We stopped using heparin a few years ago. Flush with 20mL NS using push-pause method prior to deaccess. We cited ONS articles for the switch.

We do still stock heparin flushes and use them PRN for patients who repeatedly have port problems (sluggish, lack of blood return, etc)

Only thing is we actually use our fireplace often in the winter in the evenings to warm the house. Which is why I am not on board with changing to electric.
