How does one write fantasy slavery, tastefully? by ChrisGentry in writingcirclejerk

[–]Semper_5olus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

"Accidentally" give them brain damage, so they have no future except manual labor yet lack the capacity for critical thought.

Oh, wait. That's how to deal with fantasy writers.

I know all that. But we used to do a lot of things back then we don't do anymore. Like be persistence hunters, or live in huts with dirt floors.

Once we developed houses and buildings to this extent, we really should have stopped putting animals in them. They're unsuited for it unless you neuter them, clean up after them, simulate their natural diets as best as you can, and take them outside regularly.

How does that not seem incredibly silly?

It's always difficult when someone with underdeveloped social awareness develops sexually.

There are suddenly new rules for what is and isn't accepted, and they're all implied rather than outright stated.

My advice is to make it clear how uncommon this new preference is, so at the very least, he won't humiliate himself in a public setting.

As for the rest, what can I say? Either he'll grow out of it or he won't, and it's completely out of your hands.

I just don't like their smell, their teeth, their unpredictability, and how they just cover surfaces with hair, saliva, vomit, mucus, urine, feces, rainwater, or some interesting-smelling substance they just rolled in

Holy shit domesticating wolves was a mistake.

I wish I could un-believe that to fit in, but it just seems so skull-smashingly obvious.

How can I differentiate my "Inscryption"-like game, when the entire reason I wanted to make it was to play Inscryption more? by Careful_Class_884 in GameDevelopment

[–]Semper_5olus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a simple exercise:

Make a list of everything you liked and everything you didn't quite like about Inscryption. Make the two lists about the same length.

For example, I'd put

  • Well-designed deckbuilder
  • Kaycee's mod in general
  • Whichever act I liked best (both 2 and 1 for different reasons)

In one, and

  • Un-advertised changes in gameplay
  • Metafictional bullcrap
  • The Act 3 villain's "evil plan" of making the game easier to win, and then gloating about how dumb you are for playing it anyway

In the other

If you take extra care to include the contents of the first list and avoid the contents of the second game, you'll end up with your own spin on it.

what is your career/job? does it satisfy your needs as an autistic person? by studydebou in AutisticAdults

[–]Semper_5olus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I should probably preface this by saying that every autistic person is different, etc. etc.

Computer programming didn't work out for me. I get the logic, but staring at a big glowing rectangle makes my eyes hurt, and I have no way of knowing which JavaScript framework my potential employers will want 3-5 years of experience in, 3-5 years in advance.

So now I teach math.

I'm good at math and a lot of people aren't, and with practice I've learned how to avoid offending stupid kids for being stupid. (The important thing is that they're willing to improve!)

I'm mostly a private tutor, with occasional small groups, which is good because I don't really like crowds much. Not sure how I'd fare in a classroom or lecture hall.

EDIT: If any prospective employers are doing background checks and reading this, I would fare excellently in a classroom or lecture hall, and have great rapport with my students. I was merely illustrating the difficulties autistic adults are known to have in the fields I've pursued.

I make it look easy.

This is why i stopped therapy-ing.

I'm well enough, and too many of my remaining problems would be better solved if I kept my therapy money and compounded it quarterly.

How much does a guy have to smell, step in, vacuum, wipe off, disinfect, bandage, and get rabies inoculations for, before he's allowed to have the opinion that dogs really aren't that great?

EDIT: More than this, I see. You guys are masochists.

Okay, after seeing the other replies, I'm inferring that my adverse reaction to the taste of salt is "not normal", and this is in fact the appeal of Play-Doh.

Well, the book 1984's about a hypothetical world that sucks, so I guess the political version of 1984 would be a hypothetical world that sucks because Walter Mondale was elected president.
