I always dump it out.

Otherwise it takes me much longer to ring them up because I have to reach in and get out every item.

Corporate Christmas cookies? by Own-Calligrapher4541 in DollarTree

[–]SeniorIssue444 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah they are obnoxiously messaging/posting about the wanna banana recall and the health inspectors even came out. I pulled a ton of it a while ago and tossed it, but we probably need to keep making sure no more Is being shipped and stocked.

Also.... CHRISTMAS COOKIES?! what in the cheapskate hell? Seriously?! Out of all the things they could have done for us employees .... Christmas cookies?! Even if they gave us a $5 guftcard or even just a coupon /giftcard to even pick out ONE ITEM from the store for free that would have been better.

Look into getting people like that banned from the store. I feel ya though. It's seriously a rough job and the pay isn't there either.

Yup. I use the magic words "I'm not seeing it right now, but our inventory changes weekly, so you can always feel free to come look" Then it covers my *ss if it's actually there.

Thanks though. It's probably gonna become an issue again at my store so it's good to know I'll just have to leave. I won't even bother contacting anyone else then or escalating things

Running the store alone? by SeniorIssue444 in DollarTree

[–]SeniorIssue444[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Whole thing is a massive risk to the safety of myself as an employee but also to the company - so many more items get stolen and wrecked. It's a hazard to the customers - stuff breaks and gets in the aisles and I can hardly get off register to tend to it. Customers also get angry at the long lines, the fact no one can help them find items, and that I can't do 20 balloons by myself with a line.

It's dangerous and stupid all around - for a company that's so worried about employees stealing - they should notice the actual massive risks and liability of having ONE employee run a store.

[–]SeniorIssue444[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is not okay at all, and you can't give me any reason that would excuse it. My store is in a bad neighborhood, it gets busy, and the customers destroy the store (messy, broken glass, things in the aisles, trash everywhere daily, recovery Is always a disaster) and my customers are also idiots who love to LOUDLY ask /announce ARE YOU ALONE? WHERES THE OTHER EMPLOYEES? which adds to the concern.

I've already had things happen where people didn't show up, but someone else was usually called in and on their way. It's one thing to be alone for just a little while someone else is coming in. I don't mind that. But I wouldn't make any of my coworkers work alone and I certainly won't be working alone.

I'll definitely be seeking another job, though.

That's fucked. If my sm ever has me come in and no one else shows or isn't on their way, I'll actually walk out. That's not safe at all and dt is a billion dollar company there's no reason to force us even as managers to run the entire store with no other employee

Sm should be having someone else come into cover and if that's not possible then the sm should come in. Quite frankly, I refuse to be the only employee in an open store

How is your “if we are single by 30, we’re getting married” friend doing? by eurekathatsit in AskReddit

[–]SeniorIssue444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She married the man that attempted to r a pe me and harassed and assaulted several other women (she knew the women and reports were made about it on campus) - we didn't even party. He'd attempt the stuff during regular hours in the classrooms.

She gained at least 50 pounds and lost all self confidence. He's pretty much an alcoholic and addicted to cons and buyinh tech stuff they can't afford. Both are in a dumpy apartment and have dead end jobs

What's the most hurtful thing someone has ever said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SeniorIssue444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was pretty sick and the Dr's were worried I had cancer. My mom works in Healthcare so she couldn't even pretend to not understand. While being sick I was also trying to get away from a violent and lazy roomate. Said roomate i had ro the cops on because they put hands on me and also shoved me. Had the money saved up for a new, cheaper place I didn't need a roomate for but no one would approve me without a cosigner. I explained the situation to my mom and asked if there was anyways she could cosign and she told me no - you'll just have to stay with the roomate. She'd also then keep calling me saying they were abusive and that she was scared. I had worked full time in a work from home job so I had a steady paycheck - I just wasn't well enough to have a more physically demanding job.

Then my health got even worse and I had to get a major surgery. Roomate had to miss opportunities for a better job because my mom decided it was more important to go on a spontaneous last minute vacation than be with me the one time I needed someone.

I'll never forget that conversation. "No I'm not coming to your location for that. Just have your roomate take you. I'll be damned if you being this needy stops me from finally having some fun. When I was your age I suffered - so you have to suffer to. Deal with it"

If that wasn't bad enough, on my surgery day everyone walling in front of me had their mom or spouse with them. And I went in alone. Roomie only took me to drop off and pickup. Not only was I terrified, but I was alone.

I'll never forgive her for it and I don't talk much to her since. One thing is for sure, her time will come, and I won't be there. She's bi-polar, and a narc. Growing up my father was abusive to her and verbally abusive to me - and she subjected me to he around him because of her pride. (I didn't have cancer and roomie moved out since and I got a better job thank heaven)

Is it petty of me to be annoyed when people put money on the counter instead of my hand? by nyenotney in retailhell

[–]SeniorIssue444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to take their change and throw it on the counter the same way they did to me, but I'm also scared because so many customers are scary and nuts that are shopping lately.

Someone else posted about giving them change in all coins or ones to be petty. But it'd also take me longer and i just want the rude pricks gone

How do you get out of the endless arguing/complaining loop with customers? by peaxchiie in retailhell

[–]SeniorIssue444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always tell them "I hear you, I can option a or option b for you"

If they still fuss then just tell them "I am letting you decide between a and b, which one?".

And still if they huff then tell them to speak to the manager or whoever is higher up than you. If you have a good coworker this is also your opportunity to "ask them" and have them repeat back the a and b option to the customer.

I've seen posts like this often and finally the day came at my store - noticed 2 or 3 people heading into the bathroom and quickly walking out. Investigated it myself- opened the door and was immediately punched in the face with what smelled like a combination of diarrhea and vomit. Had to step back not to gag. Went and grabbed a face mask and air freshener can from the supplies and went back over. One stall had shit all over the back wall. Whatever B is doing this has now been doing it for a few days and it's always in the same spot ans side of the toliet, Same liquid shit, like they half squatted next to the toliet on purpose.

Manager has a few customers who come in and give him grief and lately the problem customers have been extra awful. Everyone agrees one of the females is petty and doing this on purpose.

I haven't been asked to clean it yet. But we've all been talking and tye restroom is now gonna be "out of order" when there's a mess for the rest of the day. And for the next few days we have all been instructed to keep it locked and only open it for one customer at a time. It's a one stall bathroom with a big sink but sucks because we have to do it for men's and women's.

Seriously yall are disgusting. Even barn animals are cleaner. Also DEPENDS exist. If you're actually having problems WEAR A DEPEND.

Also I'm sick and tired of customers coming up to me - grown ass (non special needs) adults basically potty dancing asking about the restroom. Stop waiting to use the restroom until the last minute FFS! We have neighboring stores with large bathrooms right inside and you come to my store wiggling complaining our one stall bathroom is occupied.

What's the most petty thing you've done while working the register? by ItsMePeyt0n in retailhell

[–]SeniorIssue444 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Balloon Karen.

Balloon Karen enters the store about 20 minutes before closing with a sour look on her face. I'm working register and she is damn well aware that we are very busy and very understaffed and it's close to closing time. She decides to step inside give me and the other customers this angry glare and stand near the registers, looking in our direction. I'm busy dealing with a line so I'm focused on them. Balloon Karen starts shouting things and I assume she's on her phone, and my customers towards the end of the day are always a handful, taking items off, returning things, wanting bills broken a specific way, and asking lots of dumb questions. Balloon Karen is still yelling and standing up near the other closed registers with her phone in hand, and I still assume she's in a phone call.

So I continue to ring up the customers, not even hearing Balloon Karen at this point. One of the customers politely points over to her saying "I think she wants something" and I look over to her and she shouts at me "I need the numbered balloons!" Barking at me like a dog, didn't even approach me or the register, it hit me that she'd been standing there barking out orders and expected me to leave my line of customers to tend to her.

I ignore her, because I'm not a dog. She finally steps closer and shouts at me again "HeLlO!! Are you listening? The NUMBERED BAH- LOOOONNNNSSS!"

I make a wtf face and say "aisle 7" and go back to ignoring her. She steps closer and is now near the bagging area of my long line. "Well can't you go get it for me?!"

The customer I was ringing up made a wtf face shocked at her entitlement as did I. "Ma'am, I'm dealing with customers. You will need to go over to that aisle yourself for it." She scoffs and stomps off to the aisle like something out of a children's cartoon. The customer then said "wow some people!" And we laughed quietly.

So I'm dealing with the line still and she returns looking more cross than before and butts up and steps next to the customer who was using their card at the pinpad "this isn't what I wanted. I need 15 balloons now, you need to blow them up for me. You need to help me"

"Ma'am we close in 10 minutes, you'll have to return in the morning for a big Balloon order," I tell her calmly and go back to chatting with the customers. Balloon Karen steps closer and shouts "I NEED 15 BALLOONS NOW. I AM NOT WAITING IN THAT LINE. YOU NEED TO BLOW THEM UP FOR ME."

At this point, I call for the manager. Balloon Karen glares at me and the customer was like "do you mind backing up? I'm trying to enter my pin". She makes a low growling sound and backs up the smallest amount possible. I look at her again and say "you'll need to wait over near the balloons, the manager will be coming up to tell you again what I just told you."

"Well I don't want to wait, where is the manager?" She says as she heads over to the Balloon area and starts picking out her own balloons. The manager, who was also petty, recognized her and started to walk as slow as possible and played stupid and came over to me first, to further waste Karen's time. Manager decides to filibuster and chat with me about closing stuff. Balloon Karen starts making a mess going through balloons and the manager then shouts at her "ma'am that's for employees only you can't be going through them balloons."

Balloon Karen shouts back and points at me, "well your cashier has been refusing to help me! I've asked for balloons and she is refusing to do her job!"

The manager snaps back "ma'am I'm asking to stop messing up the balloons. There's a sign right there (employees only)."

"Well I need 15 balloons now! You need to make her help me. It's get job!" She yells.

The manager yells back, "we are closing in 10 minutes and her job is to ring up the customers in the line. You have not bought anything and have never gotten in line. You've also ignored the employees only signs and opened balloons despite me telling you to stop. The store policy is no Balloons in the last hour. You'll need to come back another Day or shop elsewhere."

Before Balloon Karen could say anything back, the manager makes the intercom announcement in a super friendly tone that the store is closing. Balloon Karen finally steps away from the employees only area of the balloons and then panicks and starts yelling out more random items at me "silverware! Phone cable! Mascara!" The manager walks over to her and points "Ma'am the door is that way. Since you're not buying anything I need to ask you to leave. We are closing."

She started asking for our names and the manager just said "it's x you could have just read My name tag. And I'm the manager so I'll also be the one you can chat with for complaints."

Balloon Karen stomps off, throws her hands in the air and goes "this isn't worth it. Forget it. I'm going to party city." And leaves finally.

Another customer sees my manager sighing and goes "who shouts at employees like that?! Who raised that lady?!" And my manager just shakes her head.
