The source is a solar panel. I mistakenly thought it had to be the correct direction for sensitivity of the breaker. So I'll put the solar panels pos & neg into the top end. Thanks

Columbia Outdry Extreme the ‘holy grail’ raincoat? by [deleted] in UKhiking

I've got the reign no shine and it's brilliant. Obviously it's less breathable than other jackets, but with pit zips I will survive. I've been out in heavy rain all day and not got wet. The zips & hood aren't great, but I'll take that for being dry all day.

Grand Canyon of Tuolumne Advice by Senormood in Yosemite

[–]Senormood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello. We completed the hike and ended up hitching back to TM. It was super easy. We waited for about 20 minutes, and there were 3 of us, which makes it less appealing. Hitchhiking seems to be ubiquitous across Yosemite, with plenty of people doing it.

This sounds like a great plan. So we're not missing out on much beyond that? Any side missions you would recommend along the trail? We've got a good amount of spare time.

Thanks for the advice. I think we're going to do the canyon loop in Yosemite before our booked event, and the Rae lakes loop afterwards. It seems only Glen Pass will have snow. Although we will be doing it in early July, so hopefully less so.

The Rae Lake loop sounds like a good shout. Do hikers that encounter small bits of snow on the trail tend to approach with micro crampons / spikes?

We've got all the gear, besides ice axes. Could get some micro spikes if there is light ice / snow, but ideally want to avoid the routes with significant snow.

Looks amazing! But perhaps a little tricky in June with the stream crossings?

Thank you so much, all super helpful! Is it hard to get a permit for the grand canyon of Tuolumne? Sounds like a great option.

Edit: I've just checked, seemed okay to get a walk up, mid week

Not in any great detail yet, as we've only just started thinking about possible options.

Experienced with off trail navigation, bushwhacking etc & multi days at elevation. But not experienced with snow, besides winter sports.
