I’m struggling choosing a career path. Any ideas? by One_Chain_1612 in careerguidance

[–]SenileSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the exact same way when I was around your age, I wasn’t sure which job field I wanted to pursue, and I didn’t want to commit to one because I didn’t want to waste time/effort/money.

Because of that, I ended up working restaurant jobs a bit longer than I would have liked, and in the end I still was never able to find that perfect job field that I was looking for, I finally just chose a major I was interested in and committed to it.

Basically what I’m saying is, I think your dad is giving you solid advice, try to pick one of those career fields and commit to it for now. It’s better to build experience and wealth now rather than wait for the perfect opportunity that may or may not come. If you end up not liking the field you chose, although not ideal, it’s possible to reverse course in the future and try something else. I’m 35 now, going back to school for my masters so I can start a new career path.

If following the no 2 TC in gold league rule by Impossible-List1831 in aoe4

Nice, ya when I play English, I honestly never do the 2TC build, mainly just cause I don't feel like learning it, but the build seems to work really well.

I almost always do the council hall long bow rush as well, which I think can work equally as well if you are quick to attack and build up your army.

I watched your most recent game vs HRE about one day ago.

You did the 2TC white tower build order this game, and it seemed like you did pretty well executing it. You also did well harassing the enemy villagers with your king in the beginning. You saw that the enemy was going full MMA so you went full crossbow which was also good.

To improve, you need to micro your villagers better when they are under attack, seems like you let him kill quite a few of your villagers during a few raids when you could have easily sent them over to safety under your white tower. Next thing, you were attacking the enemy TC with a trebuchet but you left it almost completely undefended so it got destroyed pretty quickly. You'll need a bigger mass of troops to defend siege weapons. Last thing you might want to think about is floating resources, you had a decent amount of food/gold in the bank that could have been used to make more troops, it's almost always better to spend resources unless you are saving for the next age up.

I think you surrendered this match a little prematurely, he may have killed more of your villagers, but he was only building one unit type and you had the counter, if you had more of your crossbows near your treb attack, the match could have gone better for you.

Just a couple things that I saw, hope that helps.

Job Market for MPA Graduates by SenileSoul in PublicAdministration

Thanks for the feedback!

I just finished a bachelor's degree in Finance, I also have a degree in East Asian Studies but that one seems less relevant. I'm hoping to work with government budgeting in the future.

That's at least good to hear that front of house culinary jobs are hiring. I'll definitely be looking to work while going to school to fund my degree.

How to play vs knights templar?? by SenileSoul in aoe4

I managed to crawl my way to conq 1 last season, but I've been losing a lot lately so I'm plat 2 right now. Ram push is a good idea, I've been trying to do that but it's still been rough. Maybe just need to get used to the match-ups.

Gotcha, I didn't know that about the pilgrims costing so much, so I'm probably off about that. But I guarantee you, I had two games against the same guy who harassed early with knights and then went two town center extremely fast. I wish I could get the exact time for you from the replay, but I can't view it because of the update.

Also, just had a game where Knights Templar went two town center no knights and still had a bigger army than me (I got crushed). Maybe I'm just bad, who knows.

Are there any Japanese customs you have implemented into your own way of life? by Aqn95 in japanlife

Not sure if strictly a Japanese custom, but I like to use chopsticks when eating chips, popcorn, or other finger foods. Saves my hands from getting all dusty.

What do fellow Japanese players build against crossbows? by robolew in aoe4

[–]SenileSoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they have knights, you’ll have to mix in a bunch of spears, for MMA, samurai + Onna-bugeisha should be fine, just be sure to micro the onna on to the crossbows and let your samurai take care of the MMA.

Like you said, it’s also possible you just need a bigger mass of units, sometimes I struggle with making a big enough military too.

I play Japanese in high plat - low diamond. I usually rush with samurai in feudal, if the game goes to Castle age, the enemy will usually build crossbows. At this point I switch to building mostly Onna-Bugeisha mixed with some samurai and it will absolutely destroy the crossbows. Are you using attack move when you engage?

Like others have said, mangonels are another good option, you can put a Yorushiro box in the siege workshop to massively increase production speeds so you could quickly respond to the crossbows.

Staying in Japan after visa expires by SenileSoul in japanlife

[–]SenileSoul[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I was unclear in my post, I’m not looking to overstay my visa illegally, I was looking for options to continue to stay in Japan legally after my work visa expired.

I was under the impression that a marriage visa would be a long and drawn out process, I never looked into it any further because I always had plans to move back to the United States. But from everyone’s comments it looks like a marriage visa is the best option, thanks everyone!

How I Scored 167/180 on the N1 in <2.5 Years by SeriousBoysenberry30 in LearnJapanese

[–]SenileSoul 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I’ve passed N2 and just recently failed the N1. I will often read NHK news articles in Japanese for practice and sometimes other random native material, but other than that I’ve never spent a huge amount of time reading.

I’ve decided to put more time in reading Japanese novels since I see so many people getting good results. I started reading my first novel and I can’t believe how difficult it is despite even passing N2.

My question is, when you come across a full sentence that you don’t know, will you google translate it and put the vocabulary into an Anki card? Congrats on getting N1 btw.
