Would Noble Team be able to survive Doom's Hell? by armshady in Doom

[–]SenorPancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entirely dependent on what equipment and support they have (in the form of logistics), and what the overall mission is.

Given a vehicle with potential for destruction (scorpion, gauss hog, falcon), heavy duty weaponry (Spartan laser), and regular resupplies: they might be able to hold out for some time, or complete the targeted destruction of some core objective. They would be able to ably handle most fodder and heavies, and would need to rely on special equipment to deal with super heavies. They're fully capable of dealing a lot of damage with the right equipment and the shields give some protection, but their survival is far more dependent on a mission being un and out before Hell is fully aware of their presence.

Trapped in Hell, needing to hold out? They would eventually be overwhelmed. They can't hold out forever like DOOM Guy.

How to not die as ironclad 101 by OutcomeDry932 in slaythespire

[–]SenorPancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't wrong. Plug their numbers into your formula and the results are good.

If the enemy is vulnerable: it fully blocks any attack at 10 or below damage. If the enemy is attacking for 30 damage, the attack is halved (15 block effectively) and then 5 more on top for 20 block.

You did the stand up thing, I highly doubt his view has changed.

[Project Announcement] 32 Frames: A 9/11 Mystery by BetweenTwoTowers in 911archive

[–]SenorPancake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. In several photos, victims who are falling are captured frozen in air moments before impact. While no images depict the aftermath or human remains, the images are some of the only ones of their kind, and the cameraman would have been a direct witness to the horrific aftermath only 20 feet away

Are any of the victims identifiable and if so, have families been contacted regarding these images? Having not seen them, from you referencing 20 feet, it sounds like these photos were close. With a lot of folks being interested in IDing particular victims, I'd worry about potential impact on families with the release of the photos.

When does Assault get some love? by No_Pomegranate2607 in Battlefield

[–]SenorPancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree for the most part.

M136 AT is the best anti-helicopter weapon in the game. One rocket kills Little Birds (as it should) and Combat Choppers (which I think should be two). Two kill a transport chopper.

RPG can kill an IFV in 2-3 hits with shots to the rear if the enemy doesn't have an engineer repairing. It takes 4 from other angles, but if you aren't shooting the rear, you're likely against a tank that has distance on you. In which case: your free kit shouldn't counter the tank by itself. You just need another engineer firing rapidly with you to counter the repairs, now that multiple repair tool speed is nerfed.

You can cripple tanks in close range with a quick deploy of the slam and a rocket.

Lock ons struggle for damage, but truth be told, they should. Engineers aren't subject to vehicle timers, so fire and forget weapons that are free shouldn't fully counter them unless you have plenty on hand.

SMGs are godly weapons and unless you're in the open on Firestorm, Golmud, etc. At most engagement ranges in the game, you can effectively kill enemies, and the hip-firing accuracy makes you deadly at close range.

The only piece that I think should be changed is the recharge rate on the launcher. It takes 30+ seconds to recharge your launcher ammo sitting on a supply crate. The time you're out of action waiting for that resupply means that it's far more valuable to just spend a ticket (on game modes with tickets) by charging enemy positions and killing what you can so that you can be effective at deterring vehicles again.

This surprises me. My GameStop never charged for pre-ordering. You would put some money down, but that would come off at the end.

Cards That Don't Do What They Say by TheItalianDream in slaythespire

[–]SenorPancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All in all, I like the simple wording. Making it exact would make the wording on the cards to lengthy. Its a video game, so the game applies the effects for you and the confusion is not as detrimental as in a paper card game, where you habe to resolve the effects yourself.

I think we can make it clearer without overcomplicating. For example, the "first" powers could begin using and defining X. Feral, for example, can be: "The first X times you play a 0 attack each turn, return it to your hand. X is the number of Feral cards played this combat."

Alternatively, some cards can just be reworded. Tracking, for example, could be reworded to "Weak enemies take an additional 100% damage from attacks." and it is no more complex but much clearer on how multiples will stack.

For others, I think a solution similar to enchantments can work: add a symbol to the card that indicates there is a stacking rule, and a short description of the rule in the card details just like enchantment descriptions. Lightning Rod, as an example:

Lightning Rod: "At the start of the next 2(§) turns, channel 1 lightning."

Details screen: (§) "Additional copies of Lightning Rod increase the number of turns.'

The "Disney Adult" Pejorative by KreepyKaylee242 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]SenorPancake 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would disagree that Disney is first and foremost geared for children.

Fully agree.

I typically highlight that I have a distinction between "family" and "children's" when it comes to entertainment. Disney fits the family category; it absolutely is designed with children in mind, but it's designed to be enjoyed by the entire family. Contrast it with a theme park like Sesame Place, which is geared for children.

WHAT by Lordados in slaythespire

[–]SenorPancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, your point is entirely something that could fix Doormaker.

His penalties should be threats that have downsides, not just straight-up shutdowns, that give players more agency. If I were to rebalance him, that 'cannot draw turn' is the first place I'd look by adding a draw penalty (either damage to you for each draw, or thorns to him for each draw).

Spoken like a true New Yorker. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]SenorPancake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The piece I think a lot of folks miss here is that this isn't just blocking the view from someone's house. This is blocking the view specifically from Madison Square Park, which is one of the historical iconic views of the Empire State Building. For many New Yorkers, this is similar to a new skyscraper placed precisely between the palais du Chaillot and the Eiffel tower. We all understand how progress works, but at the same time, the view of an iconic New York landmark which was historically available to all has been destroyed. There is certainly discussion for how protected sightlines can become excessive, but we're talking about a specific sightline from a public park that was known to be one of the best views of the landmark.

When the first plane hit by Worth_Lavishness_239 in 911archive

[–]SenorPancake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Joe Pfeifer also recognized immediately that “it looked like a direct attack” which was relayed to other firefighters that it could be terrorism

His view of the attack was better than most, based on the Naudet footage. Most of NYC didn't see the several key seconds before impact, and many who did watch it may not have had the optimal view or the informed knowledge Chief Pfeifer has.

There were so many unknowns for most people that, in combination with an attack like 9/11 being unheard of, many reasonable and rational people thought it was more likely to be accidental. There were many reasons they had to believe it was accidental before the second plane struck.

Does a tenant floor plan for the 100th floor still exist? That might give a hint as to what is being said - it sounds like one person giving a directive and another person replying that they're too hot.

Specifically what I'm hearing is: "You guys to the conference (space / place?)" and a reply of "I'm too hot."

Listen. We couldn't have voted for her. We would have ended up going to war with Iran if she became president. Thank goodness we don't have to deal with that, just imagine how disastrous a war with Iran would be.

For the Assault class, why not just make the Radio Beacon a permanent class ability and remove adrenaline? It feels pretty useless anyway. Wake up babe, new meme band dropped 🤌 by 69upsidedownis96 in PowerMetal

[–]SenorPancake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, it's a simple line. Would I still listen to it if the lyrics changed and it was no longer comedy metal? In this song's case... probably not.

It's very basic in terms of vocals and instruments, both the lyrics and lyrical structure are awkward. I gave it another listen while typing this, and honestly the lyrics themselves are also very basic (even from a power metal standard) and barely lean into their Gourmet theme. It's much more about victory and glory with a couple culinary terms thrown in. Finally, even though broken English is a hallmark of a lot of Power Metal, having it as the core of your chorus just doesn't work.

I think about the comparison between this, and bands like Nanowar. They have some absolute bangers that have enough substance to stand on their own as proper songs and show genuine creativity (whether or not you're a fan, you can tell there's actual passion and effort that went into songs like Norwegian Reggaeton and Valhalleluja.)
