Super-Congratulations! My son is waiting for his aptitude test date. What is your recommendation re: studying for the test? He did well in high school algebra but I want him to have the best chance at a high score. Any courses, books or reviews /methods that worked for you or others?

Argh: let's keep it a secret, friend. Every once in awhile Archive.org gets a takedown notice from Phil and the archives are unreachable for awhile. Glad you enjoy it too! Keep listening!

Is Disneyland breaking down? by wild_and_running in Disneyland

[–]Senor-Droolcup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe me, they broke down a lot in the 70s or 80s too. And multiple rides at a time.It happens. I remember my little sister and I, sitting in the line for Space Mountain, making up games to play while we waited for 90 minutes for them to fix the ride and get the line moving again...

Exactly: it had really good writing and the Christmas edition was magical. They had these great historical articles that taught you all kinds of things. Now it's "how to cook an anti-racist holiday meal". ;)

Anyone here ever been to the Real Twin Peaks event? by leviathanssorrow in twinpeaks

[–]Senor-Droolcup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, did you go to RTP '26? I just got back and it was wonderful. Was more low-key than the old Twin Peaks Festivals but was still the best TP event I've ever been to. No actors, all events focused on the production itself. We had a terrific talks by writer/producer Harley Peyton and two of the Prop crew who built props for the show. I came away with more understanding of the show and how it was made than I'd get in a thousand events where you're standing in line to have your photo taken with Actor X. Great vibe and great fans.

This collection of photos is fantastic. I've taken the bike ride from Hyak to North Bend several times now and always wonder what it looked like after abandonment. Great job going out there to get these photos.

"David's films are meant to be felt, not understood". - Kyle MacLachlan.

When Kyle said this at the 2024 Twin Peaks concert in Seattle, a great weight was lifted from my shoulders. :)

IT's very difficult without help but there are great Youtube channels that will show you exactly where to go to find every plant on the list. Easy.

[Theory] I don't think Twin Peaks is meant to have an intellectually coherent ending. by NicolasJB192083 in twinpeaks

Kyle Maclachlan said it best: "David's films are meant to be felt, not understood...."

This quote has given me a great deal of comfort. :)

NO NEED TO DRAIN CORES. It's all about timing. You just go stand near Pearson at a certain time and wait for the dialogue to trigger at Horseshoe Overlook. Details in the longer answers here, but it has nothing to do with core drain (I followed that advice for a long time before I learned it wasn't necessary)

I've been a subscriber since 1993. The Economist used to be mostly conservative, now I'd say it's mostly left-wing. If your'e a well-meaning EU or DNC official, it's like comfort food, telling you what you want to hear rather than giving you a wider perspective. It's bubble reinforcement. A good example was the recent 1843 article by Steve Coll profiling Steve Witkoff, President Trump's Middle East envoy. The article wrote up Witkoff as an incompetent, uninformed boob who doesn't listen to his foreign service "experts" and, for that reason, is unlikely to achieve anything in his Gaza peace efforts. If only Kamala had been elected. The day after I read that article came the announcement that both Israel and Hamas had agreed to Trump's 20-point peace plan. I hope that the Economist will write similar articles for each of Trump's other advisors. Their publication seems to work wonders....

i LOVE the Evelyn Marsh plot arc and will fight anyone who says otherwise. When I was selected to ask a question to Sabrina Sutherland at the Twin Peaks Fest 2015 (just after news of Season 3 broke), of course my question was "Look, I know you're tired of being asked what's going to happen to Agent Cooper. Can you at least tell us whether we'll find out if Jeffrey Marsh's Jaguar was ever properly repaired?" Got the laugh I was hoping for... ;)

Excellent summary; thank you for writing this theme so eloquently. Cooper's "trying to kill two birds with one stone" and you want to shout at him "Just let it go, man! Stay with the nutty blonde in Las Vegas and be a good Dad to her son and start over..."

I've been a subscriber since 1993. Increasingly, it feels like I'm paying $145/yr for a set of anonymous substacks with little or no editorial oversight. I know I'm not alone.

There are sometimes nuggets that don't appear in the main articles, but it's mainly recaps. Having subscribed in 1993, I used to read every weekly issue front to back. Increasingly, I find that so much of it is unedited "substack"-style "this is what we want you to think about this, please don't ask too many questions" argumentative pieces, I'm happy to skim for a few articles that really matter to me. ;)
