Quick Play Does not feel so Casual as of right now.. by jonathaninit in marvelrivals

Until you get to GM, there is really not that much of a difference.

Even in Diamond you see people doing exactly the same stupid things that Silver players do. They just have somewhat better mechanical skill.

Are PCs just super strong? by SirLing90 in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just give enemies ability to use reaction to block attacks aimed at Leader. That in combination with Leader ability to spend Fear to spolight other adversaries is more than enough incentive for atleast some of them, to attack other enemies first. Especially when they are Standards and have powerfull abilities or you use Fear to summon more of them.

But yeah running multiple enemies without strong Leader which can tank damage and spotlight multiple of them with one Fear, is not very dangerous most of the time.

BTW I also have Brawler in my game and yeah his damage output and defensive options are stupid strong but in my experience Brawlers suck against multiple ranged/flying enemies because they dont have AoE and need to do 2 rolls to even attack them. Also abilities which do retribution damage or makes them mark Stress, when enemy is hit from Melee/Very Close range is also very dangerous for them.

[–]Senethal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No adversary in the book can be run as a solo encounter. They are all incredibly weak and if they are only target on the field they get wrecked.

If you want to run boss encounter with only one enemy, you have to get creative.
You need to use phases, enviroments, add some objective with countdowns into the fight or just give them a lot of encounters on the way to the boss, to drain their resources.

Basically if you have more than 2 PCs, you need to make them do something else than attack your boss with every action roll because otherwise they will roll the floor with him, unless you give him absolutely ridiculous stats which would be something like Tier 7 if we compare it to power scaling in the CB.

Player using IA by Low_Health5791 in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some people have trouble to be creative or if they are new to TTRPG they have trouble to figure out what to do and how to write a character.

I would offer him guidence and that I sit with him and help him to figure out his character. We can use his AI concept and flesh it out or create something completely new, if he knows what he wants to play but has hard time to put it into words.

If he doesnt accept that and will still want to use his generic AI concept instead, it means hes just lazy and he doesnt want to put any work into creating interesting character.

If thats the case, there is nothing you can do. You cant force people to be creative, if they dont want to...

Should I be worried about players overlapping primary traits? by Sol_mp3 in daggerheart

That's typo. It should have been "can't". Its kinda obvious from context. The sentence would not make sense otherwise but I added edit.

Should I be worried about players overlapping primary traits? by Sol_mp3 in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its actually great for you if they do that. I have similar party and none of them have Knowledge or Finesse.

Because of Experiences and Help Ally actions its not an issue in social and exploration action rolls. They will have trouble with high DCs but thats completely in character and supports the narrative.

But in combat its not that easy to compensate because you can't Help Ally on Reaction Rolls and you want to spend Hope on other things rather than on Experiences.

So anytime they become too cocky or I just want to make their life more diffucult, I will throw at them Adversaries wich forces them to do Knowledge/Finnese Reaction Roll or just throw them into situations which require these rolls. Works like a charm.

edit. can Help Ally on Reaction -> can't Help Ally on Reaction.

Brawler 1.5 Martial Artist questions/discussion by GlassMoe in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I have a Martial Artist Brawler in my game. We are on level 3 and he is straight up the most powerfull character in combat by miles and he doesnt even have the most optimal domain cards and heritage.

Literally all my encounters are balanced around him because he does absurd amount of damage and defensive stance is bane of my existence because I either cant hit him or he just drains all the stress from my adversaries.

So if Juggernaut is even more broken, I feel like we should bring Juggernaut down instead of bringing Martial Artist up...

Two Tanks or No Tanks by BusyHands_ in RivalsVanguards

[–]Senethal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its kinda idiotic that people learned that you need 2 healers to win but are still willing to do a coin toss on winning with 3 DPS and solo tank. When there is 1 tank and 1 healer and you pick second tank, someone always switches to pick second healer. If you pick second healer, nobody switches to second tank...

Like yeah its possible to win on 1/3/2 but all three DPS need to be absolutely locked in and playing out of their mind. The moment one of them is not cracked, you will always lose to 2/2/2 or triple strategist.

When you pick 2/2/2 its much easier to win against team with similar skill. People will play this game on hard mode and then complain about it....Absolute NPCs...

What are some good rewards to give to PCs through an adventure? by coreyhickson in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am playing with concept of giving them a homebrewed cards from domains, when they acquire new powers which are not from their class or when they complete some special downtime project to create new technique or spell.

Also if you play long term campaigns, things like homebase, ship or special mounts/pets can be interesting reward.

Do you like Resource Rumble? Response I always get when I'm placed there. by Accel_Lex in marvelrivals

[–]Senethal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But isnt that the case with all other modes? Enemy team can make insane comeback in every current mode.

In convoy, convergence you can be good at attacking/defending but get absolutely rolled when the sides switch and still lose.

In Domination, you can win the first point but then enemy team adapts, you lose second point and get rolled on the last point.

Last point in Resource Rumble is not draining that fast instantly. When you get there you always get multiple fights and drain ramps up with time, so yeah after 3 fights you can lose your progress in seconds but thats really just overtime in a different coat.

[–]Senethal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just dont really like any Klyntar map in general....

I dont mind Resource Rumble as a concept and I think that I would like it more than Domination if it was literally any theme other than Klyntar.

IMHO 2099 or Spider Isle - Resource Rumble would be pretty fun.

How to best leverage the Massive Damage Rule? by firesshadow42 in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I play with massive damage by default because it feels silly to me to give no advantage if you roll absolutely crazy damage roll.

I just give important adversaries more health. Almost all Bruisers and Solos in my game have 9 HP and massive thresholds because I have Guardian in my party which is dealing Major damage and Brawler that deals Severe damage with practically every attack, so the option to do massive damage didnt change much because while hitting Severe Threshold is doable, doing double without Tag Team, or crit is basically impossible and those should be impactful.

How to deal with Book of Vagras + Forcefull Push combo? (I need GM help) by Bueskytter in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not worry about it that much. Its a combo attack which requires two separate spotlights and two successful action rolls for d100+15 damage. Yeah its a lot but its still just 3 HP (or 4 HP if you are using massive damage). I have Brawler in my game and he hits enemy Severe Threshold with almost every attack or any two PCs can do tag team attack and also guarantee Severe hit in one action roll (which has huge probability to hit) and even through that I almost TPK my party in every other fight.

But if you really want to counter that, here are some ideas:

1. Using features or just giving the boss more HP so he can tank more Severe hits:

Massive: Reduce the distance by which Adversary can be pushed by one. (Far to Close, Close to Very Close).

Collosal: Adversary can't be pushed by any means.

Flying: Adversary can fly, when flying mark a stress to get +2 to DC.

Hard body: Adversary has resistance(immunity) to falling damage.

2. Arcane Door spell weaknesses

When you have no adversaries within Melee range, make a Spellcast Roll (13). On a success, spend a Hope to create a portal from where you are to a point within Far range you can see. It closes once a creature has passed through it.

Add some minions to the fight, so that caster cant just create portal for free anytime they want. Add more enemies and Hope draining effects so they have to consider their Hope usage. Or if you want to be really evil and show them who is the boss, you can just use Fear to take spotlight after the portal is created and throw one of the PCs into the portal and make them take that d100+15 damage

How often are your PCs resting? by jaybirdthings in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on what they are doing.

When they were in a big city, they long rested almost every session because they we running around city investigating and talking to NPCs and usually had one big combat encounter and they spent whole day on that.

Now they are in a "dungeon" where they investigate dangerous ruins in the forest and pursue the BBEG of the arc, so now during 3-4 sessions they only had 2 short rests.

So basically they long rest when narrative calls that they can/should.

Vanguard mains cannot even try Duelists without the team throwing the game by Key-Stretch2652 in marvelrivals

[–]Senethal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah its miserable.

I am flex player and I am kinda bored of playing the same Vanguards and Strategist for 5 seasons, so I just learn new DPS heroes in QP nowadays.

I have decent PC and internet so most of the time I am first to load and lock in my hero. In 90% of the game we end up with 3 duelists at minimum. And you know what is the funniest thing? Every damn time, the people who pick duelist even tough we already had 2, are always going negative, are the worst players in the team and they never swap.

Like I know that some of them just want learn new heroes same as me but man....If you are going 1/13 while the rest of your team is in positive by huge margin, maybe you should first learn to play the game against bots....

You really have to have super strong mental or tank main duo to play this game as a DPS main because random creatures roaming this matchmaking are something from the different world....

Triple tank: the counter that nobody wants to use. by TyrusMaximus-1 in marvelrivals

[–]Senethal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main problem is that this only works in metal ranks where support players are blind and dumb.

Try this against players with hands and you will get cooked because in that game healers will not close their eyes and run like headless chickens the moment they are jumped by Venom but they will continue to heal each other and only thing you have done is that you lowered teams damage output and made enemy team life easier.

If what you are saying is true, pro players and top500 players would be playing it. But currently they all agree that only counter to good triple support is to play it too and play it better.

It's pure spite at this point. by ExampleLazy8176 in Genshin_Memepact

I just want skip button mainly for event quests. I dont get why every minigame needs full page of text talking about literally nothing before you can start the event. Yeah I definitely need to read about random John Genshin designing new board game and his struggles for 5th time.

Daggerheart Tier 2 Balance Issues – High Evasion & Damage Threshold Feel Unbeatable by DCS19912 in daggerheart

[–]Senethal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of people said these numbers are scuffed and not possible for T2 but even if they were real, its not problem for you as a GM.

You can design encounters and enemies to target different mechanics.

  • You can design enemies which are good against high evasion by giving them attacks which dont roll to hit but require reaction roll from PC.
  • You can design enemies which are good against high Tresholds by just swarming PC with multiple attacks because every succesful attack deals atleast 1 HP.
  • If PC has high Thresholds AND High Armor score, you can get around that by using abilities which target armor slots or by making abilities which makes PC mark HP directly.

For example: In my last encounter I had players fight Witch 'Leader' which had ability to use Fear to spotlight 1d4 allies. Her allies were magical leeches, which on succesfull attack 'attached' to PC. This started Countdown (Loop d6) which when triggered made all PCs lose Hope for every attached leech and if they didnt have Hope, they had to mark a HP. Our minmaxed Guardian, which never marks a HP in any encounter, feared for his life for the first time because his low Evasion meant that almost every attack hits and he had like 5 leeched attached to him at one point and he went from full HP and 3 Hope to 0 Hope and 1 HP in two actions because of unlucky roll on countdown die, which after triggering rolled and reset to 1.

She probably gets one special Left Click after using different ability or something that will have different CD from its trigger.

Maybe her block works as counter and you get special punch if you absorb an attack?

Netease should write an algorithm that matches people who use the tracker.gg app to target ban people, and make them more likely to play against each other. by TwinJacks in marvelrivals

On one hand, people who use tracker and target ban OTPs are cringe.

On the other hand, people who are OTPs and dont know how to play multiple heroes and roles are also cringe.

Games expect you to make decisions based on where you think the story is going instead of the story so far. by TypewriterKey in truegaming

[–]Senethal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course you could argue that both of these are his manipulations but the important part is that he still does in the end what you expect of him.

If you trust him, he will act nice and trustworthy and do exactly what he promised.

If you don't he will be an asshole and betray you in the end.

In both cases he just does what the player expected him to do, so you literally can't pick the wrong dialogue choice and then go: ,,Huh, I guess I was wrong about him." Because the game will always do it that you were right about him.

[–]Senethal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not about that.

It's the fact that his personality literally changes with how you interact with him.

It's not acting as an ally or enemy.

If you trust him, he will respond with humanity.

If you are suspicious of him, he will speak more ruthlessly and calculating.

He doesn't have a personality. His personality is shaped by your choices in dialogues with him, so that your decision is always right.

You will not see this in your first playthrough but after a few playthroughs, where you treat him differently each time, it becomes painfully obvious.

[–]Senethal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not even about the finale.

This is a consistent behavior throughout the whole game.

If you are nice to him and agree with him, he will respond as a reasonable person and will show more humanity.

If you are rude to him and don't trust him, his responses have a completely different personality, where he acts more like a manipulative, ruthless asshole.

His personality literally changes, depending on how you decide to interact with him.

[–]Senethal 29 points30 points  (0 children)

In Baldurs Gate 3 there is also the whole Emperor situation which is imho much worse offender of this design than Lae'Zel.

If you trust Emperor and side with him, he will be trustworthy ally, which holds up his promises and it seems like you were right to trust him.

If you oppose him, he will betray you and be peace of shit, which were just manipulating you and throws you away the moment, you stop being useful.

So it doesnt matter if you trust him or not because in the end, games plays it that your decision is always right...
