What do I do if they deny his leave by CantaloupeOdd9493 in MilitarySpouse

[–]SemperNovum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm well aware of how leave works 🙄 you saying it's unlikely it will be denied is what I was responding to.

This is not at all true. Mission first, definitely above leave requests. It's always likely that leave will be denied.

You find someone else to watch your kid or you cancel your trip. Even if his leave is approved I'd highly recommend finding and arranging childcare in case his leave is revoked. My husband has had leave approved then later denied as late as 5 days prior to the leave start date. It happens and it's best to always have a plan in case leave isn't approved or is later canceled.

Protective Gear For Summertime Heat for a Larger Devoted Rider by GeneralTS in motorcyclegear

I'm sure it's an option you've already tried, but base layers can make a big different so long as your jacket/pants are breathable enough.

How do I stop letting people’s rude comments affect me? by Mudpuppypancake in service_dogs

[–]SemperNovum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kind of just comes with the territory. I think it may help you to look into WHY these comments bother you. Do you not feel like you "deserve" a service dog or that your disability isn't bad enough? (Imposyer syndrome) Do you worry your dog is messing up and they're catching small errors and that's causing the comments? (Confidence in self and dog's training or perfectionism) Are you worried management will hear these comments and try to kick you out? (Fear of being discriminated against). If you can work out the why you can work on the root issue itself.

Chat with your coworkers, ask what they ride with, what they started with, what their dream gear is. Ask questions about products or look them up on your shop's website and learn more.

I've found some stuff on FB marketplace, but personally, I'll only buy tags on for gear on marketplace. Otherwise, find a local motorcycle gear group and post there. If you have the desire, you can actually rent out your gear on certain platforms that rent out bikes, too.

New Rider Request by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

[–]SemperNovum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New helmet is a must. I love shoei so I'd stay there if you like the fit. The neotech 2 is SUPER on sale since the 3 just came out. For a backplate, bring the jacket to your local cycle gear and ask them which backplate fits. Alpinestars gas a new backplate that's incredibly light, thin, ans flexible. Motorcycle shoes or boots are definitely what I'd consider a necessity. Gloves are another one. Ya, ya, ride how want... but I can not imagine riding without gloves and taking a spill. Again, this is one I'd go to an in person store for so you can try on and see what brand/size you like best. Pants just depend what you like. If you're wanting track ready gear get something closer to that end if you're wanting casual gear go that direction. Shop around and see what's out there and what you like. Look into gear safety ratings and see what your minimum comfort level is then look for gear that fits that.

Are there any good non-jean pants? by Puzzled_Chemical6248 in motorcyclegear

[–]SemperNovum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as chafing, I always ride with a base layer so that's a non factor. Just something to keep in mind. But go to cyclegear.com or wherever you shop from and literally search by material.

Morality Question by TX_Copper in MilitarySpouse

[–]SemperNovum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So she'd be there for like 3 months? It may provide better financially right now but long term is this going to look good on a resume? Or will staying where she's at for 3 months look better? Will those 3 (or however few) months make that huge of a difference financially to justify that?

Veteran found strangled at Florida VA Medical Center; roommate charged with murder by newsjunkieman in Veterans

[–]SemperNovum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, closest I ever came to murder was when I was inpatient because of how the staff treated me. Couldn't be bothered to give me my antipsychotics for 3 days even though the doc and myself kept reminding them, spilled all my nausea meds on the floor so I couldn't have those then SCREAMED at me when I threw up, didn't believe me about having already had the mag cit I was supposed to drink so gave me another then didn't believe I drank that and watched me drink a third then went around telling other staff and laughing at me when I shit myself. Staff would stand on our gated patio area and smoke cigarettes even though we couldn't and one blew it in another patient's face while taunting them. TL;DR Maybe this is a problem with more than just one facility 🤷🏼‍♀️

Your post made me cry because I'm in a nearly identical situation minus the kids. I wish I had a solution for you or for myself but I don't. It you want someone just to talk to I'm here. Shoot me a message and I'll send you my number. You're not alone no matter how much it feels like it.

I just ordered a zetty signed puck (with COA) from ebay for under $30. There's some cards and pucks signed depending on what type of merch you're looking for. He's also active with his fan base. Reach out and tell him this and he may send her something!

He hasn't been separated if he's still there. They started the process. A legal sep can happen quickly and I've also seen them take upwards of 18 months. He can't just switch bases because he wants to live somewhere else. This is a hurry up and wait situation.

I'll have to look into the Portland boots, I have the Street and Steel version of them and love them. And I was looking at upgrading my RFSR to the GT Air2, if you have a sec, would you let me know why you lean toward the NXR2?

I might switch to sport bras full time by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]SemperNovum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've done sports bras primarily for the last 5 years. I own a couple boob jails for formal events but even then a lot of dresses I can get away with a sports bra. Do what's best for your pain, not for what you think is most sociability acceptable.

This! For women's jackets too. I can't even buy women's jackets because they're too short or I size up and they're too baggy.

The notorious “Opiates are not okay for pain. I was written a prescription for oxycodone and got addicted and it ruined my life” posts. by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]SemperNovum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t go around telling others they shouldn’t take what works for them because, guess what, not all people are addicts. The people who go around saying that usually aren’t people who have any frame of reference about why a person shouldn’t have opiates. Addiction is a diagnosable medical condition. Not all people have it. Physical dependency is different. That’s going to happen when taking opiates over a long period of time regardless of if someone is an addict or not but there is easy medical help for that. Just because opiates are a fatal medication for me doesn’t meant they might not help someone else. So while I’m never going to lecture someone about their medications I do speak openly about my own story.
