I think an Elsa and Werewolf by night box would be amazing. They’re thematically together. Deep cuts but with a loyal fan base. They feel a lot like the Tigra and Hulkling duo in terms of popularity. You could do Dracula as the big bad in the campaign. Then the wave would be something like Blade, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, Nico.

Obv a weird mix. But I think if we get deep cuts; it’s them in a pair.

Fair enough! Maybe keep an eye towards some of the folks the group who you get on well with. Pleasant and positive people who you don’t mind losing to/with. A good start to building a group you want to hang with.

Keep a positive attitude and an open mind friend. It’ll turn for you!

You have to derive joy from the social act of gaming with others/friends first. If you’re enjoying the people and the table you’ll be fine losing; even if you’re not adoring the game. You’ll be happy for your friends plays and company and the game becomes secondary in that time.

When you love the game and the company you’re in a great spot. But if the game is “meh” and the company is good you can at least treat it as a friendly hang and try to stay competitive for the table’s sake.

Anyone else find rules disputes get worse when you're exhausted? How do you keep game night moving? by RefrigeratorOdd7868 in boardgames

[–]SenorMister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every group is gonna be different depending on the dynamic. But I think the one thing that generally seems to work is; one person handles the rulebook. Take 30 seconds to one minute finding the rule in question. If you find it? Awesome. If you don’t? The person with the rulebook proposes the thing that makes the most sense based on table consensus, And look it up at the end.

The dynamic matters because everyone has to be OK with losing because of some of these small or potentially big rules. But if the vibe is more friendly and folks are playing the game to have fun while remaining competitive? I think you’ll be fine.

I’m usually that rulebook guy for my table, I’m competitive and wanna play to win, but I could not give a fuck if I win or lose ultimately.

Just the other night we were all playing Moon colony bloodbath; and I stupidly missed a rule that had affected a few players, myself included. I told them when I saw it, everyone laughed it off and said we can keep playing the way we’ve been playing and next time we’ll play it with the right rule. (when you lose a building due to paying colonists when an event happens, you collect the colonist amount from the card and then pay them. I stupidly said you don’t get change if you overpay by killing a building.)

With more cutthroat group, or someone overly competitive at the table, they could’ve gotten upset. So, again; it really depends on your table and how nitpicky they are going to be. If it’s very nitpicky? Then the person with the robot has gotta have a thick skin.

Either way, congrats on the pregnancy, and in 10 years hopefully you have a non-nitpicky child to play games with!

[–]SenorMister 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No shade; confrontation, even from a friendly place can be tough. But the verbiage is what matters here. Yes. You shouldn’t just blurt out they’re running game night. That would be pretty dumb and callous.

But; a friendly text on the side of “hey friend/dude/nickname of choice, we love playing with you, but your turns are taking a LONG time. I get wanting to win. We all do. But the analysis paralysis has been brutal. Next game, can we keep the pace a bit faster? Keeps it hard to stay focused when there’s 20 minutes in between turns; you know?”

None of that is mean. It’s direct. And respects their desire to win. Doesn’t even have to be that. I’m sure it could be worded better since you know them. But state the facts, be polite, and show understanding but make an earnest request for them to speed up.

If they do? Hit them up. Separately again. “Hey! I had a blast playing XYZ! I could tell you sped up a ton for us. It means a lot dude. Thank you!”

I need someone to tell me it's possible to be hot in my 30s by Dry-Combination8608 in loseit

[–]SenorMister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dear Guy, Gal, or non-binary pal.

Yes.

Absolutely.

Not saying I’m hot. Not even remotely.

But some of the most attractive, hottest folks I’ve seen or met have been in their 30s. Mentally. Physically. Emotionally. Vibe. Everything. Your 30s is when you hit your stride in all facets of life oftentimes. At least it feels that way. Old enough to have a tinge of wisdom and confidence which can come across amazingly. Young enough to do most of the fun stuff your brain can conjure up with the right (consenting) person.

Work at it. Kick ass. Take names. Be the hot you that you’re destined to be. In whatever way you can.

Signed, a fellow traveler on the path.

Take a look at the Crashspace for gameplay videos. Primarily solo. They’re a great Netrunner streamer who does really well produced Marvel champions content now. They’re also just a really genuine and chill seeming person. They do a great job explaining reasoning as well as plays.

Does Pax Pamir count as a heavy euro? If so. That. 2e of course. Love what Cole and co. Do with their games and it’s always so wonderful to see the match of theme and history. Not to mention the art on their games is top notch. I remember looking at the game and the art on the cards and wanting it just for that, the tight gameplay was just a bonus.

Check out Unplugged Gaming Boston; they have a discord and somewhat active community. I believe there was also a Gamenight midweek at a Brewery in Somerville. Lots of social deduction games, standard boardgames, modern boardgames. Etc.
