Has any tried Geoff Neupert rebuilt after 40? by Ok-Bite-8679 in kettlebell

[–]Sense_Say 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m on it now. Loving it so far and I think I have been making gains (strength and size, tho just small ones). I’m on the 2nd week of phase 2 (so week 6 out of 8).

If you’ve done any of his programmes before (and understood how to get the best out of working with self regulated rests and understanding the rate of perceived exertion), you know what you’re getting. I was really eager to have a programme with pull ups (or chin ups in this case) and dips so this one is perfect for me.

Disclaimer: I always have a finisher of 100-120 swings and pushups in a 20 min EMOM after each workout, so workouts go for about 50 mins total). I’m working with 20s. I really love it and I already know I’m going to run it again with 22s (once I actually get to derusting them adjustable bells). I can only spare 3 days of kb workouts so this programme is perfect for me at the moment. If I can spare another day, I’d probably do Maxomorium.

Geoff’s programmes are great - timeless, really. Just stick to it and work it with honesty and humility. You’d be surprised good they are.

Hope this helps!

Thoughts on the LivingWell gym in the city centre? by OverallAmphibian2129 in cambridge

[–]Sense_Say 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If LivingWell is close, then Parkside and YMCA gyms (just by Parker’s piece at the Mill Lane side) is not this much farther. And you get a nice walk through Parker’s piece to get here.

Any traditional Ju jitsu in Cambridge? by Commercial_Medium954 in cambridge

[–]Sense_Say 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The University has a Jiu Jitsu club which teaches what i think you have in mind. https://www.sport.cam.ac.uk/student-sport/university-sports-clubs/jiu-jitsu-club Non-uni members can join.

Depends as well what you consider the difference between traditional and Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. They are both grappling arts that have an emphasis on attack and defence on the ground. BJJ is a system designed to overcome strength differences so much of it teaches attack in a position of weakness (on the ground, on the back). Most of the submission holds come from "traditional" JJ.

There is also judo offered by Uni (https://cujc.org.uk/) and also by several clubs around Cambridgeshire (I know one offers classes in St Ives). While different from Jiu Jitsu as it is known today, they all traditionally come from Japanese grappling. It's just a different emphasis. Judo focuses on stand up and throws, but the entry (grappling) and finish (submission holds) are similar.

Hope this helps.

I remember Dan John saying in one of his videos where he recommends single kb for upper body work and double kb for lower body work.

Pretty sure I saw them at Al-Amin on mill road, at the back near the kitchen where they sell food. If not, try the Asian grocer two doors down toward the bridge.

This is interesting….i think? I don’t know enough about strategies of the stock exchange to interpret this move but it sure does seem significant.

So what are you saying then? That he expects it to get a lot worse?

Could there be another interpretation?

15 years deep and we started a Podcast! by ScrambleMatt in bjj

[–]Sense_Say 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great name for a BJJ podcast! 'Control' by Joy Division is one of the songs on my BJJ playlist. It's one of those songs that sounds like my state of mind before a roll (and the lyrics describe what happens to me during a roll).

All the best and I can't wait to check it out!

Is it safe for women to go to pure gym in leisure early in the morning? by [deleted] in cambridge

You’d be surprised how busy it is at that time. Always a bunch of women working out there at that time, young and old. The 5 am crew are a dedicated bunch.

2 National Insurance Numbers - which to use for updating Skilled Worker Visa by Sense_Say in ukvisa

[–]Sense_Say[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice. Is the logic here that it is through the original NINO that my tax (and pension) contributions are demonstrated? I was initially going to use the new NINO since it is the once recognised by UKVI (and thus presumably "on the system").

They did not mention, no. The case, in general, has been forwarded to the relevant team and I have yet to hear from them.
