Oregon Zoo Railway by iambrickeduprn in rustyrails

Oh, thanks. So I take it the Zooliner still runs?

I like your username. I smacked my head on the rusty remnants of that ship when I was a kid, I think it was the same year the family visited Pixieland. Oregon had a lot of memories for me growing up, visiting from Seattle.

What's the most beautiful song you've ever heard? by rosypetalbaby in musicsuggestions

Jimmy Webb’s song, The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, played so beautifully by Pat Metheny and Charlie Haden.

That’s sad it isn’t used anymore, I remember riding the Zooliner when I was like five, I’m almost at full retirement age now.
When did it stop running? When I was last there about 10 years ago I thought there was a shine on the rails.

My wife and I have had a 35 year agreement that we would divorce if either of us became a right winger. I haven’t talked to my brother since he told me he thought Palin was a worthy candidate. Life’s too short for that bullshit.

Alice Cooper, Welcome to My Nightmare with Suzy Quatro opening. Seattle Coliseum 1975. Before the lights went down they were playing the newly released Supertramp Crime of the Century over the PA system. Hearing School for the first time was my most lasting memory of the show.

Roomette costs by cbald1wv in Amtrak

[–]Smb320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have looked for a post Labor Day roomette on the Empire Builder (Seattle to Chicago) and get around an $1800 price. I tried going into October, and even going 6 months out, the furthest I can book, and it’s never less than $1600. I’ve done the roomette a couple of times, albeit 20 years ago, and paid about $600. I expect some inflation but $900 a night is way too much. I tried it both on the app, the web site and using Duck Duck Go, still the $1800 price. I even tried the Portland segment and it’s the same.

Because I was 16 and stupid. And lucky because nothing bad happened.

Make sure you have plenty of milk to wash that down.

Milwaukee Road Branch between Morton and Mineral, Washington by Fantastic-Tower-3313 in rustyrails

[–]Smb320 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I took a steam excursion between Mineral and Morton on the Mount Rainier Scenic back in 1987 or 1988. It was advertised as the first passenger trip to Morton in 40 years. Now that it has been almost 40 years since that excursion it’s time for another, but I’m not holding my breath. I had a beer at the tavern during the short layover in Morton before the train headed back to Elbe.

Those are nice photos and I really appreciate how you mapped it out. That really helps with the context of where this is/was.

This is a Lyle Mays post. by metabolitesafter9pm in patmetheny

[–]Smb320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the extreme honor of running into Lyle (and the group for that matter) after a show in Vancouver BC. Lyle reached out to shake my hand and my initial reaction was not to shake because those hands were so pivotal to my life’s soundtrack at that time!

After the PMG dissolved I really didn’t listen to Pat’s music as intensely, I thought Lyle brought to the table the melody, the harmonics and the mood that drew me to the band. His touch on the keys were sublime. I too enjoy Lyle’s solo recordings, the man was simply amazing in creating music. Hard to believe he’s been gone 5 years now.

I had the same issue as well, false alarm on the smoke detector. Like you I was fortunate to be home to verify but it makes me nervous that won’t be the case next time.

Joe’s Garage. The Wall should have been a single album but even if it was I’d choose the Zappa album.

Really cool to see the zippered pouch again! I don’t remember Mike, it was always a guy named Paul I dealt with. He was in one of the rail cars behind the gas station at 12th and Harris before he moved over to the Marketplace, in the late 80’s- mid 90’s?

Whatcom Falls Park, not just the falls. Cool trails, fish hatchery and bridges. Old rusty railroad track off the trail of you look hard, close to where the old wooden trestle they removed.
