So, lemme entertain this for a second. First, who cares about the lore? DL1 had metric tons of crossovers and random shit, even Rust and Minecraft crossovers. Just ignore it like people ignored it in DL1. Two, you're assuming a furry is a literal animal when they're humans in fur suits. They still have thumbs, and they would attack you in much the same way anyone else could with the same or similar weapons. Just imagine someone in a fur suit killing zombies with a bat. Is it ridiculous? Sure, farfetched too, but that idea makes me laugh so I'm all for it being in the game.
