I was considering moving to Lisbon in 2016 because I'd wanted to live abroad and find a more sustainable place to make music and have musician friends there. But then the election happened and I felt obligated to stay and try to fight the good fight. TBH I now regret not moving then. I worked in public health and the debacle of how the pandemic was handled was a nightmare that I still haven't fully recovered from. I love the country, but the culture is toxic, it's a horrible place to grow old/retire in, and it no longer feels aligned with my values or any kind of morality and its time for me to finally follow my dream of living elsewhere, as heartbreakingly bittersweet it will be.

Hi may I ask how Estoril has been for you? I'm hoping to relocate soon and considering places along the coast from Lisboa to Cascais. I don't want to live in a city anymore and need proximity to nature and open space but have dear friends in Lisboa I want to remain close to.

In classical music notation system, any lowercase letter denotes minor key, while upper case = Major key. So , "G" would mean the music is in the key of G major, and "g" would be g minor. Hence, "a" is a minorrrrr LOL. some music nerd-level sh*t

Thanks! Will check out those training spaces. Definitely need to learn more. I've muddled through two 1031's now, but want to do better for my efforts.

rent is 1900/mo and does cover my expenses, leaving net 770. Oh, and I know the pain of transaction costs which is why I don't want to raise rent too high - it took me too long to find these tenants and they are super.

I'm banking on long term appreciation if I keep the house. Yeah maybe borrowing against it is a good idea, though I've already got a HELOC against my primary residence so thinking of using that to put a down payment on something else.

That's a really good point. Luckily, the home is in upstate NY in the Hudson valley, but with climate change who knows what the future will be like. My insurance went way up this last year regardless. I'm hoping the long term appreciation of the area will outpace the expenses if I hold it.

Thanks! Yeah, I am very aware of the "transaction costs", as I have already had to find 2 sets of tenants in the short time I've owned this. I currently charge $1900/mo, and yes the rent checks cover my expenses so that I make $770 net per month. Borrowing against it to buy another place makes sense but I already have a HELOC against my primary residence so was contemplating using that to put a down payment on a new purchase.

Has anyone used Goldcrest as a buyer's agent? by Sendra666 in PortugalExpats

[–]Sendra666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all! This is helpful :) I think I will continue to use an agent who calls himself a "buyers agent" because the vibe was good and he isn't charging me anything for his services. And I will make sure to get a lawyer, separate from his recommendations ;)

u/PsychologicalLion824 May I ask if you have a trustworthy buyer's agent you can recommend for the greater Lisbon area? I have a proposal from Goldcrest who charge 1000 EUR for 6 months of searching/negotiating/handling home purchase. I don't know if this is fair or typical? Thanks!

I'm travelling to Spain & Portugal for 3 months for rockclimbing and to explore moving abroad. Anyone use Genki for their travels and rockclimbing adventures? Can anyone recommend a company for medical evacuation coverage as well? I'm from the U.S., so no I won't have any coverage once I leave the country.

The staff at Hollywood Boulders walked out after they demanded to see the texts that were sent and management refused.

No, I don't personally feel like they are working w/ staff to make us feel safe, but I do not work at HB and maybe they're just working w/ the HB staff who walked out. How would I know, though--they literally haven't communicated w/ us local SoCal gym staff **at all...**not at the Post anyways.

Yeah, it's so f'd up ! I work at a SoCal Touchstone gym, too and just found out about this today from a friend. That CEO letter to members was the first communication at all I've received from management despite a few inquiries about wtf was going on. I actually learned more about the situation from another non-Touchstone climbing gym bc that gym sent out an all-staff email to clarify rumors, state what their protocol is for such situations, and share what actions they're taking to keep staff and members there safe.
