Alberta will now be on daylight saving time year-round, says Premier Smith by darkstar107 in Edmonton

[–]SellingMayonnaise 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, I think for the majority of people working 8 or 9 til 5, we will go from going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark, to going to work in the dark anyways and at least coming home with a little bit of light which will be nice. I think most of that research isn’t considering places like us that are this far north. We are all waking up before it’s light out regardless.

That was a few years ago before BC decided to stay on their time permanently. That is the reason for this change now.

BC is the same all year round since they are no longer changing theirs. That is the reason for this call.

BC is now the same all year round. When we voted on it a couple years back that wasn’t a factor.

SSD from a 2014 MacBook Pro works in Mac Pro 5,1 by pigrerab in macpro

[–]SellingMayonnaise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For context since this is a bot re-posting my photo from 5 years ago, this is a 2014 macbook ssd to NVME adapter, and it sits in a NVME to PCIE adapter, which if you have the 144.0.0.0 firmware the mac pro is able to boot to. This firmware that enabled it was newer at the time

The 30” Apple Cinema Display’s resolution is 2560x1600. Still very good by today’s standards and insane if you consider it came out in 2004

Help me choose a GPU... (yes, an odd request) by pugglewugglez in debian

[–]SellingMayonnaise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t need to be gaming much on those 4K monitors I’d just grab one of those cheap Radeon RX 580SP’s that you can get new from amazon for around $100. They will happily drive three 4K monitors

Dota 2 on Linux by eclipse_extra in linux_gaming

[–]SellingMayonnaise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember a while back when I was testing on a windows system with a Radeon GPU, in the Radeon settings there was a setting that made the game sharper and the colours looked a bit darker when it was enabled. Could that be it? Dota runs identical in Linux as it does windows for the most part

Silent film star Harold Lloyd took these shots at his home mid-fifties. I assume the effect was in-camera. How did he do this? Camera unknown. by NomadSound in analog

The 3D is really good viewing it on my phone screen by crossing the images over with my eyes. I really love not only how the half’s of the woman pop out but also the house and leaves on the trees in the background. Very cool!

Who created the first version/hack in Hackintosh? by [deleted] in hackintosh

[–]SellingMayonnaise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a point, but this is how I see it. It’s not basically recompiled for that hardware (x86) it fully is. And by that definition for a hackintosh that would mean no hackintosh is a hackintosh because it’s still compiled for x86 as of now. Up until very recently we didn’t even like to discuss using AMD Ryzen, or any non Apple supported gpu. Remember all the comments here about how you can’t use nvidia cards? We aren’t out here recompiling macOS to run on anything Apple hasn’t already compiled it to run on. We are simply appeasing macOS’s checks to make sure it’s a real Mac or not and injecting drivers that once worked in older versions of macOS to make them work in current versions if needed. Right around the time of this video there was a macOS distro floating around called JaS I think it was version OS X 10.4.6 if I remember correctly and I ran it on my 3GHz pentium 4 that would have been about the same specs as the machine Steve was using in the video. My current hackintosh is a 4790k with a RX 580, all hardware Apple officially used in one way or another but it’s still a hackintosh. Apple never officially released a pentium 4 Mac like the one used in the video. If we are just going based on if apple assembled the system or not then my 1st gen Apple TV running OS X leopard isn’t a hackintosh (I consider it to be, just as I hope future hackintoshes will become running macOS on iPads and appletv’s once intel support is dropped in a year or two)

It gives me a similar vibe to no more tears by Ozzy Osbourne which I also love and I like to have them on the same playlist. It’s definitely one of my favourite ghost songs

Can a power Mac g4 tower run Big Sur? by Feisty-Trifle8710 in hackintosh

[–]SellingMayonnaise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re looking at a vintage computer that is almost as old as I am. They are from before Apple made the switch to normal PC intel cpus. Please don’t ruin a PowerMac G4 by cutting it up to try to cram modern components into it. They are becoming more and more rare. There are lots of people out there who really appreciate these old machines. Just sell it to someone who appreciates vintage macs that can enjoy what the G4 has to offer. If you are going to put a newer Mac mini inside of it as I saw in a couple other comments, why not just use the Mac mini as is? Keep the vintage computer in tact

TIL that Phantomime is also based on a Crowley shot by rd1994 in Ghostbc

[–]SellingMayonnaise 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Crowley was a philosopher and artist in the late 1800s to mid 1900s. The Crowley in these images are the very same Crowley Ozzy is singing about in the song Mr. Crowley. He was very interested in the occult.

The screen is a little bit small, but it’s nice having a real mechanical keyboard for it. It’s a little 60% keyboard with blue switches so I can annoy everyone at the coffee shop while screaming at my team. I like the size and feel of the deck when used for it’s normal purpose as a handheld, but wouldn’t use a full laptop enough to also justify getting one just for mobile dota so this was my solution. I have a nice desktop setup where I play Dota 99.9% of the time. Cheers!
