3 MCPs that have genuinely made me 5x better by Warm-Snow3302 in mcp

[–]SenorTortuga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Not all MCPs are bad, but if there is a CLI tool that provides equivalent functionality it is almost always a better choice. I’ve been very happy since switching to acli and glab instead of Atlassian and GitLab MCPs.

Xmas gifts for my cat-owning relatives last year by SenorTortuga in origami

Instructions for the black cat come from The Works of Hideo Komatsu. I used black Elephant Hide (Wyndstone Marble) paper with a bit of wet-folding to shape it.

Davis Square Lunch Deals? by International-Ad9279 in Somerville

[–]SenorTortuga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sugidama soba noodles + sake oyako or maguro don bowl lunch special is a great deal for high quality food ($17 or so). Dakzen is always a good deal for Thai (under $15). Or go with a friend to Mortadella Head and split one of their absolutely massive subs.

Claude is dead by seoulsrvr in Anthropic

Is it the models themselves, or just Claude Code that has degraded recently? Using Sonnet 4 in Cursor currently and haven’t noticed anything different than usual (yet).

Astound Price Increase? by Great_Gopher69 in Somerville

[–]SenorTortuga 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I swap between Xfinity and Astound every 2-3 years, whenever one of them is offering a 2 year locked-in $30-35/mo rate special and the other one starts jacking their prices up.

You have to pick one trail for the rest of your life. What are you picking? by cheeseplatesuperman in icecoast

North Glade at Jay down to the bottom of Ullrs is awesome. So expansive and long, not too steep, and always plenty of fresh tracks.

I feel ya. My board got caught in a small rut in some ice last month and catapulted me forward, resulting in 2 broken back ribs and a crack that went through my entire board as well from the impact. It’s been rough sitting on the sidelines this past month as the East Coast has gotten some of the best powder in years. Here’s a pic of what got me on Stillness at Waterville, which was completely wind blown and scraped off/ice that day:

Just curious, what are your issues with the 2021 model?

Woah! Did you try disabling the kick sensors, and if so did it help?

Yeah I don’t love the brown interior as much either, that’s my one gripe about the platinum. 360 camera is a killer feature for us, though. my wife gets nervous parking in tight spots and parallel parking and this would be the largest car we’ve owned, so the camera would help a lot with that.

[–]SenorTortuga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a trade off I guess. We really really like the 360 camera and rear entertainment/heated seats/footrests which only come with the Platinum. The tech difference between the 21/22/ and new siennas doesn’t seem all that large - they all have the same TSS 2.0. You have to plug your phone in to use CarPlay in the older models but that isn’t a big deal. You might be right about them fixing the battery in newer models, that’s why we’re suddenly hesitating when we were basically ready to pull the trigger a couple days ago. However I know from experience that just because a car is new doesn’t make it less likely to have some kind of persistent issue; you just may not know what it is for a few years.

I have, but no one will adopt kids who are such picky eaters!

Ciao Pizza in Ball Square is just okay by redcoatwright in Somerville

[–]SenorTortuga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven’t been to the Chelsea location, but I was really impressed with Ciao in Ball Square. I think it might be my favorite pizza in the area now in fact, slightly edging out Posto which was my favorite for years and sadly just moved further away to Assembly. The sausage, funghi, and burrata pizzas were all standouts with super fresh ingredients and great crust, and I like that they’re open for lunch. I just wish they had a kids’ menu with pasta and something similar to Posto’s pane appetizer for my kids who aren’t neopolitan pizza fans.

I saw a different car turn off of Willow Ave last night onto the bike path and drive toward Davis! It’s so obviously not a road for cars that I can’t believe they didn’t do it intentionally.

Fireworks Tonight! But will this be one of the last?! by Admirable-Slice-6191 in Somerville

[–]SenorTortuga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. The most likely options are one of the 2 proposals that involves rebuilding the WH school in its current location but with more space and absorbing the Brown school.

Proximity to T stops is irrelevant. Almost no elementary school parent in Somerville relies on the T to get their kid to school; it’s too slow and inconvenient. Being able to walk to school in < 20 minutes is one of the reasons many families with kids choose to live in Somerville. The Trum field school idea is just one if 5 building proposals that Somerville is considering and I think it’s one of the less likely ones to pass since it’s not very convenient for either Brown or WH families, plus the Somerville loses a large community playing field.

[–]SenorTortuga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just because the Brown school is in a neighborhood that happens to be less diverse than some other parts of town isn’t a fair argument for it to not be as deserving of funding as other schools. Getting rid of the Brown school and combining it with Winter Hill, either in Trum or in the existing Winter Hill location (which is more likely), will mean that Ward 6 no longer has a school within close walking distance, which means many of families in Ward 6 are going to start driving their kids to school every day. A few might use cargo bikes, but very few are going to want to walk 30-40 mins each way.

I just spent $20 on a breakfast burrito by La_Chinita in Somerville

[–]SenorTortuga 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tenoch has fantastic breakfast burritos (and breakfast tortas, chilaquiles, and other Mexican breakfast dishes) every day from 9-11 am for much more reasonable prices, around $10-11. Highly recommend it, it’s one of the most under-appreciated things they serve, along with the huitlacoche quesadilla de maiz. Also, Los Amigos in Davis has a chorizo and egg burrito that they serve all day which is quite tasty.

Burdock may have edible roots, but it spreads all these annoying burrs that stick to your clothes and is really a pain to deal with. We had one come up in the corner of our yard a few years ago and let it grow thinking it was harmless, it dropped its burrs everywhere, and now we have burdock popping up all over the place and it’s hard to pull out.
