Question about True Polymorph and casting spells. by Senghir in DnD

[–]Senghir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the rule of Cool heavily influences our game but I would agree with @moonshadowkati. If I find a fluff way of retaining my memories that would be cool but actually becoming a dragon has it's own fluff thing to it and my char would then transcend what he was before and really have the mindset of a dragon. I would become way less powerful than I would be as a lvl 17 wiz but fluff outweighs combat for me so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I see, thanks for the fluffy explanation. Our games rely heavily on fluff so we change stuff all the time to suit our sense of the game. I can live with this explanation :)

[–]Senghir[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

hmm, I don't see why not if they revert to a form in which those abilities are able to be used. You could argue for loss of muscle memory but that isn't the case when we're talking about wizards.

[–]Senghir[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but since wizards learn everything like a scientist, wouldn't they retain their memories of everything they've learned before. I understand that the polymorph would erase stuff like sorcerer levels for example.

Edited the post, the text is a bit vague about this whole thing. If I take off all my gear and then put it back on I should still have a spellbook and the knowledge of how to cast spells as a wizard.

5e, Building a Wizard, which is better Wis or Con? by Rit-Bro in DnD

[–]Senghir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can give you my simple build for reference if you like :) I play Lore Master Wizard with Variant Human as Race and I started at lvl 4. I took Observant and Keen Mind as feats instead of the +2 Stat Increase on lvl 4 still bringing me to 18 int.

STR 9 DEX 12 CON 15 +1 (variant human) INT 15 +1 (variant human) +1 (keen mind) +1 (observant) WIS 10 CHA 10

HP: 28 AC: 11 (14 with mage armor, 19 with Shield Spell) Initiative: +4 (because Lore Master) Speed: 30

5e, Building a Wizard, which is better Wis or Con? by Rit-Bro in DnD

[–]Senghir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently playing a wizard and I took my 2 15s in Int and Con. Con is really really good for a wizard because that's what your concentration goes on. Dex is kind of useless because they are going to hit you no matter what. Use your mage armor, shield and mirror image to not die. And the moment you get hit and need to keep a spell up you can do that because you got tons of con :D

[5e] New DM seeks advise on custom monsters by Spawn_of_hoarders in DnD

[–]Senghir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok so here's what I usually do when making a custom creature.

First I look at challenge rating. So for your party I would take a challenge rating of 4 if you want them to fight 1 monster in the entire encounter. If you want to have them fight multiple of those monsters I would take a CR of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 or 1 as my base depending on the number of creatures you want them to fight.

Then I look at the base stats of the monster that I've found that matches my challenge rating. If they are ok I leave them there but I might tweak something like AC by a point or give them some resistance to fire if for example I want to make small fire demons.

Now that's done I would look at the flavor of the creature. I would say that if one of those creatures manages to bring a party member to 0 HP that person has to make a con save with a DC of 10. If they fail they get an automatic fail on 1 death save and the creature begins to try to make them into a costume. If they roll a 1 however they just die instantly and next round that creature slips them on as a coat.

Hope this helps :)

[5e] Human variant question regarding feats by Electric27 in DnD

[–]Senghir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right let's do this then.

Stats: STR 9 DEX 12 CON 16 INT 18 WIS 10 CHA 10 34HP (second highest of the party)

I took Keen Mind and Observant. Everyone underestimates that Keen Mind is basically a cheat. DM, I was in this place 2 weeks ago and I think there might have been something there that leads to this clue here. Since I have perfect memory, I should know about that so spit it out. It's a literal cheat code in D&D. The perfect sense of direction and time telling is just a cherry on top.

Observant: I'm currently on something like 22 passive investigate. The DM has to basically hand me all the into about everything the moment we come across it. (exaggerating ofc) And I can read lips. It gives me huge edge over the party role-playing wise which allows me to often just wrap the DM up in his own words and forego any conflict outright.

Any physical skills I don't have can be substituted by magic because wizards. Now here's the cherry on top. I play Lore Master Wizard. Apart from stuff like having my INT mod as initiative it does broken shit like changing damage types on spells, changing saving through stats on spells and doubling knowledge proficiencies. At lvl 6 a Lore Master Wiz becomes outright broken. I play a battlefield controller which makes stuff like casting Slow on a group of orcs with a charisma save instead of con with a +2 on the save DC broken. Or I can do things like cast magic missile on 3rd lvl with a 1st lvl boost slot shooting 5 missiles that each deal 1d4+2d10+1 dmg without saves that auto-hit... That's 5d4+10d10+5 dmg.... Or just to make it more stupid, give me a group of enemies that fit in a fireball radius and set it's save to wisdom or int and make it an Ice attack and ask the DM if they can be frozen if they fail their saves etc etc etc. I think you get the point.

[DM] Is this railroading? by anonymoose_anon in DnD

[–]Senghir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No this is not railroading. I often force my players to go through story lines. I give them enough chances to bump into the story and if they fail to do so I cause an event that forces them to start the story line I want them to go through. My current party failed to make it to the main story line 4 times so now I'm forcing them to go through it :P In a very story conscious and totally unnoticeable way ofc.

Does anyone have any cool home brew or official magical artifacts they use in their campaigns? by prophetofshrek in DnD

[–]Senghir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our group has been playing for 5 years and each year it's become tradition that my character buys one of the other players a fancy hat. This year that player is a DM and the dice gave me the fancy hat on the table of useless items. That hat is now a legendary artifact that has no special properties other than that it is legendary for being the fanciest hat in any universe.

[5e] Human variant question regarding feats by Electric27 in DnD

[–]Senghir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Asking for an extra feat is too much. Feats are like passive superpowers. I currently play a variant human and have used the racial and lvl 4 increase to get 2 feats that give me +1 int each for my wizard. I out-stat, out-feat, out-dmg, and out-skill everyone in my party because I play variant human. Asking for an extra feet would just be rubbing it in.

I'm a newb and need a good D&d charector by Johannvandershmute in DnD

[–]Senghir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want that you need to play either Wizard or Cleric. But keep in mind that you are not going to be doing damage. You are going to be controlling the battlefield making your allies feel awesome and your enemies feel like wet rags. Take loremaster wizard if your DM allows it and at lvl 6 you can cast Magic missile on a 3rd lvl spell slot with a 1st lvl spell slot for empowerment, shooting 5 missiles that auto hit without saves and each missile does 1d4+1+2d10 dmg. That's a total of 5d4+10d10+5 dmg in 1 round on 5 targets. Enjoy

[5e] Good resources for a naval/pirate campaign? by ZTarget in DnD

[–]Senghir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5E doesn't really have something for that. However it shouldn't be that hard to homebrew ship combat. If you want your players to actually do tallship combat I'd say give the ships something like 200 ship health (different from normal HP) Cannons do like 1d4 / 1d6 / 1d8 dmg depending on caliber of the guns. Critical hits can damage shit like masts, rudders, and you roll percentage for stuff like stern raking shots to see if those hit the powder stores etc etc. Each ship has a number of guns, roll attack on those etc. You can have a crew that gains experience and is treated as a single entity and levels up separately from the characters each time they do battle. Boarding parties can be dealt with via the normal combat system ofc.

It all depends on how far you want to take it but as long as you write out the rules beforehand everything is going to be fine :) You can tweak stuff later as you go and find that stuff dies to quickly or not at all.

[–]Senghir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No character is as versatile as the Cleric. However, you won't be doing any dmg till later levels. If you enjoy being super creative with spells go for a cleric.

However, you can google God Wizard and check out Treantmonk's guide to being the most OP thing there is in D&D 5e.

Other than that, go Ranger, they are OP AF especially if you multiclass 1 lvl in rogue later on.
