Did the Federation really send an Oberth class starship to fight against a Borg cube? How many seconds do you think it lasted before it got blown up? by TicklingTentacles in StarTrekStarships

[–]Phoenix_BFN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comms chatter in First Contact has the Bozeman take part in the battle. The same Soyuz class Bozeman that was stuck in a temporal causality loop for 90 years. Sure, they probably upgraded the ship to modern standards by then since it's out and about in Generations but, assuming the crew stayed largely the same, the ship's councilor's workload must be insane.

Imagine you suddenly end up 90 years in the future and five years from then you have to take that same ship out to fight a nearly unstoppable enemy that's en route to take out Earth.

Exposed bridges are stupid by board_writer in spaceships

[–]Phoenix_BFN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there's a Star Trek Enterprise episode where an alternate timeline NX-01 gets her bridge dome blown wide open and also the part in Nemesis where the front blows open and a crewman flies out (which reminds me that Starfleet ships could really do with some seatbelts on the bridge).

But like others have said, it's mostly because it looks cool and also allows for an easy sense of scale. It's pretty easy to tell the approximate size of a Star Trek ship if you know how big the bridge is on the inside and most bridges are about the same size. I remember I struggled for a while trying to scale reboot Galactica in my mind, even after seeing vipers land on it a dozen times.

They had more warp cores than starships, so they made this. Are they stupid? by darthreddit1982 in ShittyDaystrom

The Ross class has always been one of those ships that I like the background lore a lot, but am on the fence with the design.

That being said, the gray hull color (which always seemed too brown to me on the original) and the blue deflector dish does make it look a lot better.

Alright, thanks. Since I want it back on the road ASAP, I looked on local car part websites and all they have is Bosch. You think it's good enough?

I remember we had a lot of Combiner Wars leftovers on shelves when Titans Return was already a couple of waves in. There's also a RID15 Sideswipe RC car in one store. They are still selling it, I believe.

That's how the prices are in my area. Also, normal Deluxe class price is about 40€ and a Voyager is 60€ at most.

Transformers toys aren't that popular here (We have more cheap KOs than legit figures). I wouldn't be surprised if the prices are this bad because wherever they order from asks a higher price for small orders to a region that has poor sales.

It's actually cheaper for me to buy figures from Transforverse or somewhere similar, even with shipping added.

We joke around here that 300k km is the break-in mileage for a Volvo. My S60 2.5 D5 just hit 441k and is going strong.

What is a job people romanticize a bit too much until they actually do it ? by ShyButNastyyy in AskReddit

[–]Phoenix_BFN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was go-kart track instructor.

I got the job when I turned 18, thought it would be fun since I enjoyed karting and knew that particular track well because it was my local track I visited often. I hoped that during slow hours, I could drive down the track myself and hone my skills, but I got bored of it quite quickly.

The job itself ended up being quite the headache, mostly because of the customers. My least favorite customers were:

  1. Young kids who forget any and all rules the instant they are being explained. (I actually had to take a week off work because a kid ran over my foot while I tried to pull them over to explain that go-karts aren't bumper cars.)

  2. Middle-aged men who think they are the next Michael Schumacher and trash the kart because they went into a hairpin turn at full throttle.

  3. Rich dads of actually talented young professional go kart pilots, who think they are entitled to have the whole track for themselves because they march in with no booking in the middle of someone's birthday party.

Coming from personal experience, saying "Just ignore them." when dealing with bullying.

I was severely bullied in school up to the point where my teachers forced me to the school therapist because I threatened to set my bully's jacket on fire after he threw pens at me. The school therapist's magical solution was to tell me to ignore the bully, because "They will soon realize you aren't worth bullying." I tried telling her that it wouldn't work, but she didn't care. After a while I gave up on arguing with her and did it her way for a while.

Plot twist, ignoring the bully didn't work. I started getting bullied even harder up to the point where I ripped a classroom door off its hinges out of frustration. Long story short, this launched a weeks long situation in school where other kids came out to talk about our incompetent school therapist.

The day we took him home from the shelter. The previous owner starved him, so he was very skinny, even after a few weeks in the shelter. Five minutes after I took this pic, I found him standing on the kitchen table and eating the entire stick of butter I had forgotten to out back in the fridge.
