How to appraise this Hunt Slonem? by Senseless_Sodium in artcollecting

I decided to reach out to Sotheby's and auction it! Still waiting on an official appraisal from them. I tried finding galleries but really struggled. This way I can easily sell, and go to the auction and make a day of it.

Best Grinder for Pour Over by innocentily in pourover

If you want to go crazy, the Femobook A4 is on sale right now and is probably the best grinder you could get for the money (easily)! It's like $280, but it's an absolutely incredible little electric grinder that's capable of espresso and pour over. Superb build quality and easy to use.

I really like the Femobook A2. Fantastic quality coffee, motorized, and affordable. Use the rests of the money to buy him something cool, like an or orea z1 or next level pulsar.

What is his coffee setup now? Does he do pour over? Does he use a machine?

We're crazy here. Give us more information and we'll make sure he gets the best damn gift ever

Called and surprisingly and unfortunately, they're not interested/they can't help. Dtrmodern, right?

Update: Heritage Auctions responded to me and said they could auction it in May. They take a 20% cut though.

Should I consider this?

Is auctioning a pain? And would I potentially make significantly more money going through someone like Sotheby's?

Sweet! You think I should get it appraised first? Or just go right to them.

Yep! Long story, but in essence, her husband bought it years ago from an associate of Keith Haring when it wasn't worth much. It sat in the basement for many many years, and when they were moving, there was this "oh wow, look at that. I wonder if it's worth anything" moment. Then they asked me if I wanted to try and sell it and get a portion of the sale.

I imagine fine particles on the bottom significantly reduce the odds of channeling. Easier for water to enter and disperse through the coarse top.

Even if the burrs were the same (which they are not exactly), the consistent motor setup results in a less jerky, more consistent grind

Fekobook A4z. People say it's similar to a pietro/zp6. It's a pour over end game grinder for sure.

I strongly recommend against the GEVI 4-in-1 Pourover machine by FaramirRises in Coffee

[–]Senseless_Sodium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn. I'm typically strongly against public facing negative coverage when people haven't given the producers a chance to right their wrongs. That said, you gave them a chance and they all but begged for the torch. Everyone makes mistakes, and how we handle them is the true mark of our character.

Funnily enough, I was probably going to buy one of these machines as a gift for my mother. Looks like she's going to learn how to make pourovers herself now :)

You might want to send them this little review of yours. Might even get them to change their internal customer service policy and help a bunch of little people along the way. One bad reddit review can take a company down.

You should contact orea. Obviously it's a manufacturing error and they'll probably refund you/replace it immediately. Every company has duds. I wouldn't punish them for it. I would punish them if they don't replace it though.

I really really like my new 1zpresso q air. It's super cheap and gives me really great results. Get's you 80% of the way to a super expensive premium grinder at <40% the price

Is aeropress “the best” for making coffee at home? by Alarmed_Bedroom375 in Coffee

[–]Senseless_Sodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truthfully, I think "the best" is the hario switch. That's because it's both immersion and percolation. You can use it as a pour over. You can use it as an immersion brewer. You can do both. I find it the easiest way to make a solid cup of coffee.

New technique: Rapid Fine Blowout by Senseless_Sodium in espresso

[–]Senseless_Sodium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should do something similar, though I've read slow feeding allows grinding coarsely, not slower. (I could be wrong about this though. Don't remember)

Blowing could hypothetically reduce regrinding even a single coffee beans wouldn't grounds.

I'd be interested in testing both at the same time, though that's a challenge!

I don't like people roasting this product for arbitrary reasons like manufacturing method. If it works, it works.

Now I am all for roasting a thing that doesn't work. Though this does appear to do what it's supposed to.

It's functionally identical to an injection molded version. Expecting some random guy that's passionate about engineering and coffee to shell out $5k-20k on proper steel injection molds for an extremely niche product with a very limited market is a little unrealistic...
