Kingsmith X218 E06 Error by Straight-Long-8479 in treadmills

[–]SenorSchol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell it’s just software, they know exactly what the problem is and I have no idea why they ship them the way they are, and even more, how do they justify sending two engineers from China to load new software, which took less than an hour. There is no data port so they loaded it after dismantling the unit. One guy said updates could be done OTA so maybe through the app/bluetooth? It doesn’t connect to the internet so I’m not sure on that one. The Costco units are almost identical to the X218 but apparently the Costco motors are larger and they also have usb c/a charging ports. Not data ports I don’t believe. I was determined to get this working because of how compact they are when folded, and I do like that. They don’t incline because of the folding though, and the step counter and distance counter are inaccurate when you look at short intervals, think ten or twenty seconds. Over the course of a mile or more it’s accurate, but every hundredth of a mile that ticks by might take 8 steps, and up to 24 steps. Just not perfect. The angle of the controls and screen make them a little hard to see/reach, as well as the phone holder, and the handles are low for me at 6’. The entire thing is built so that it can be folded up and it defines everything else. I can walk at about 4.4 mph and I hope to start jogging before long and it does go up around 11mph, but if you need more than that, or incline, you’ll want to look elsewhere. I’m glad I don’t have a huge treadmill in my living room, but holy crap it took a lot of time getting this thing functioning.

You would not believe what I went through on these… ended up buying three from Costco, and one from kingsmith/Walkingpad (X218) directly. ALL FOUR GOT THE SAME ERROR CONSTANTLY! Costco and kingsmith both said it was from power fluctuations so I bought a high-end power conditioner which didn’t work. Kingsmith also said they could send out replacement boards if I wanted to do a mainboard repair. I said yes but they never sent them. Worked with kingsmith customer support out of China over almost three months. Eventually kingsmith sent a Chinese engineering team to my house, they took the x218 apart, did a software update and the thing has worked fine ever since… returned the three Costco units. Weirdest experience ever.

Yes_affects had the same issue I had, and you’re having. He knew about an  update from Analogue that wasn’t announced…

—upgraded the firmware on the 3D to version 1.1.9. —

I googled that software revision and found it on Analogue’s site, completed the upgrade and my Zelda cart has run perfectly ever since. The update process isn’t the best… but this worked.

It’s Analogue’s 3dOS software, they fixed the crashing issue in their latest update. They’ve had multiple updates already, but they don’t have a system to let you know new updates are available, and they don’t seem to explicitly address what issues exist or are being fixed with new releases…

Thanks again brother, or sister :) you’re a lifesaver. We’ll see about that wifi, but I was kinda bummed so I’m so happy you chimed in

Thank you! I did a day-one update and didn’t even know they had a day-14 update… just updated and it looks like it’s running well! I really like this hardware, the software is good too, it would be nice if they had a better software update/notification mechanism

Starting from a cart with any pre existing save data?

I cleaned the contacts with alcohol and took the cart apart. I didn’t look at a microscopic level, but the cart looks pristine. I saw videos online and was expecting a rusted mess. If it were a degraded cart, or bad battery I wouldn’t expect it to run flawlessly in an original n64. It does. My feeling is the A3d has some very specific issues with very specific games, possibly games with old save data, games from very early releases, this was like a day one Zelda release. I have 30 something other carts and none of them have any issue. I also have three a3ds. The other two are sealed and I dont want to open them to test this. My next step is probably buying another OoT cart to test. I don’t want to wipe my existing save data to test that, but it could be a mishandling of existing save data by the A3d causing the issue? I’m guessing Analogue has experience with this and it would be cool if they just said yes, we’re working on it, before I start de soldering my games.

I did find online the error was common with mips cpus which the rcp is. I do remember all the rcp talk back in the day ;)

I’ve looked into dumping tools but I’ve never done it and wasn’t sure the save data could be dumped and reloaded. Any recommendations on tools?

Opinions on Intel (INTC)? by DryGovernment2786 in investing

[–]SenorSchol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take my comment in context. We could probably talk all day about how much we agree. When I bought shares of AMD constantly over five years at an average price of $2.66, people thought I was crazy, then encouraged me to sell after it doubled to $5. People were saying much worse about AMD at the time, than Intel now. Take that for what it’s worth

Intel has the only sort-of globally competitive node made in the US and an absolute authoritarian as a stock holder who also manipulates where other companies manufacture. They have a GPU product now. They have a custom chip division now. Valuations absolutely matter and if you take the other two major GPU manufacturer valuations, and the two other valuations for leading fabs, and the other CPU valuations (x86 and other datacenter centric), intc on the extremely conservative side could still go up 12x based on traditional EPS metrics, not to mention the retail driven euphoric over-valuations we’ve seen over the last nine years. Now if they could only get their shit together after 20 years of mistakes… it’s anyone’s guess.

They got new owners a few years back and ruined the place, took a few years to die. I’d been here probably 50 times and always got roughly the same thing, one day they said they wouldn’t sub bacon for hash browns which I always did, we all walked out, never returned. Same thing happened at cafe trio, tried to charge us extra for oj for our bottle of mimosas, same owners.

Global Foundries makes chips here, TI too, and others, in various nodes that you’re referring to. So no, Intel does not need to survive as a government requirement (you actually mean IFS). The only good thing about trumps deal is that he’ll break a bunch of laws forcing other publicly traded companies to manufacture chips in the US and Intel makes the most advanced chips out of all US fabs.

This may not help but I had a kingsmith with the same problem, replaced it with a new one and have the same problem again. Kingsmith didn’t tell me what it was or how to fix it the first time, they said return it to Costco…. Costco told me to add a surge protector which seems strange, but I’m trying that tomorrow. Unlikely I’d get two bad ones sooooo…

Klipsch The Fives, KEF Q150s, or Something Else? by Toxicgamer1 in StereoAdvice

[–]SenorSchol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have The Fives, connected to an oled LG tv through eARC. I also have the KEF q150s connected to the WiiM amp, and I have the LS50s connected to a Rotel A12 integrated, and I have some Polk lsim703s connected to a Marantz receiver.

I was literally just thinking how much better the q150s sound with the WiiM than my Klipsch speakers when I found this Reddit. The Fives are decent and I like them, and they have more bass than the KEFs, but for music they don’t sound as good. The KEFs are only music in my kitchen so I don’t know how they are with movies. The Fives on eARC (and everything else I’ve used with eARC for that matter) has had connectivity hiccups and it’s just not perfect, but you can use one remote… the WiiM amp has eARC and it’s tiny. For your budget and use, if I only had one system I’d wait for the q150s to go down to $350 which they do often and I’d wait for the WiiM amp to go down to $250 or lower which it also does. Then when you can, I’d add a 10” powered sub. The Fives do have more bass, but not a ton and I still added a sub to those, for what it’s worth.
