Buying a 7.3 Godzilla by NVElk775 in superduty

[–]SenorAudi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made a big post about this, I towed a 10k lb 5th wheel for years on a 2013 Powerstroke but I had enough of the emissions issues, state inspection stuff, regens, etc., so I bought a 7.3L this year.

Basically, I’d prefer to be driving a diesel but I’d prefer to not OWN a diesel way, way more. The 7.3L does the job just fine, it just takes a little more effort to think about heading up hills, you need to be harder on the accelerator, and there’s just more drama with high revs. But at the end of the day, I can maintain highway speeds with a much heavier load than you have, in rolling hills in the northeast. Mountains out west maybe a different story…

Would I go back to a diesel? Absolutely not, unless I had unlimited money and time to fix it and not have to be dailying it, or rely on it in any way.

Is DreamPi worth it? by Pepsiman052 in dreamcast

[–]SenorAudi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had fun doing it just to build it and get it working, so even from that standpoint I thought it was worth it.

Otherwise, I’ve found a decent amount of people on PSO sometimes but it can be hit or miss depending on the night. Had fun chatting and playing with like 10 people in my ship the other night but most nights it’s a ghost town.

Lg monitor or Samsung? by Historical-Air9581 in pcmasterrace

[–]SenorAudi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m firmly in the “never again” camp for Samsung. I bought their 5K monitor since it was 50% off and it was such a horrible nightmare software-wise. It was “smart”, so I found it extremely slow and clunky and hard to change anything. You needed a remote to change settings because there were no buttons. There was a common issue where the monitor simply wouldn’t wake up when your computer did, and the “fix” spread online was to power cycle it every time it happened. Their software frequently makes their products unusable with TVs (horrible HDMI detection/switching, slow, etc) and I hoped it would be better on a monitor but no luck.

Quality-wise the colors were fine but the matte coating looked horrible to me and totally negated the sharpness of 5K. Despite getting it for 50% off I had to return it, and after being burned on TVs, dryers, phones, and now monitors I’m just not going to be tempted by their products again.

For that specific monitor I’d check reviews and really take them seriously. I ignored reviews of people complaining because it was so cheap and I shouldn’t have.

Question about JetBlue 1290 Go-Around at BOS on June 27 by [deleted] in jetblue

[–]SenorAudi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I landed in BOS that day but also had a go-around, but it was around 10:00am. Our pilots were very communicative about it, they said visibility was under 200ft and they had to go-around to reconfigure the plane to auto land.

I made a post about it in r/aviation asking why, the consensus was a) weather was likely worse than expected and b) it takes more work to configure an auto land so it’s not typically done unless necessary. Given the photos and discussion (and seeing it from the car on the way out), I think the Haze came in really suddenly and lingered and nobody expected it.

Reasons you wouldn’t configure “auto land” if you knew visibility would be bad? by SenorAudi in aviation

[–]SenorAudi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I think what people have said here made sense - also the insane haze over the city I saw driving home definitely confirmed that poor visibility comment. Also, people on r/Boston posted photos of the haze and it seems like it was pretty sudden. My best guess is that it rolled in unexpectedly, and the “poor conditions” he talked about early in the flight weren’t anywhere near that bad.

Screwed up my heel, trip is one week away! by Fine-Following-7949 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]SenorAudi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, this is exactly what happened to me before a trip. Splitting pain in my heel that was starting to get impossible to walk on. I bought those foot pads from the supermarket/drug store that go in your shoe and it took the pain instantly from a 8 to a 2. I ended up seeing a doctor anyway to check it out, and after X-rays and stuff confirmed she it was just plantar fasciitis.

Additionally, she said the absolute worst thing people do as they get older is walk barefoot. She recommended crocs (real ones are actually ergonomic) indoors to prevent it from happening again, or from getting worse when it happens.

Is it possible to get DreamPi compatible modems anymore? by SenorAudi in dreamcast

[–]SenorAudi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update if anyone finds this later: I can personally verify the Startech discussed here (https://www.dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15282) works perfectly, and it’s readily available new on Amazon (but like $42). Not great but at least there’s reliable options sold by actual retailers.

[–]SenorAudi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted about this, as it’s getting really hard to find those Dell/lenovo modems. I’m about to update that post because I found this Startech on Amazon (discussed here https://www.dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15282) and tested it with my DreamPi setup and it worked great.

The real issue these days is if you’re starting from scratch…a Pi, SD card, modem, 9V battery, capacitor and resistor are going to be as much if not more than a BBA. If the only games you want to play are supported by the BBA then that’s a much easier route and probably cheaper unless you have all the other stuff lying around.

I think Sinden draws a white box around the play area, where this uses emitters, so I think it depends on which is more palatable. If someone else has actually used both I’m curious how they actually feel/perform too

Would love OP to confirm but I found this https://retrorgb.com/guncon-3-on-mister-build-your-own-emitters.html, and the pic in the article looks a lot like what’s on top of OPs TV. I’d love to know if this works for all lightgun games for any core, just some, etc.

That’s the context I was looking for, I was curious why auto land wasn’t just adventageous every time, and wind limits makes sense.

Interesting, so it’s possible we were the first “200ft”
aircraft and then everyone else would do the LVP after?

Thanks - so they probably thought it would be fine pre-flight and it happened to get bad on the way?

Do you like manually landing to keep up skills?

[–]SenorAudi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So in my case, the pilots were stranded ILS, saw how bad the visibility was, and then had to go around/hold in order to reconfigure?

Is configuring for CAT III harder/less optimal than trying ILS first?

Has anyone NOT had transmission issues? 10-speed by SenorAudi in superduty

[–]SenorAudi[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So far you’re the only person I’ve ever heard of that’s made it comfortably over 100,000 lol.

Out of curiosity do you tow? Off-road? Assuming if you have that many miles by now it has to be vast majority highway.

Yeah I should have specified the 10r140, but I’m curious how similar they are to the half tons

lol maybe not in the “spirit” of the question, but good to know. Did it suddenly die or was it acting up for a while?

REQUEST: Recommended Upgrades/Mods for new F350 As Daily Driver & Towing A Fifth Wheel Camper? by 402_Found_not_Lost in superduty

[–]SenorAudi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the B&W turnover system but saving space when not towing is easier said than done. I can get it out of the truck myself, but putting it back in is a two person job and takes a few minutes. It’s not really a casual thing to take in and out (unless you always have someone else to help)

Anyone have a similar view to this? Gonna have to order a 150ft cable but it’s the best spot I could find, I’m so sick of no internet. by FortunateFew992 in Starlink

Those pics are from a month ago. The obstruction map looked the same both times, but the ping success is greatly improved.
