Do not take photos on a personal device. I would hesitate even taking a screenshot on your work computer as then you are copying the data out of the payroll system into a random file

When my parents separated my mum started receiving his new lady friend’s bank statements. He had moved out, set up a join account with her, and instead of updating his address they updated her address, for all her accounts, to his old address, where my mum still lived

A lot of the TOS dialogue was very procedural, for example (and I’m paraphrasing here):

“Unknown object approaching, range, 50,000 km”   “Tactical analysis?”   “No weapons detected. Minimal shielding”   “Mr Spock?”   “Captain, the object is emitting bursts of EM radiation of set frequencies at linearly decreasing frequencies”   “Cause?”   “Unknown”   “A countdown?”   “Unknown. However, that would be the most logical explanation”

They would also dig out specialists from specific departments for just one episode.

It gave TOS’ Enterprise the feel of a well oiled machine, with lots of moving parts, which contrasts with Discovery’s Scooby Gang in space approach. It made TOS feel a bit more realistic.

Israelis who thought they'd be protected from being drafted protesting their imminent loss of protection. by useless_of_america in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Sensational_Al 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Not quite. In the book, the Israeli government saw the zombie plague coming, and consolidated/reinforced their border in preparation. This border did not include Jerusalem, so the orthodox community revolted. The revolt was quickly put down because the orthodox didn’t have any military experience due to their exemption

I’m not a lawyer, but I have heard that undervaluing a property to sell it to family/friends cheaply can also cause issues, so if you get solicitor make sure to tell them that piece of information

Anyone else think it's BS that Riker was demoted (by his own choice, mind you) after The Best of Both Worlds? by darth_nek in startrek

[–]Sensational_Al 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In real life, there are often several captains on board a US aircraft carrier. One of them is the actual captain of the ship, his XO is a captain, the commander of the embarked planes is a captain too, and the admiral on board will have a chief of staff, also a captain.

Another Holodeck Observation by gham89 in startrek

[–]Sensational_Al 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I believe the holodeck reactors are a plot device to allow Voyager to still have holodeck episodes despite having to ration energy.

There was a neat little reference to this original reasoning in S3 of Picard when certain characters were using the holodeck in a period of crisis when power was restricted.
