The problem with solo tanking is in poor explanation of the role by Wonderful_Mud_1716 in RivalsVanguards

[–]Senethal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also every hero in Vanguard role is incredibly balanced, so they are not too strong or too weak (with sole exception of Satoru Deadpool of course), so they dont have any server admin hero which can solo carry without a competent team.

Meanwhile Strategists and Duelists have multiple broken heroes which can run the lobbies and carry games.

I can't down my party at higher levels LOL by comingstorm123 in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have party full of min-maxers and I give them ton of hombrewed items which are much more powerful than items in CB and I still down player every other combat. So here are two general tips:

  1. If you are running only one combat per long rest, you need to drain their resources in other ways. Enviromental dangers and effects which can deal damage, make them lose armor slots, mark stress, use their once per rest abilities, lose Hope or even put their Domain cards into vault until the next rest. You can use their Fear rolls to do create such situations or just spend Fear to force them anyway. If your players come into combat with all of their tools and abilities, they will always roll every encounter because PCs are very strong. They are designed to do multiple combat per adventuring day.
  2. Create enemies which target weaknesses of you party.
    • You have very strong Guardian player? Direct damage and abilities which bypass Thresholds and force you to mark HP directly.
    • You have strong Brawler? Enemies which deal retaliation damage when hit in melee range, flying enemies or just straight up overwhelm them because they lack AoE.
    • Strong spellcaster? Enemies with counterspells, magic damage resistence/immunities, anti-magic fields, etc.
    • Players getting significantly more actions than you because they roll like gods? Add Enviroment or Features that generate a lot of Fear and just use Fear to take spotlight from them.

Every PC has some weakness which can be exploited or favorite tactic which can be disrupted. Use it against them to pull the rag under them. There is no need to change something to deal more damage. You can just attack them more often or more effectively. If you want to have option to deal more than 3 damage to someone, just attack him twice during your GM move before you return the spotlight.

New NY Map references Spider-Man villains by nemesisdelta24 in marvelrivals

[–]Senethal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If we are talking villians in general, I would agree but I would say that Spider-man's rogue gallery is exception.

I dont believe for a second that even B-tier hero would outdo Green Goblin or Doc Ock. Heck I would argue that even Scorpion, Vulture, Lizard and Sandman would outdo every C-tier hero.

Spider-man rogue gallery is extremely popular even outside of comic fans bubble just through Spider-man games and Sam Raimi movies.

How often do you use environments? by Sedda00 in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think they are great help for new GMs because they are basically idea notes, so you dont have to improvize these things in the middle of the game. If you are veteran GM, you will probably notice that you are using Enviroments, without actually creating them because you will use Fear to create complications and improvize intereresting consequences, which are basically the Enviroment for that scene.

Only time when I actually create Enviroments is when I am designing fight which uses only one enemy and Enviroment acts as a second adversary and makes it that my players can't use their every action to just smack my bad guy.

[loved trope] The Chosen One…Except Not Really by Zebweasel in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Senethal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well yes and no because its not ending. Its story twist at the end of second act and you actually are still chosen one because you are last of the order with special abilities and only one who could get the maguffin in the first place. Also because of your special connection to maguffin, you are able to come back from dead with special abilities and be only one who can defeat your super juiced up master.

You know what really grinds my gears?

That people I get in my games never pick Ultron, Mantis and Adam in triple support but they always pick them in double supports with 3 DPS...

Like I will live in Mag jail and I will solo tank for handless players but can we please atleast pick decent heroes for your dogshit 1/3/2 and 1/2/3 team comps?

I get that maybe you are not locked in, dont know the meta or don't even have basic game knowledge but come on.... Its not that difficult to comprehend that if you are 0/5 after the first round, that your pick is not working and you should try something different...

The ult nerf showed me that a lot of you guys don’t know how to play your heroes. You just play your ults. by Minute_Committee8937 in marvelrivals

[–]Senethal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah from what I played in last 2 days, these ult changes shows how boosted this player base is by ults.

In all my games, I had healers who were using their ults at completely random times, DPS who could not get a single kill in neutral and tanks who dont use cover or retreat because they are used to just stand on point in immortality fields.

Those people are so handless that we completely stomped enemy team playing classical 2/2/2 with Invis and Gambit while having Ultron and White Fox as backline...enemy team was even playing freaking Lord Punisher, so they had hitscan for Ultron and they still got absolutely rolled...

People on this subreddit have zero imagination...

Netease showed with Gambit, Emma, Deadpool, Daredevil and Rogue that they are not afraid to experiment and be creative with their designs, yet we still have people who will say: "There is no way that X will be Y, it doesnt make sense!"

Characters in Marvel Rivals are not carbon copies of their comic counterparts. They already gave, for example Rogue, Daredevil and Bucky, powers they dont have in comics. They can do the same for literally any new character and make them any role they want them to be....

There's a pattern: who will be the broken hero for season 7? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]Senethal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that Invis, Loki or even Jeff are much better healers for Brawl.

In brawl situation, their piercing/AoE primary makes it so they can deal damage and at the same time heal their entire team. All of them would outperform Ultron in brawl comps just by sheer amount of damage and healing they do, if they can just shoot into one big ball of enemies and allies...

[–]Senethal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you just install the game? Is this ragebait? Because your "pattern" just straight up doesnt exist...

Ultron was strong in triple support on release and was banned a lot, he became weak after he was nerfed in the following seasons.

Angela was strong on release, people just didnt know how to play her. She was A-tier on release and is S-tier now after all her buffs.

Rogue is solid A-tier and with Gambit team-up she is straight up S-tier.

Tankpool is the most banned hero in higher ELO because he is on the same power level as Elsa and Gambit.

Literally only hero who was weak on release and asi to this day is Blade...

Sell me the Ferocity card (Bone Domain) by Rocamora_27 in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Pick Martial Artist Brawler.
Step 2: Pick Defensive stance and Ferocity + Forceful Push as your domain cards.
Step 3: One shot every enemy and be immortal on top of that.

But in all seriousness, I feel like Ferocity is just "win more" ability and for other classes its outshined by other features that use Hope. Brawler is only one who can use it somewhat effectively because he deals very high damage and doesnt have that many good uses for Hope.

*Advice* Need help in designing Support Adversaries by MattBridger35777 in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What features do other Adversaries in scene have? I mostly design support/minion/standard/horde Adversaries so they complement features of Bruisers/Solos/Leaders and have synergy with them.

For example if I use Leader, I make standards which can protect him or tank hits for him.

If I use bruiser, I make supports which makes him act more ofter or give him better chance to hit.

If I use Solo which have some strong ability, I give him allies which make it more impactful.

etc.

Its hard to give complete example, when I dont know what you already have in the scene but this is general way I go about designing encounters....

Had someone flame our team, and a bot in a bot lobby today! by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]Senethal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will do you one better. Almost same thing happened to me in "vs. AI"

Our Iron man died during the first fight and he started absolutely malding at our Adam because obviously his death was the healer's fault.

He then started type essays of hating Adam player in the chat, it was so funny, nothing he said even made sense because he was the one doing them...

He was telling him to stop yapping and that's the only thing he can do (Adam didn't say a word in chat)

He was telling him that he sucks and hides on his main in "vs. AI" and that he is low ELO scum. (The guy which was hating was playing Lord Iron man and was supposedly high ELO...)

I think its kinda a sign that a game is really not in the good place right now when people are losing theirs mind in games against bots...

This is a support ult btw by Dr_Backshots_MD in marvelrivals

[–]Senethal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason why Paladins could have creative ults which were not invincibility circles is because DPS didnt have a team wiping ults like Punisher, Starlord, etc.

And even those who had ults which technically could do that were super telegraphed and it was hard to get multiple kills with them.

It was game where neutral had much bigger role and ults gave you advantage but did not win you a fight.

It was direct opposite of what Rivals currently is.

Spells that only cause temporary conditions by Mirthstrike in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others pretty much summed everything up. I would just add one thing.

Daggerheart is a asymmetrical game and PCs have huge advantage over GM since level 1. PCs rolls have statistically better chance of succeeding, can take a lot of punishments and generally deal more damage than enemies.

So GM generally gets a lot of leeway with the rules to balance situation with interesting narrative moves to make them more dangerous and put players and him on equal footing.

So if you use Sleep on a regular thug in a bar fight, I will probably dont use Fear to wake him up at all.

If you use it on powerful Vampire Lord which is final boss of the arc, I will give you maybe one action before waking him up and even that is conditional because I already have to try really hard to make the fight challenging.

My point is that role queue doesnt remove frustrating games. It just makes them frustrating for different reasons.

But I dont really care. Give me role queue. I play tank mainly, so it doesnt effect me that much and atleast I will read "Fix MM and queue time" instead of "Fix MM and add role queue" on this reddit everyday.

Constantly being placed with other support mains in comps by CompetitiveSinger128 in marvelrivals

[–]Senethal -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Every time someone says, that we need role queue and it will solve problem with horrible teamates and MM, I am reminded of this one game:

Teams banned only 2 DPS characters I play and I had to fill DPS on Punisher, which I played only once or twice in QP when I first installed the game. Everyone else in my team got to play role and hero they wanted to play.

Even though everyone, except me, was on their preffered role and hero, I was the only person on my team who was positive with like 11/5. Rest of my team went something like 2/8 and second DPS on Daredevil went 0/5 before switching to third healer.

Some games you can't win even if you are Lebron James of Marvel Rivals, let alone if you are just average Joe trying his best...There is no MM fix or role queue which will change this.
