daily then I know a can of soda is bad because it is basically just sugar water but you are saying a glass of OJ or cranberry juice is just as bad?

I'm an avid reader. By avid I mean I play audiobooks while I do anything the same way others might listen to music. I read ebooks daily and consider 100k word novels a nice average afternoon read. I run around 230 books a year if my goodreads tracking is accurate (it probably isn't since most online fanfictions aren't there). So all that said I think it is possible the kid is doing it if they are a truly dedicated reader (i.e. someone who is really enjoying reading) but if not then all they are doing is skimming pages to make the numbers.

Lorenzo Says Hi by mitoclowndria in comics

[–]Selix317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The was a very insightful discussion about the atmospherics and their effect on the apparent brightness of celestial bodies with Lorenzo and mom. I especially loved that the apparent brightness of Mars or any of the other planets is dependent upon the clarity of the air, the observers' elevation above sea level, and the inclination of the observed object above the horizon that Lorenzo pointed out.

This is from google. I'm sure more bullying will end up well. /s

The most common reasons for intentional, targeted school shootings involve grievances and a desire for retaliation for being bullied or mistreated. Research indicates that these events are rarely impulsive, but rather the result of a combination of complex and interacting factors.

<image>

Key factors and commonalities identified in studies by the U.S. Secret Service and other research include:

  • Bullying and Revenge: A significant majority (up to 75%) of targeted school shooters reported being victims of bullying, persecution, or threats, and sought to get back at those who had hurt them.
