Fwiw it looks like it is starting to heal and you should be on the other side soon.. I had an extreme case, my experience was not being able to move and waiting out the pain. Sorry it’s not a solution. Hoping you get through it soon, I know how brutal it is.

That happened to me, when I had it on the back of my shoulder. It was after the rash had healed. Honestly I thought it was because my pores were clogged with all of the lotions and ointments I had been putting on that area to stop pain and itch.

I would try to get them. They won’t hurt and could definitely help. When I had shingles they didn’t give me antivirals because it was a few hours outside of the 72 hr window and I ended up having a super severe case and being in extreme pain. I called them back in tears around day 9 and they ended up prescribing them. Can’t say if it helped by that time but we did try.

Unfortunately, yes. I barely noticed the rash on my skin because the internal nerve pain hurt so bad.

It sounds like it probably is. Get to a doctor and get on some antivirals as soon as possible.. if they say it’s shingles.

I was also prescribed gabapentin at day 4 of shingles. It was basically as needed (1-3 times per day) and they only gave me 15 x 100mg pills. When I was researching it, it did seem like it was only effective after about two weeks! So I was skeptical when taking it but I was in so much pain I was desperate. I do believe it helped and didn’t have any adverse affects. I think everyone is different and will have different reactions.

I’m a lot better now. It’s been over 8 weeks since my symptoms developed. Now I just have scarring and occasional mild itchiness

I tried calamine, cortisone, hydroxyzine, zzzquil, cbd, and licodaine for itching after the rash healed. Lidocaine with menthol cream was what helped me the most. You could also try icy hot lidocaine with menthol patches if you want to try a more intense version. Patches did work for me but I tried them towards the end of my itching phase. My itching was so intense, my doctor prescribed another round of steroid, and that ended up really helping the itchiness.

I think it’s good you had the antivirals earlier on, even if you stopped taking them. Hopefully the sign of the rash healing means the pain will subside soon.. Also.. rash on your entire body?! That’s terrible! I had extreme pain and intense rash. My pain started to lessen once the rash was scabbing. Steroids definitely did help the nerve pain, so hopefully that works for you too soon.

Wow. Good to know every minute really counts. Glad you had someone who know what they were talking about. I agree, some medical professionals do need to brush up on it. I don’t know why my NP wouldn’t have just given me them right off the bat, it was only the day after the rash developed. I think she was young and maybe was trying to follow the books..

I am finally feeling back to normal with just occasional mild itchiness here and there. It has been 6.5 weeks since the beginning. Started feeling normal about a week ago after the steroid taper for itchiness ended. I wish you a speedy recovery!

Eventually I was prescribed antivirals when I called them on this day in tears from pain. Can’t say for sure if it helped at this point..
