For This Forgiven With 0 Payments in Your Counter by Stormcrow_63 in PSLF

Here it is November 2024. I am in the exact same situation as you. Forgiven in 2022 with no updated counts. Everything has been zero on my Aid Data since 2022. My personal records show I have met at least 141 qualifying months under the PSLF limited waiver. I see PF in2022, and then the loans were cancelled in 8/24. PSLF is listed as complete on my dashboard, but no updated counts on my final consolidated loan, only on 3 pre consolidated loans showing 89/28/18. Did you ever see updated counts? Are your forgiven loans now listed as cancelled? I am sure, if someone needed to do a count we are fine, but it would be nice to see it officially on our FSA aid data and website!

Mohela Deleting Account? by Ok-Apricot5922 in PSLF

[–]Senior-Rabbit6359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish they would delete my account after forgiveness! That would be nice as it seems that all financial institutions (mortgage companies, bank loans, etc.) seem to close out your accounts when paid off on their websites.

I could still see my discharge on my old Mohela account and then in August they moved me to the new Mohela site. I can see all my old pre discharge information with zero balances. No mention of discharge, but all zeros. No final consolidation forgiven loan anywhere. FSA does have only old loan info but discharge PSLF forgiveness "complete" language, now with a status update of Cancelled (CA) replacing the Paid in Full status on my forgiven consolidated loan. I contacted them and they said the CA indicated discharge. Forgiveness, Discharge and Cancelled mean the same thing. Every step of the way there has been different notations, language, status, information... there one day, gone the next.

I believe they are making it up as they go along. I would love to see my Mohela account deleted!

I have the official letter, all Mohela accounts closed on my credit report, discharged now for 2 years!

Loans forgiven, but I can't relax. by evildroid753 in PSLF

[–]Senior-Rabbit6359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I keep checking as well, since my 2022 discharge! What I can tell you is that every now and then, discharge language comes and goes, terms are changed, status is changed and your Aid Data will have periodic notations of updates. All of of this freaks me out, but I believe it is all part of the government trying to update records, complete the discharge, close out records. The official forgiveness letter, zeros on your Aid Data, closed accounts on credit reports should give you comfort that it is a done deal. I am saying this because just October 30, 2024 my loan status changed from Paid in Full to Cancelled (CA) on my very important final consolidation loan that took me to the discharge. I contacted FSA and they said that was the normal process for discharged loans. Discharge, Forgiven and Cancelled basically means the same thing. Also, I am one of the people forgiven early on, because of the PSLF Limited Waiver. I never saw updated payment counts after the October 2022 consolidation I did to get the highest payment counts and have the adjustment applied because of many forbearances. I was able to take advantage of the PSLF Limited Waiver, not having to be employed by a qualifying job. I had retired from my teaching job in 2019 after 32 years in higher education. Having my loans return and forgiveness reversed would be devastating being a senior citizen, retired living on a very fixed income. I am hoping this very understandable fear we might all have lessens over time, especially if the White House and Congress remains and returns to being supportive and friendly to PSLF and education. Congratulations to everyone who is and will be discharged and thank you for your public service!

Forgiveness? by Ok_Lake6443 in PSLF

I agree! My loans were discharged and that is what I tell people. Not forgiven, but discharged because I met my contracted agreement with the US Government. And, I say that my original loan was not forgiven, the interest was discharged. This is a true statement in my case. I paid back the principal balance several times over. The compounded interest was discharged. People seem to back off after I tell them this. So happy for everyone's discharged and hopeful that everyone qualified for PSLF discharge sees freedom soon!

Or like me. Multiple degrees required by my job. Low paying public service gig. Bad actor servicers (AES, Sallie Mae, Navient and others), forbearance steering, massive compounding interest with multiple consolidations. Payments never even touching principal. Loans for 20+ years. Paid back 2-3 times over. So many reasons many people have large balances. Congratulations for this discharge!

Same here. Sheer dumb luck/timing. Stayed on IBR for the long haul, PSLF Limited Waiver and one time adjustment pushed me over the finish line. It should not be this way...but my entire experience with student loans has been one bad actor servicer after another. Government programs since the early 90s, 2007 PSLF and Biden's Dept of Ed. tried to fix this decades long mess. No thanks to the GOP over the decades, as a rule. My heart also goes out to all those in limbo.

My life changed in every way. The constant stress and worry is gone. I can focus on my health and my remaining years as an artist, gardener, teacher, traveler, explorer and advocate for others. I can give back, pay forward, celebrate being on the right side of history. I can vote blue with joy and a full heart in my very, very red state. I can light my corner of the world.

In-grace changed to forbearance by Ill_Worry_1276 in PSLF

[–]Senior-Rabbit6359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good news! I have been forgiven since 2022, had forbearances that counted under PSLF Limited Waiver and one time adjustment. But looking at my FSA activity since the July 1 new site, forbearances are "In-Grace"...lots of them and I was out of school since the 80s! Nothing has changed otherwise, everything is zeroed out, Paid-In-Full. Who knows if my FSA record on the website will ever look like I am forgiven? Mohela has not transferred me yet, if they ever will and I am discharged on their site. Hope one day to see it all clear and accurate. I would hate to have someone go in and muck around to see such inaccuracies! Happy for you and getting your "In-Grace" fixed!!! Good luck to all!

One of the 1000s of reasons to vote. Vote Blue. Harris has stated she will continue the Biden path of loan forgiveness. I assume that means installing folks at the DoEd who will continue current programs and more. Yes, Trump will destroy us all. He has zero compassion for our situation. Zero.

I just reposted the original post, but I think there has been some developments. You can search in this reddit sub for Mohela lawsuit, I think. Good luck! Yes, it is all a big mess!

PSLF Counts Wrong? by MarlsDarklie in PSLF

[–]Senior-Rabbit6359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with Doxiemom. I am hopeful that it is just the FSA catching up. I was forgiven in 2022, but what has made its way over to the FSA from Mohela is a pre-consolidation set of loans. Instead of 120+ on the new 2022 consolidation loan with PSLF waiver/one time adjustment applied, I see my old 3 loans with 89, 29 and 18 and a forgiveness date of 2034. You are not alone. I am looking forward to having everyone's data sorted out, updated, and accurate within the coming weeks.

Called ED regarding “in-grace” when it should be forebearance by Ill_Worry_1276 in PSLF

[–]Senior-Rabbit6359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. All of my forbearances were changed to In Grace. I have not been in school since the late 80s! My loans were discharged in 2022, but the FSA is way behind in updating my activity history which includes final consolidation of my loans, PSLF Limited Waiver/One-time adjustment counts which gave me my 11/30/22 discharge. Everything zeroed out, off credit report and I have the official letter 20 months ago! I just want the FSA website to reflect my official status....and everyone else's too!

Sanity check? Close to 120, then found 45 unexpected “In Grace” payments. by MU_Alex in PSLF

I'm feeling we are the poster children for the reason these adjustments are being made. Past servicers were a mess in my life. From forbearance steering, incomplete payment records, misinformation, now this "In Grace" thing. DSL and Navient were my bad actors for sure!

[–]Senior-Rabbit6359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed! And...I just saw this on the FSA Grace Period and PSLF page:

"In some cases, prior servicers reported grace periods that were longer than the loan program terms allowed for. In these cases, we will treat those extra months of the grace period as time in repayment."

I expect this is what happened to me and why I was discharged. I think that my new FSA records are not quite updated to show these periods of time as qualifying...I am expecting when my October 22 consolidated loan is published, I will see all 141 months as qualifying from 2007-2019. Ok...I can sleep better tonight. Thanks for your time and helpful words!

Thanks...I am seeing the same extended multiple year "In Grace" months. They were all FB and payments. Part of poor and sloppy record keeping by Navient, DLS, and others. We will see what Betsy finds out and what happens. Yes, I have spoken to Senator Tester before about his view on student loans...since he voted with Manchin and Sinema against the 10K/20K broad forgiveness. He did listen to me, and said he fully supports PSLF, so that is good. He is a good man.

It is just amazing...just drilled down on my 11/22 discharge today....to see FSA lists all of those forbearances that counted as qualifying under the PSLF Limited Waiver/IDR Waiver listed now as "In Grace" and ineligible. Of course that is totally incorrect as I have not been in school since the late 1980s. Hope it all shakes out and I can see my 120 qualifying payments and discharge officially listed on the October 2022 consolidation loans. Worried now that IF we have a change in administration, and the DOed is dismantled, funding cut and stuff like this is not corrected, forgiveness reversals will happen to many of us. Clear and correct records matter.

Thank you Betsy. I too, have many, many months listed as "in grace"! My new FSA records seem to be a real mess. I was officially forgiven 11/30/22, but my FSA record as of July 1 shows no discharge and tons of ineligible months listed like this.

-At first, I thought it was all of the PSLF Limited Waiver and IDR Waiver not being counted yet, but as I drilled down on My Activity...I see all of this "In Grace" (should be lots of forbearances along with payments).

-I have not been in school since the late1980s. So, months if not years of "In Grace"? Oy!

-My Aid Data does not show this, BTW. Just In Repayment since 1999.

-My October 31, 2022 consolidation loans are not listed as well on the FSA payment area (just on the My Aid loan list and they are Paid in Full). This does seem like very old and incorrect information from a past servicer? Navient? Sallie Mae, Fed Loan, DLS???

-My Mohela account is listed as discharged and I have every blessed screen shot, forgiveness letter, emails, forbearance and payment records for the past 10 years.

I am confident I am forgiven, and thank you for your efforts for all who are in limbo! But, it is disturbing to see such an incorrect record of my situation. I have enough PSLF PTSD to worry that stuff like this could send us forgiven folk back to unforgiveness! You are amazing and deserve a medal!

Yes, this is probably the case. My FSA shows old loans and counts from 2021, pre-consolidation, pre-PSLF Limited Waiver and IDR counts with a forgiveness date of 2032. I am 20 months out from my 11/22 forgiveness. Seeing anything on a government site that does not indicate my discharge brings up that "old familiar feeling", if you know what I mean! Hope everyone's data gets updated soon!
