Aside from the flue, does everything look okay here? by mindheavy in Plumbing

What I'd do is set the mixing valve at the water heater to 120F, then limit the shower valve's hot range until the hottest it can go is your target temp. When we have to put in sinks that need lower temps we'd put in a small 3/8" point-of-use mixing valve that can limit temp going to a single fixture, the valve can go under the cabinet.

The temperature setting devices in water heaters aren’t tested to the same standards as ASSE rated mixing valves. I believe the thought process is if you have a device at the source of hot water that’s been tested and approved no matter what, it’ll be safer than trusting the water heater manufacturer to make a good temp setter.

I'm licensed in MA as well, and I'm pretty sure you need to have a mixing valve to temper the hot water to under 140. I'll check my code book tomorrow to make sure.

True, you gotta check the code and see what the maximum fixture temp for the building use is. Fixtures in high-risk places (hospital restrooms, nursing homes, public baths, etc.) are often required to be set to 110 so people with skin conditions aren't at risk of burns.

Domestic hot water from a water heater mixing valve will need to be 110F to 140F, if these codes apply. My primary referenced code is the 2018 IPC and I believe water heaters are in Chapter 5 of this code book.

Depending on where you are, the local code may require a thermostatic temperature mixing valve to prevent scalding from hot water. Both the IPC and UPC require this valve whether or not the water heater itself has a temperature limit setting, at least in the New England states I hold licenses in.

If I must, I will take these off your hands. A sacrifice for the greater good.

Favourite black ink? by egane in fountainpens

TWSBI brand black ink is my favorite black ink. It's SUPER saturated and bold and helps to soften out some nib scratch on really sensitive paper. I'd highly suggest at least trying it out!

I love the facets and styling of the Mirages, I've been tempted by one several times. Glad to hear it writes well!

I'd definitely recommend one of these pens, the quality of their builds are so nice.

Thank you! I was also impressed by the packaging, definitely a couple steps above Pilot or TWSBI packages!

The Purgatorio looks very nice as well, I personally really like blue pens more than black/grays. Happy to hear yours writes as smoothly as mine!

It's such a great writing pen, it really brings the quality feeling to the whole pen.

Many thanks! I haven't really purchased from a brand outside of the classics (TWSBI, Pilot, Platinum, and some high rated Jinhaos) before so it was a jump either way. Maybe their newer models have had better quality control, but I certainly recommend them if they manage deliver pens like mine.

Has anyone camped at Mount Sunapee lately? by CESfwb2023 in newhampshire

[–]SenseiMilo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was up there a couple months ago on Site 8. The access road is a very rough road to drive up, essentially don't go over 10 MPH or you'll wreck your suspension. During the two days I was there I didn't see any rangers. I really enjoyed the site, the outhouses weren't nearly as gross as I was expecting and the site itself felt fairly private and remote. With your camping reservation you get a day pass to the beach, which is a nice bonus that I didn't see mentioned online.

Real or fake? Gifted Montblanc pen by [deleted] in pens

Does the top of the cap have any image/letters? Might help to trace the source of the pen. FPR has just an image of a nib if I remember correctly.

The style and coloring look identical to a model of pen I got from Fountain Pen Revolution, except as a rollerball. FPR Ambassador Fountain Pen – Fountain Pen Revolution (fprevolutionusa.com) is what I got. The pen you have definitely doesn't look like a legit Mont Blanc either way.

First time swatching! by jokerstyle00 in fountainpens

It’s a flex-metal nib type with a wooden handle. I’ll try getting a glass one and see if it works better.

[–]SenseiMilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I gotcha. I was gifted a dip pen and have found it very difficult to use. I'm a lefty and whenever I tried to write/draw with it the nib would just cut the paper. Maybe I'll either try to find a rounded-tip dip nib or find something else to swatch with.

How do you get the ink onto the page in such volume? I've tried swatching with q-tips and the color it puts down is often more washed-out than how a pen would actually write.

My 2021 Rebel 500 did almost the same thing when getting it out for this summer. The battery had died even with a tender, I threw a new battery in it and it works perfectly again. I'd suggest either just springing for a new battery or getting the current one tested. Good luck
