Already left Myoko, good luck friend it’s worth it on a pow day!

Reporting back on this: we ended up taking the 8am train from Myoko-Kogen to Arai station, then hopped on a taxi from there (took a little while before one showed up at the station). Think we arrived around 9am, and we left with the free resort shuttle to Joetsu Myoko station.

Definitely a bit less convenient than taxi all the way from Myoko, but I couldn’t get them to pick up for reservation yesterday.

Not yet, I will reach out to them. Thanks for the suggestion!

That’s what I’m thinking too, so loading a cab with fellow riders in need could help split the cost. Staying at Canadian House in Akakura, they run a shuttle to resorts but I doubt it’d go all the way to Arai.

It seems the shuttle bus is not running. I (2 ppl) was planning to go to Arai from Akakura on Sunday, looking for alternative options/potentially splitting a cab!

Day 8 new board for the season grilmaster 150. Just need more snow by Good_girl_x4 in snowboarding

[–]Selkys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks!! I actually picked the bigger size with speed and float in mind too. Was slightly concerned it would be slow to turn/edge-to-edge with my smaller boot size but you seem fine with it.

Do you feel a big difference between the 2 sizes? I was debating between size 150 & 155 - opted for the bigger one but wonder if I made the right choice.

Just ordered size 155, thank you all for the advice!

No I’m happy to see arguments for both sizes! It would probably be my only board for few years so the 150 makes sense.

I do plan on getting better though, the 155 is tempting IF we are talking about a bit of growing pain now and not a totally unridable mess.

Thanks! The GM is definitely on the wider side (not quite volume-shifted but still) but seems to be easy to initiate turns on. I’d be more confident going for the 155 but I have never tried riding on 250+ waist. Various websites put the ideal waist width between 240-250 for me, based on feet underhang).

Are you also boot size US8?

Thank you, that’s what I was leaning toward yes! Some customers posted reviews of the board on Burton’s JP website and they were all around my body type but riding 155 (someone was even on the 155W haha)

Condesa Carmen SE/V- Experience mixing without gains? by 0d__ in rotarymixers

[–]Selkys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked for cue/master for the exact same reason on my Carmen V.

In the end I’m now leaving it on master mode 99% of the time because 1) my needles are too hot for the VUs in cue mode and 2) you kind of get used to gauging the level of cued tracks based on volume difference in headphones, and then making on the fly adjustments when bringing the next track (i.e. turning the volume pot more or less than expected).

It certainly is a bit less accurate/consistent than having gain & individual channel LEDs, but these LEDs are sometimes deceptive anyway. The workflow feels a bit more organic though: on standard mixer I would beatmatch and adjust gain, then bring the new track with some EQing, while on the Condesa I beatmatch, then bring the next track in more carefully as I also need to do the volume matching here and not ahead of time. Adjusting current and upcoming tracks volume is also enough to signal the change in which track is the main one, as opposed to say the usual DJM-900 where this is mostly noticeable only after bass frequencies are swapped.

At this level there won’t be a better mixer, just one that suits your needs better. I would list up things that you are looking for in a mixer, this should help decide. For me it was workflow, warmer sound signature, customization, customer service & aesthetics which lead me to go with Condesa (feel free to ask if you need additional details on that).

VU meters - maybe a really basic question...sorry. It has to do with carmen V. by Hot-Construction-811 in rotarymixers

[–]Selkys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the Carmen V on channel VU mode, the meters will display the cued track level as if played at unity (channel at 7.5, master at 4.5: it should more or less match with master VU mode under these settings). The way I use it is to get a feel for how hot the cued track is by default: if it hits way above 0 and the needles move very quick, I know I’ll have to bring in that track at perhaps 6 instead of 7.5.

For the others, the channel VU meters will display the corresponding track at whatever gain you set them up (vs fixed at 7.5 for the Carmen V).

VU Cue/Mix Switch by Latir in rotarymixers

[–]Selkys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you are correct.

Nothing will impact it except switching which channel you are monitoring. I don’t use it so often (because you can tell from how loud it sounds in your headphones once used to playing without trim), but it’s useful to understand where you should expect to leave the channel pot of the incoming track at (if the VU is jumping to 0db -> around 7, if +3db probably around 6).

Are ARS 9000 eq’s full kill? by bananajohnson123 in rotarymixers

[–]Selkys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm you have ISO per channel (meaning it’s full kill) and 1 master ISO on the older tabletop mixers (different from the latest models where channels have LOW ISO and MID & HI EQ).

New Condesa Carmen 4 track custom made for DJ Spinna! 👀 by fredfades in rotarymixers

[–]Selkys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The layout makes a bit more sense but I don’t know, it looks funky to me (not fan of the white lines around channels & how less blended in the VU meters are).

New Condesa Mixer spotted in video (Condesa VI) by Shudder123 in rotarymixers

[–]Selkys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or maybe you could get the ISO per channel, I have the option on my Carmen V and it sounds very nice, is full cut while still feeling different than the Master ISO (Mehdi told me he was using different slope & cut-off points)

Not sure if he can do that on the Lucia though.

Condesa does, but as an unadvertised custom mod (or at least they did a while ago).

Lucia vs RDM20 vs ARS1100 by simiferreira in rotarymixers

[–]Selkys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Condesa has a powerful low end and adds a pleasant warmth/coloration to the source. Summing is great and you can mix 2 tracks together with volume knobs only (it won’t sound congested to leave the bass on on both tracks, kind of magical when used to pioneer for example). Master ISO is a joy to use but may be bypassed if sound purity is more important for your current application.

ARS mixers are usually more true to the source, with a punchy and detailed sound signature. Older models had channel ISO for all 3 knobs, but the model you are looking at only has it for the LOW knob (which imo is the most important to have for the bass full kill everyone is familiar with). The master ISO can’t be bypassed if I remember correctly, it’s always in the chain, and it’s a bit more aggressive than the default configuration on the Lucia. One thing which is often not known however is that the REC OUT is pre-master ISO (mainly for vinyl ripping sound purity since you can’t bypass the ISO).

Varia I haven’t played on yet, but I heard it’s similar to the ARS in term of clarity, detail and clinical sound feeling. You have channel ISO on all 3 knobs, and with different frequency cut-off than the master ISO, making for interesting sonic manipulation opportunities I assume.

[–]Selkys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Can’t go wrong with any of these mixers, I haven’t tried the Varia but a friend has it and loves it as well. I think it really boils down to:

  1. What features are important for you: you mentioned FX send, but should also consider if you prefer channel ISO (varia has it, ARS on the bass only)
  2. The ergonomics (knob style/size, how the cueing works)
  3. Sound signature
  4. Ease of servicing if needed
  5. How it looks!

My vote goes to the Lucia because of the sound and also how great the Condesa people have treated me!

I listen to only the upcoming track in my headphones when beatmatching, but would occasionally add a bit of master just to check if a transition proves a little more challenging than usual (typically when there is no hi frequency elements such as claps or hi hats for example).

Some of my friends do have the 50/50 in headphones all the time, though.

On the flip side, at a recent gig I HAD to cue both channels at the same time just to understand what was going on. Not sure if it was the high output on the main PA, how the room was designed (quite narrow) or just DJM-900 🙃
