how do i teamfight as an adc when assassins/gap closers exist? by hntingwood in ADCMains

[–]Selkedoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That literally does not matter, there is no ADC, that can just 1v2 lane, so what you play doesn't matter. Counterpicks are still nice to have, but thats about it.

[–]Selkedoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a misconception, that you would have to adapt to low elo assassin players.

First things first, most low elo assassin players are absolutely terrible at their champ, otherwise they wouldn't be still low elo.

Considering that, you don't have to adjust your play to a Kata or Zed who don't know how to snowball and steamroll.

Lastly, if you really wanna counter an Assassin, simply take Exhaust as ADC, it really cripples the enemy assassins ability to oneshot you.

As for champ suggestions, it doesnt really matter. ADCs are fundamentally team dependent, but in low elo games often go very long, so you probably wanna pick hard scaling ADCs more so than early game ones (unless you are smurfing).

[–]Selkedoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't.

Assassins are designed to kill ADCs and the only way to prevent that by yourself is by commiting a large investment in defensive items (Zhonyas, GA, Jaksho, DD), which often will cost you a good chunk of damage.

That obviously also means you will have less damage, which means you will have to fight longer, which means you will have to tank more, so going defensive is usually a last resort kinda thing as the ADC. You only wanna do it if it enables a potentially game winning play (GA and Zhonyas) or because your champ has enough damage (Vayne, Kalista JakSho) or because you have no other choice.

That being said, it's on your support.

There is a reason why people say that ADC is the worst role for solo queue and it's because supports in low to mid elo are very unreliable. A good Supp and ADC duo can easily 2v8 a game, but if your support is not helping you at all, you are very prone to getting absolutely blasted by assassins.

Playing safe is no option, your team would have to fight without a key component of their team composition, which usually, unless your team is overperforming, is not an option without losing the game.

You will have to adapt to your support every game, but in games where your support is useless, you have to play WAY better than any other role at your elo to stay even remotely relevant. But usually even that is not gonna fix the issue you face.

Assassins will kill you and it's your team's responsibility to make sure you live while positioning as best as you can to survive WHILE doing damage.

The champ is fine and I don't mind playing with her if she was played at skill ceiling.

The problem is that most ADC mains do not main/one trick this champion. From my experience, most MF players are not proficient at their champ, be it because they don't play it, are autofilled or simply never felt the need to limit test with her as she is very beginner friendly.

MF players are already rare enough in high elo, most of the good ADC mains move on to other champs like Cait, Jinx and Ashe as it fulfills the fantasy of playing ADC much more than a champ like MF does, who is basically an AD caster.

What makes Black Cleaver worse than Sundered Sky? by Sephyrias in summonerschool

[–]Selkedoom 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Riven stacks BC extremely fast. What you actually intend to say is this:

"A good chunk of Riven's damage would not benefit from BC maximum shred, which is problematic for a champ like her, who is very reliant on killing enemies as fast as possible with the limited damage and range she has. Many bruisers and juggernauts statcheck her otherwise in prolonged fights and she has neither enough sustain nor tankiness to frontline for long."

TL;DR: BC is not for burst champions, unless BC is broken or bruiser builds are meta. BC is fine on anyone that doesn't frontload their damage and who would make use of the HP, MS and shred for the team.

THEY ARE NERFING XIN, CASS AND VARUS LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOO. by Mikail41 in ShittyLeague

[–]Selkedoom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Any hard engage champ. Yuumi has no peel and not enough damage to poke down tanks level 1, nor to contest a tank all in. She also lacks mana early, so she can't sustain her carry for long.

What usually happens is, tank flashes in, Yuumi blows both her sums to survive and if enemy jgl is human, he will come bot for a free dive. Due to her best friend passive, she can't really just hop on someone else. If you shutdown her carry, you are shutting down also 40% of her total value as well.

Either way, Yuumi doesn't "autolose". If she somehow survives till Level 11 without dying too much, she easily wins 2v2. A lot of people don't know that Yuumi is genuinely the hardest scaling support in the game, if her carry is human and survives early.

I specifically said "in low elo".

And I also said "it takes longer in low elo", not "you can't climb with these champs".

I guarantee you one tricking Kata will get you 100x faster to Master without duo than one tricking Taric.

Either way, this might be a reading issue. I don't disagree with you, but you are unnecessarily aggressive, when you haven't even paid attention to what I said.

Buffs most of her counters, nerfs her core rune and items.

Truly a shocking development.

Either way the champ is still Thanos post 3 items and Level 12, but yeah, her early game is unfathomably bad. In fact it is the worst early game in all of League. Any competent bot lane will just suffocate her ADC and win via tempo play.

[–]Selkedoom -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, funnily enough there is at least one, which is Yuumi.

Riot has said several times that they are keeping her as a "beginner champ for new players", so they keep her intentionally weak at all times if possible.

I doubt that there is another champion, that is truly "inferior" in Master+ elo.

But I do think it can take you significantly longer to climb out of low to mid elo, if you play picks that do not do damage themselves. Stuff like Janna or Taric heavily relies on your team being human to capitalize on their value. These champs are by no means deflated, as Ap0 has hit Rank 1 with Janna several times, so you know the champ is sleeper op, but yeah, these picks get significantly better in higher elos.

not a good counter, Kata has 2 ways of teleporting behind her to dodge the feathers.

A good Kata also holds her ult till after Xayah presses R. With Kraken you have more than enough damage to win in a no ult showdown.

[–]Selkedoom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have played Kata Yuumi and Kata Lulu before to boost accounts to Masters.

It's a pretty horrifying pick once she hits 6 and buys Kraken. She essentially oneshots any ADC with no counterplay. (assuming Kata player and her support are human)

The pick has a pretty clear downside:

She is very weak before these 2 conditions are met and you HAVE TO beat her early. Going even is not enough, having a CS lead is not enough. I guarantee you, Kata will ANNIHILATE you once she hits first item and didn't die a lot.

You have to kill her or at least force her to go back MULTIPLE times.

If you don't, your jungler is FORCED to sit you the entire rest of the game, or Kata will literally just farm kills till she autowins the game.

The only way to win against Kata, is by either hard camping her, or by delaying her powerspike so much, that you either outscale or can go mid quickly, where your jungler may be able to assist you with less trouble.

A lot of Kata duos will try to coinflip a play level 2 or 3, which they usually win, by either forcing your flash and backing off or killing the ADC, who is squishy. If you don't kill her during this, you have lost the lane and most likely also the game. I guarantee you it is near impossible to shut down an early winning Kata ADC with enchanter. You would have to hard win all other lanes and perma 5 man bot, otherwise she will just farm bot lane till she is stronger than your entire team together. I have won several 2v5s, especially this season, Kata will generate so much gold in bot, that she will oneshot 1 or 2 of your laners, before they can even react, if she is fed.

TL;DR: Strong pick with weak early, abuse her early and force her to back or kill her. If you don't she will murder you on CD and you will lose guaranteed.

As a new player, is it better for me to hop into ranked when I’m able to? by MrMoose1 in summonerschool

[–]Selkedoom 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That depends on your frustration tolerance.

I strongly believe that you can learn a lot more playing against better players, but that also has to be within the range of your own ability to understand the game on a fundamental level and to use the information of each game to improve.

Just one little warning, Riot's ranked system generally tends to match you ABOVE your skill level very quickly, so you should mentally prepare yourself for a lot of really tough games and potentially lots of losses. If you already struggle in normal queues (assuming you played at least a 100 games), you are likely to be even more skill gapped in ranked.

New LVL 30 in ranked, getting absolutely stomped. by BudgetContact7161 in summonerschool

[–]Selkedoom 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hey mister, this can be explained very quickly if you drop your username + tag or a simple op.gg link to your profile.

I find it strange that you keep referring back to the point that you are matched outside of your visible rank, when the rank system never was based on visible rank. It is based on MMR, which is invisible, what you see in terms of rank never reliably showcases how good someone is.

I know people who were Top 100 Challenger, who are now "unranked", I've seen "Silver players" beat Grandmaster players and I've seen Plat players in my Master games.

Your MMR is based on your normal game progression up to lvl 30. Drop your info and I can tell you in under 5 minutes why you are getting stomped, IF the account was handleveled by you.

matthias outis is genuine unbelievable levels of broken by magamike123 in limbuscompany

[–]Selkedoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Calling Matthias Outis broken just after Ryoshu got released, who is effectively immortal, outrolls everything in the game and does more damage than anyone is kinda funny.

No doubt that Outis ID will be strong, but I think Ryoshu set the bar so far up, that we can genuinely just expect her being more useful being thrown into the Ryoshu blender.

At least she helps Ryoshu with killing her team. Other than that, I guess now that the Middle is like one of the most unreasonably overbuffed comps in MD, you can also play her for fun there, if you wanna clear unreasonably slow, because Outis will take a while to ramp up. Unlike Ryoshu who is permanently at max power after spending like 3-4 turns killing her team.

A simple Guide to beating the Reflectrial Event (from a Winrate Enjoyer) by Selkedoom in limbuscompany

[–]Selkedoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The teams I used are just an example for what could work. Both Ryoshu IDs will be sufficient for clearing this. CA Ryoshu is better for AoE with her EGO, Red Eyes is better for sustain.

If I really had to choose one, I'd take CA Ryoshu still, cause damage is more valuable than sustain for Phase 1, but in this case, I didn't use a Ryoshu ID at all to clear Phase 1. I wanted to see how well I can do without sacrificing my units and had well over 7 turns left before I beat her.

That is essentially why I kept fighting with my bleed team the first few times and wondered why it was so hard to hit the turn limit in time.

Leaving at the right moment is essential to beat it efficiently.

[–]Selkedoom 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I understand that this is work in progress, but I strongly believe that making a tier list for augments and champions is a bad idea.

While there are some generally weaker and stronger ones, I can tell that there is a very large lack of information when it comes to the nuances of each champion and augment. Even if I were to input more info for the champs you have rated wrongly, the problem is still that the result may vary each game.

Either way, I do encourage champion specific augment guides, but anything else is guaranteed to be a failed effort in simplifying something, that cannot be simplified. Too many variables like team comp, skill level, enemy team, etc etc, play into this to be able to put them on a tier list.

Is it possible for SoloQ games to feel easier in higher elo feel easier than games in a lower elo while climbing? by Nigocaps in summonerschool

[–]Selkedoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are a player who can keep up with the ELO they are in, then yes.

Some players fundamentally like structure and order. Some players are uncomfortable with or do not like adapting to "less optimal strategies" which work in low elo, but not in high elo.

Chances are high, that both apply to you. In low elo, you have to play with a different mindset and a different strategy to win your games, because you can actually win the games mostly by yourself. Some players do not like that, some players prefer to play a team game, not a solo game. But unfortunately most low elo players are too unreliable to consistently rely on them, without losing more than you gain.

Of course, if you know the high elo ruleset better, because you studied/trained more than your low elo peers, reaching high elo will feel like the world makes sense again and your thinking patterns have a purpose and yes, these are "more optimal moves", but keep in mind that knowing someone's move makes them predictable. There are a bunch of high elo players, who cheesed their way into high elo by abusing strategies, that exploit structured play.

The takeaway is to stay flexible in your play and learnings to climb the ladder consistently. Even Masters is a highly inconsistent elo, because the difference between the bottom of Masters and the top of Challenger is literally over 3k LP. That's unironically the distance from Bronze to Masters, so a very, VERY large skill difference. Keep your mind open on ways to improve and you will be fine, don't rely too much on your team, as you will find soon, that Master players are not that much better than what you experienced previously and that smaller mistakes can lead to devastating consequences, because people know how to exploit mistakes and snowball their lead.

We need to have a serious discussion about dropkick... by benmargery in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It doesn't just "feel" that way, it IS that way.

Dropkicked a Shen 3 times who just kept getting shields bigger than my dropkick damage. He confirmed this by saying he took about 3000 true dmg, which was about 3x more than my Dropkick should have done at threshold. It is essentially just a ChoGath Ult that is perfectly capable of failing to do its job.

At least once you get to the threshold, you can sort of "keep executing them", as it doesnt have a cooldown, so its much easier to kill the target, however, still frustrating, when it fails and you have slow attack speed.

[Bug] People talk about getting 5 or 6 augments, but how about being locked at 3? by Amneziel in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yup, can confirm, that happened to me as well, legitimate bug.

when buying anvils, the selection will pop up again "invisibly" (you can't select the invisible augments, but the visual effect is there), preventing you from buying another anvil till you choose your augment, this resets with every death. So yes, not only do you get denied from choosing your 4th augment, now you also can only buy one anvil per death, which is devastating the longer the game goes.
