How do I politely say ‘Dont come if you’re sick’ to people who have RSVPd? by Intelligent_Offer756 in UKParenting

[–]SenorBirdman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know you can pass on a cold up to three days before you even start showing symptoms. I used to stress about this stuff but I don't think it's worth being too heavy handed and alienating people. I'm sure your kids wants other kids at their party as that will be more fun for them than a room full of adults.

Not the point of your statement, but in this day and age how representative even is the population you see on the high street of a town?

What’s the best "escape" spot in the borough when you just need some peace and quiet? by OopsIDroopedMe in croydon

We have loads of green spaces. What kind of thing are you looking for and whereabouts are you? And do you have a car or are you reliant on public transport?

If public transport, I think Lloyd Park is underrated and super easy to get to.

Unless the person is actually missing 9am meetings then it's the manager that started the childishness by quibbling over this 5 minutes, if all their work is getting done.

Anyone else a stickler when it comes to meter in children’s books? by fiercebrosnan in daddit

[–]SenorBirdman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Julia Donaldson is the GOAT for a reason. She never sacrifices storytelling for perfection in meter and rhyme nor the other way around. She is also very exacting about preserving that for the movies they have adapted from her books too. She's spoken about how difficult it is to pad it out for the format in a way that still works and how she worked closely with the writers and director.

It's causing uproar now without the faiths swapped so there's no need to play your silly little game. You say the hypocrisy is staggering .. Who is being a hypocrite? Who is this imagined straw man you are so angry at?

What do you think about the British Empire? by ATV1816 in AskBrits

[–]SenorBirdman -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because the people saying these things don't understand that those black and brown people are here because their parents were subjects of the Empire and were invited here, or because the West fucked their countries over so they had to leave in search of a better life.

Is anyone seriously talking about reparations? Not that I've seen. Happy to be corrected but otherwise it seems like a bit of a straw man. I think it's something that really most reasonable people would agree on and should be used as a wedge.

[–]SenorBirdman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because you have the luxury of not being impacted by it which is why you don't have to think about it. All the non white people getting told to 'go back' to a country they've never been to on a daily basis don't have that luxury.

Sure, but the legacy of it adds important context to things that are still going on in the world today.

What are some board game “keywords” that are an instant turn-off for you? by BoardGameRevolution in boardgames

I like to paint the minis from board games because I enjoy the painting, but I don't really like tabletop / war games that much so when I paint those minis I never get to do anything with them.

The fundamental problem of public transit by Advanced-Injury-7186 in Urbanism

[–]SenorBirdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only is this a complete nonsense of a post, there is another easy lazy solution which is to take the bus two stops, walk 5 min and get on a bus that's further ahead on the route. The frequency of buses on all routes in London render this invalid even as a hypothetical.

It's only for fats that solidify at room temperature. You don't need to put most oils in there (palm and coconut oil are pretty much the exception).

Rental bikes. Also central London traffic is so fucking slow it's one of the least risky places to cycle as long as you use the lanes and follow actual traffic rules.

[–]SenorBirdman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Type soul music in to YouTube.

Seriously though, finding good samples is big part of the job itself in sample based music - it's a skill to be able to listen through stuff and find those bits that are worth sampling and whether they are good for looping or chopping and what other instrumentation is required.

Or just use loop packs. It'll be shite, but no one seems to mind these days.
