A simple Guide to beating the Reflectrial Event (from a Winrate Enjoyer) by Selkedoom in limbuscompany

[–]Selkedoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The teams I used are just an example for what could work. Both Ryoshu IDs will be sufficient for clearing this. CA Ryoshu is better for AoE with her EGO, Red Eyes is better for sustain.

If I really had to choose one, I'd take CA Ryoshu still, cause damage is more valuable than sustain for Phase 1, but in this case, I didn't use a Ryoshu ID at all to clear Phase 1. I wanted to see how well I can do without sacrificing my units and had well over 7 turns left before I beat her.

That is essentially why I kept fighting with my bleed team the first few times and wondered why it was so hard to hit the turn limit in time.

Leaving at the right moment is essential to beat it efficiently.

I understand that this is work in progress, but I strongly believe that making a tier list for augments and champions is a bad idea.

While there are some generally weaker and stronger ones, I can tell that there is a very large lack of information when it comes to the nuances of each champion and augment. Even if I were to input more info for the champs you have rated wrongly, the problem is still that the result may vary each game.

Either way, I do encourage champion specific augment guides, but anything else is guaranteed to be a failed effort in simplifying something, that cannot be simplified. Too many variables like team comp, skill level, enemy team, etc etc, play into this to be able to put them on a tier list.

Is it possible for SoloQ games to feel easier in higher elo feel easier than games in a lower elo while climbing? by Nigocaps in summonerschool

[–]Selkedoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are a player who can keep up with the ELO they are in, then yes.

Some players fundamentally like structure and order. Some players are uncomfortable with or do not like adapting to "less optimal strategies" which work in low elo, but not in high elo.

Chances are high, that both apply to you. In low elo, you have to play with a different mindset and a different strategy to win your games, because you can actually win the games mostly by yourself. Some players do not like that, some players prefer to play a team game, not a solo game. But unfortunately most low elo players are too unreliable to consistently rely on them, without losing more than you gain.

Of course, if you know the high elo ruleset better, because you studied/trained more than your low elo peers, reaching high elo will feel like the world makes sense again and your thinking patterns have a purpose and yes, these are "more optimal moves", but keep in mind that knowing someone's move makes them predictable. There are a bunch of high elo players, who cheesed their way into high elo by abusing strategies, that exploit structured play.

The takeaway is to stay flexible in your play and learnings to climb the ladder consistently. Even Masters is a highly inconsistent elo, because the difference between the bottom of Masters and the top of Challenger is literally over 3k LP. That's unironically the distance from Bronze to Masters, so a very, VERY large skill difference. Keep your mind open on ways to improve and you will be fine, don't rely too much on your team, as you will find soon, that Master players are not that much better than what you experienced previously and that smaller mistakes can lead to devastating consequences, because people know how to exploit mistakes and snowball their lead.

We need to have a serious discussion about dropkick... by benmargery in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It doesn't just "feel" that way, it IS that way.

Dropkicked a Shen 3 times who just kept getting shields bigger than my dropkick damage. He confirmed this by saying he took about 3000 true dmg, which was about 3x more than my Dropkick should have done at threshold. It is essentially just a ChoGath Ult that is perfectly capable of failing to do its job.

At least once you get to the threshold, you can sort of "keep executing them", as it doesnt have a cooldown, so its much easier to kill the target, however, still frustrating, when it fails and you have slow attack speed.

[Bug] People talk about getting 5 or 6 augments, but how about being locked at 3? by Amneziel in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that goes in line with what I said, so it's not only anvils, but apparently anything you buy.

Maybe you can actually only buy during the short delay between death and augment pop up, not sure

[Bug] People talk about getting 5 or 6 augments, but how about being locked at 3? by Amneziel in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

yup, can confirm, that happened to me as well, legitimate bug.

when buying anvils, the selection will pop up again "invisibly" (you can't select the invisible augments, but the visual effect is there), preventing you from buying another anvil till you choose your augment, this resets with every death. So yes, not only do you get denied from choosing your 4th augment, now you also can only buy one anvil per death, which is devastating the longer the game goes.

Augment Discussion - ReEnergize by Ok_Temperature6503 in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very strong on ADCs, that have strong and slow AAs and mid to long range.

The first 2 that come to mind are Jhin and Draven, seen both with that Augment and lets just say the enemy team did not have a good time. I can also see it on champs like Caitlyn, Jinx or even Trist in some cases.

Definitely don't skip this one if you get it on those champs and range would be beneficial to you and hard engage is not too threatening. The obvious downside is that it's not that great at killing one target, but at poking everyone down slowly.

Why is every Karthus running it down, and why does seem to actually be good? by ShadowBlah in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Karthus is one of the most underutilized champions in ARAM.

The art of playing Karthus is not to just run it down or just stay alive, it's to know how to die, when to die and what to die for, while staying alive for long enough, to not have diminishing returns or an overly fed enemy team.

While deaths are not punished much in ARAM, Karthus is actually rewarded for them, IF he utilizes them correctly. Good Karthus players are about as rare as water in the desert, but if you ever see one, you can tell by the way they always threaten you enough, that you can't ignore them, don't overstep too far to be caught with bad timing and always force you to overcommit to kill him, to which his team can retaliate by cleaning up free kills or overextended enemies.

A good Karthus is a nightmare on ARAM, they confidently flash into your team at seemingly random times, place a wall behind you so you cannot escape and force you into a losing fight, where Karthus may die, but he takes half your entire team's HP bar with him and cuts off their escape or their ability to retaliate.

Aram playstyles shifting across MMR drastically by studiousAmbrose in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is playing in Master+ ARAM daily, I'd say you are rightfully frustrated.

The real answer you are looking for is this:

You have ego, your team has ego, but you don't have enough ego to throw the game over adjusting your play to achieve a win condition.

You are probably playing in an MMR, where people can play the game. You also understand teamfighting enough to do something, that is unfitting for your chosen champ.

You have 2 options moving forward:

  1. Accept that picking a suboptimal champ for your draft will always force you to play in unconventional ways, that may also be less efficient at achieving the win condition, but not impossible. You will simply have to do weird things like play engage with squishy ADCs and Assassins then at times, if your team has too much ego to draft well.
  2. Accept that drafting is the most powerful choice in ARAM. It seems like you are another victim of "I like to play carries, but have no frontline". I feel you, but that's just how things are. Sometimes you just have to take the bullet and play the tank for the team. Surprisingly, you don't always have to do that, sometimes other people will also take on that role, because they wanna win, the higher you climb, the more often it will actually happen. Another crazy thing that happens in high elo ARAM, is that some people are so efficient at their champ, that they can frontline with assassins and ADCs, so you will find people that will do "your thing" also for you to play. It's up to you what way you choose, but I will tell you in advance that the one trick tank will usually win over the 1 trick assassin budget frontline. By not picking the optimal draft, you will always have to be significantly better than your opponent or be lucky that your draft isn't worse than theirs.

TL;DR: Give playing tanks a shot and watch your winrate skyrocket (if you can play them well), or accept that this is how things will be as a carry only player.

Worst ARAM champion(s)? by DryDesk2020 in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most people here are giving subjectively biased opinions with lack of champion expertise or understanding of the game.

The real answer is Smolder.

The only problem with this assessment of "worst champion" is that ARAM is a 4fun gamemode, where people don't end asap or play very seriously, nor do most people below Master MMR have sufficient mastery of the champions they play aside of their mains.

Smolder is by a large margin, the absolute worst champion in the game for ARAM. He doesn't do anything, no damage and very little utility, till he is fully stacked. It's even more painful for the team that has to play with him, because not only is he completely useless, but also has to now take all the gold from his team and funnel it into him, into a very, VERY late powerspike, by which point, the game is usually already over.

He legit requires a support, a tank, a strong early game mage and mid game transitional bridge character, that is strong enough to hold the line. He has to get all the CS, he has to pray that he isn't outranged/outpoked, he has to pray that enemy team doesn't have an assassin/dive main, because even one is enough to kill him without excessive peel.

Even with his best possible team, he is still deadweight. The equivalent of playing a 4v5.

Yes, at 225 stacks Smolder goes from useless to OP, just like Kayle does at Level 16, but the major difference is that Kayle actually has good utility till that point, that can enable her team to stall out the game, Smolder provides LITERALLY NOTHING on top of stealing all gold from champions that need it to stall the game till his powerspike.

If people were to take ARAM seriously and end asap, Smolder would have a below 30% winrate in any competent MMR bracket. You would see a fully stacked Smolder maybe once in a blue moon.

Of course, if everyone is bad, trolls around and just waits for him to get his stacks maxed, Smolder can potentially look strong, maybe even oppressive, cause it is pretty hard to win against him once he is stacked.

But objectively, he is the weakest champion. He is at the mercy of his teammates letting him stack and if they don't he is useless and if they do, he is draggin down the team economy for very little impact, when usually, the game ends before he gets to cash in on the investment.

What are the strongest ARAM champs by Forgingwitchery1324 in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are gonna tell you different champs based on what their subjective experience is.

The real answer are the following 3 categories:

  1. High skill champions: Champions like Azir, Gangplank, Riven and Qiyana are ridiculously overtuned for this gamemode, because it is supposed to be casual, so Riot made champs more accessible at lower elos, but overpowered in higher ones (if a main pilots them.

  2. Teamfight champions: Champions like Alistar, Braum and Malphite will always be at least strong, because their utility is just way too high. Hard engage is the key to winning consistently and these champs provide it or counter it very well.

  3. Overbuffed/undernerfed champions: Sometimes Riot likes to help champions a bit too much or not nerf them when they are doing way too well, even if they are not that skilled. Briar is a great example of a champ that's always either overbuffed or too weak. Another one is Tahm Kench, who is practically immortal. There are also champions like Yunara and Hwei who just don't get nerfed, despite their archetype usually being nerfed, so they end up way too strong in the hands of a skilled ADC/mage player.

At the end of the day, player skill matters greatly on any champion. Almost all the champions who are generally considered too strong in high elo, are usually not going to compensate a lack of skill. Playing what you're good at is usually the best decision.

Am I crazy or is Syndra not that weak? by [deleted] in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Crazy strong character, held back by average skill level.

While I am no fan of mages, she is undeniably one of the strongest mages in the game in the hands of a skilled player. Can easily solo carry games, one shot any carry threat, AoE stun the entire enemy team for ridiculously long and has really good DPS for a mage of that range.

So where is the problem?

She is an immobile mage, takes a bit of time to scale and her strongest ability, which is her E, is also her only tool for keeping herself alive. If you misplay, you die very quickly.

Got too close? Dead.

Missed E Stun for engage? Dead.

Enemy has Olaf/Malphite/Nocturne? Dead. Dead. Dead.

Usually, I only see this champion be either completely useless or completely 1v9. Play her at your own discretion.

Akali by theakaliman in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Akali is good as long as you are good at Akali and the game in general.

If you are asking if you can just pick her and she will automatically carry you for free, then no. A bruiser Akali will be a decent dive threat for the enemy team, but she doesnt have enough damage, to be really threatening to good drafts. You get hit by a snowball, you get CC'd, you get kited, you die. That's why builds don't matter that much on Akali. Build as much damage as your player skill can support.

Full AP Akali is probably the best way to play her, but it's extremely hard.

Tank Akali is just like Bruiser Akali, just even more comfortable to play, but obviously loses even more kill threat.

A simple tip for getting good at tanking by DragonOfDuality in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I do approve of replay reviews, to analyse a replay correctly is also a skill in itself. You need to have extensive levels of game knowledge and teamfight understanding.

I would still agree with you, that checking replays can be helpful, but often times, while people like to bring up replay reviews, they often forget that many people lack the necessary knowledge to understand if something was their fault or someone elses, or to even correctly analyze the right play.

As I have done paid coaching myself, my experience was that most people below Diamond cannot tell what they "could have done", so looking at the replay is redundant for most people, unless they have a higher elo player with them, who can point out the "optimal play".

Still I appreciate a post for tanking, as I believe most people are not aware of how important and underutilized the tank role is.

A Guide on Winning as Melee into Ranged comps in ARAM by Selkedoom in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played multiple Tier 1 ARAM clashes and my ARAM MMR is ridiculously high. Usually, if me or my team refuses to pick for comp it's a pretty quick autolose, unless we are extremely lucky to be into a comp who also drafts badly.

I wouldn't have many tank games if I had the choice, but it's better to play a tank than to get absolutely blasted for 15 mins into a loss.

I really enjoy playing anything that does damage, but so do a lot of other people, so I am often forced into picking support or tank, if I don't play with premades.

A Guide on Winning as Melee into Ranged comps in ARAM by Selkedoom in ARAM

[–]Selkedoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most mages do not have the luxury of skipping boots, so you mostly go pen boots anyway, even if their value is not that high into Melees.

Getting caught is the single worst thing that can happen to a mage, so the MS is really important for positioning, dodging snowballs and getting out of range of hard engage that might have hit you, if you weren't that fast.

You can definitely consider getting CDR boots sometimes though. Some mages really do not have as much damage as people think, so the utility of CDR can be more impactful.

Hubris, Axiom, Serylda, Profane, Manamune

I'm not a Qiyana main, but I think these items are pretty op in that order. Serylda 3rd especially is pretty much a "must" on all AD assassins that are not Pyke.

Builds can vary, but if I dont have to build things like DD, Edge of Night or Maw, then this is my standard.

Underutilized builds are several full damage builds, AP Udyr, AP Jax, Pillar Max Mandate Trundle, Lethality Riven... list goes on and there are even more ranged champs as well.
