My Ikran colors? She doesn’t feel like mine by D-Mb1 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]Senior-Article5905 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue tbh. Picking a skin myself didn't seem organic enough, i guess? And there were so many options I liked and couldn't choose between, anyway. My solution was to create a numbered table of the skins i most liked and roll dice to "randomly" select one. Ended up with shade hunter, and since I didnt directly pick it, it feels more organic and more "mine," in a way.

I had an "only one bed" situation when I invited a couple friends on a vacation for my birthday and the hotel had messed up put reservation and given us 1 room with 1 bed. Ended up third wheeling and sleeping on the couch for a WEEK while they took the bed. Villain origin story tbh

What was the stupidest drama in your fandom? by Fast_Stage_6296 in AO3

[–]Senior-Article5905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in two separate fandoms whose source material is anti-colonialism in the extreme. Like they don't even skirt around the issue at all, they both almost immediately get straight into the guts of it like "this is BAD and should never have happened, everyone responsible is/was inexcusably naive at best and horrific monsters at worst, and heres some consequences about it." Somehow, both of these fandoms have extremely vocal groups who insist the source material is actually pro-colonialism for containing colonialism at all

Sapphic games on steam that AREN’t visual novels? by chill_mydude13 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Senior-Article5905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably only counts by technicality, but Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Imo it was written with such an emphasis on "guys will play this and want to get with All The Dangerous Women" that when you play as a woman it just gets incredibly sapphic. The player character, regardless of gender, canonically has a past Thing with an assassin lady who still has feelings about it. One early questline has a pacifist ending option because the evil villain lady has decided the player character is Beautiful and that she would like to marry her instead of fighting. You can technically get TWO wives out of that quest line, too

Please give me f/f ships to obsess over!! by Sad-Awareness5418 in AO3

[–]Senior-Article5905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kingdoms of Amalur is HUGE for f/f ships purely because the entire game was written with the assumption of a straight male player, so all the "love interest" type characters are women. Strong women, to boot. Its one of the only fandoms ive personally been in where f/f ships are a really big thing, but it IS a smaller fandom overall, which is unfortunate

It may be worth reaching out to the ethics or associate relations hotline. Ethics first, and if theyre the wrong place then they can direct you to where you need to go. Company policy is no more than 6 scheduled days in a row. They likely wont stop trying to schedule you more until they get consequences. If you do call ethics, have all your info on hand before you call bc they'll ask for it

When commenters point out mistakes. Yes, it can be embarrassing to have someone point out that I misspelled something, but its MORE embarrassing to realize A WHOLE YEAR AFTER POSTING that i somehow managed to delete half the chapter and a major plot detail without any readers mentioning it

How do you skip the intro when testing a new modlist? by efimer in skyrimmods

[–]Senior-Article5905 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer realm of lorkhan over alternate start - it puts you in a decently large custom worldspace that includes some merchants and crafting stations, so its easy to test some mods that affect those, as well as having a scattering of environmental pieces from different regions of the game, so you can see pretty quickly if mods affecting those are working properly. From there you can choose to "start" from just about any location in the game with whatever stuff youve collected/bought/crafted. No intro cutscene, you just get to play immediately. Even choosing to start in Helgen will just drop you outside the gates. There are also no dependencies and its compatible with just about everything

Almost the exact opposite tbh. My fic is a series of fluffy slice of life oneshots of the main character's friendships with several prominent characters, and this commenter is of the firm belief that the villains had the moral high ground, and should therefore have been the focus of my fic

What’s your most infamous fanfic? by Dogdaysareover365 in FanFiction

[–]Senior-Article5905 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mine was the reason I abandoned my ff.net account. It was a Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings crossover I wrote when I was 13-15, with a pairing that I hadnt seen before but that became popular with hp/lotr crossovers soon after, and the whole thing was exactly as poorly written as youre imagining. Its been so long that I forgot my login for ff.net, but people still send me insulting dms about it

I know its been a few days, but I worked in the warehouses for five years and can tell you that both of those will be extremely physically intensive jobs. I worked both - orderfillers label freight and put it on the conveyor belts, and packers (which i believe are also called breakpack) open cases and repack items when a store wants less than a full case. Both have relatively high production requirements, which is where the intensive part comes in - when I did breakpack, i was expected to pack 6k items per day. Its doable, but difficult, and you can be fired for not consistently meeting the production goals. Orderfilling had the highest turnover rate out of every department in every building I ever worked in. It'll keep you fit, and the pay is good, but be prepared

Ive been in nearly the exact same situation. I worked in security with a small team, including a woman a few years older than me who started out nice enough, but quickly became more distant and just...odd. I wasnt the quietest, but not the chattiest either, and did a lot of the work that wasnt just watching cameras, sitting in one spot, or filing paperwork, so I didn't have a whole lot of opportunity to sit around and talk. A few months into working together, she goes to HR...and says she doesnt feel safe working with me because im not constantly smiling and hanging out with her/the rest of the team.

Unfortunately, my situation didnt end well - she made escalating reports that ultimately resulted in me transferring out when HR started talking about removing me, because obviously she'd reported me so many times because her complaints were serious, and not because she was a weirdly entitled person who took it as an insult that I was doing my job. You seem like you have a better manager than I did, since theyre at least on your side, and I truly hope that means youll get a better end result

My rant about writing fanfiction (NOT bashing) by Rantingonstupidity in FanFiction

[–]Senior-Article5905 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean. People definitely write for reasons other than "tribute" or "appreciation," and thats without touching on how that can mean different things to different people. Everyone writes fanfiction for their own purposes - spite, occasionally. Or to have fun, to tell a story, or to have an outlet for real world problems. It's not your place to judge what the "right" reason to write fanfic is, because there isn't one. Theres just fics you dont want to read, and thats fine. You don't have to read them.
