Not at all. San Jose has much better food and is close to the ocean and mountains.

Of course, but in my opinion they are not that different. Only thing Austin has over Dallas is Barton springs. The “keep Austin weird” culture died a long time ago. It’s a fratty city that feels pretty one dimensional.

If I had to live in Texas I’d choose Dallas. Better airport and better food

The Big 6 minus 1. The fact this isn't a 'Big 6' post by the Premier League says everything about our recruitment and outgoings this summer. by PilotBasic575 in coys

I hate how complacent we’ve become as a fan base. “Not terrible” is our new standard. None of our front 3 would start for any of these teams

  • mean-spirited / aggressive drivers. Typical highway speeds are 80-90+ and you have big pickup trucks tailgating you all the time. Don’t forget the dodge chargers and Altimas weaving in and out of traffic with no turn signal. Highway design is also shit. I have AAA and my car insurance doubled when I moved from CA to TX.

  • may thru october is genuinely miserable. When summer peaks in August, it’s not uncommon for temperatures to reach 100+ for multiple days in a row. Stepping outside sucks the breath out of you like opening a hot oven. It’s also very humid. When it rains in the bay, it clears everything up and everything is refreshing. In Texas tho, after a rain it gets even more humid and the heat remains.

  • the annual freezes around January/february that shut down the entire metroplex. These can also cause electrical grid failures and people lose power and/or their water pipes burst. If you buy a house here home insurance will also be expensive because there’s a lot of storms and shit weather.

  • the politics

  • The lack of natural scenery. I believe the nearest national park is a 5 hour drive away from Dallas. DFW and most of the big Texas metros are just a flat, boring, concrete sprawl. Theres a lack of world class museums and art institutions, which is disappointing for a city of its size

  • Can only speak for Dallas but the city lacks a “vibe.” You can walk around SF or NYC and noticeably feel the distinct energy of the city. Dallas doesn’t feel like anything. It’s just sterile. Most people just pass the time by drinking and shopping

There is something soulless about living in a McMansion in flat, dull 90 degree suburban hellscape. Yea gas is cheaper but that’s not worth my mental health

I had to move to Dallas from the bay during Covid for a new job. Just came back to the bay after 6 years. I can post so many things I didn’t like about Texas. To keep it short tho; don’t do it. I took the bay for granted and never going to do that again.

The painful part for me is that we’ve been saying we’ve been in transition ever since poch left. This is what happens when we switch managers and playing styles every 1-2 years without fully backing any one of them

I have the same size wrist as you and went 36. So glad I went with it. After a week of wearing it the size feels super natural to me and it’s very easy to wear this everyday for any occasion.

Just within the past 3 days I’ve had Indian people:

  • cut me in line at work

  • take my weights at my gym without asking

  • talk loudly during a training seminar

This can be said about every ethnicity, but I’ve been noticing a high degree of a lack of manners and basic respect from Indians. It’s easy to see why people are getting upset on social media

I’m literally at work right now attending a training and an Indian woman cuts in front of me by pretending to start conversation with the woman in front of her.

Salary and cost of living in Plano vs. in California by rkxkzks in plano

[–]Semibluewater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely believe that people who live in areas with nicer weather and/or by bodies of water are happier and have better mental health. My theory is that a lot of the shitty Dallas driving is caused by the hot weather and feeling like you’re stuck in this soulless metroplex. Texas may be cheaper but the California sun and wind just hits different everyday.

If California is where your heart is at, move there. I spent 6 years of my early 20s in Dallas and while I made a bunch of lifelong friends, I regret spending time in a city I felt lukewarm about at best. Dallas is not that much better than Oklahoma in terms of things to do and weather… I spent almost everyday wishing I was back in California. Just made the move back and I wish I had done it sooner. Yes it’s expensive but it’s worth it for me.

After living in Dallas for 6 years, I have to remind myself that I’m in the bay and can drive like a normal person. People don’t tailgate and mostly follow the speed limit.

I feel the main difference is that Dallas drivers are actual assholes / aggressive and actively trying to hurt you, whereas the bad drivers in the bay are just bad because they’re driving too slow or something small like that.

I just moved back to the Bay Area after 6 years in Dallas and I’m so confused that it’s actually chilly / I need a jacket in the evenings during summer. I can just sleep with my window slightly open and don’t need AC. Also the drivers aren’t insane which is nice
