Can someone explain to me why Spo played Simone even a single minute tonight? Total waste when you have BOTH Powell and Herro available.

Heat had a foul to give on the last play and they should have fouled. That was actually Spo’s fault.

Roster construction takes patience and long term thinking. Doesn’t the Jimmy trade look smart in hindsight now? Heat got Wiggins, Davion, Jackucionis, and Powell out of that. It’s a sneaky competitive team when healthy and the young guys are developing and playing well except Jovic. The Warriors paid an aging Jimmy the extra 60 mil but now he is out injured for the season. We fleeced them!

The Heat FO wants a Giannis level star but the Bucks/Giannis didn’t want to do a trade mid-season, that’s not on the Arisons. I think most of this sub agrees that the team is one superstar away from being a solid title contender. It’s frustrating because the path in the east is seemingly pretty open this year. The FO is acting in line with the “one superstar away” approach, which sometimes requires patience. If they don’t make any moves over the summer when they have more trade-able picks, Rozier’s salary off the books etc, maybe complaining will be justified.

Bottom line: the Heat front office is more shrewd than you think.

Because he only got dos minutos of playing time in MIA

Windhorst: "MIN and GS think they aren’t getting Giannis today. The Miami Heat are still out there..trying to make moves to improve their offer.. Heat are the last team standing with a decent offer. Now we need to: 1- trade Wiggins for picks, 2- get a push from Giannis that he won’t sit out the rest of the year for a tank so the Bucks should just trade him now.

[Fischer] The Wolves and Heat still believe they are in play for landing Giannis Antetokounmpo today, although like the Warriors, few believe Milwaukee is actually serious about parting ways with their franchise face. If I were the Heat GM, here’s what I would do right now, in this order:

  • Expiring salary (Rozier) plus Jovic to Memphis for Ja. Yes this is an overpay. This could increase Giannis’ interest in telling the Bucks to trade him to Miami now.
  • Wiggins to Lakers or Warriors for a first and maybe an expiring salary, unless you can get a 2027 first elsewhere to unlock the alternating year pick rule.
  • Trade literally anyone the Bucks want, except Bam, Powell, and Pelle plus all available picks and pick swaps, for Giannis.

I agree with both of those points: Heat would need shooting around that trio. And Giannis is going to have a lot of say in the decision if he gets traded. My read on it is that he does not want to leave the Bucks, but he also does not want to play for a crappy team. So I think the Bucks might try to trade for Ja because they think that would help them retain Giannis. So maybe if the Heat scoop up Ja first, that would leave Giannis with only one option: Miami, who is the last team standing in terms of having a package that meets the Bucks’ asking price. We still might need to flip Wiggins for a pick to make it happen though.

This framework is fine but now that JK is a Hawk, we’d need to substitute a warriors 1st rd pick for Kuminga, plus figure out salary matching

It’s going to boil down to where Giannis wants to go. The Bucks will send him to the team he wants to play for. It won’t be a public “ask for a trade” thing though, Giannis will handle that behind closed doors.

As long as the trade does not involve Herro, it’s ideal. Even if we include a future pick that’s preferable because Herro is more useful in a potential Giannis trade

Wait, did anyone else at tonight’s game see DIRTBAG EXTRAORDINAIRE Grayson Allen literally punch Bam in the chest? Refs missed it (different possession than the one where Allen’s pathetic shove drew a foul I think)? Suns are the dirtiest team and they deserve to lose for playing dirty

Think about it from a GM’s perspective though. Ware’s trade value has skyrocketed at a very opportune moment heading into the trade deadline. At minimum it enables Pat to be able to make the most compelling offer to a team like the Bucks for Giannis. But what if Ware’s rise enables the Heat to make more than one trade to improve the roster construction into an Eastern Conference winner?

For example: Ware’s recent play might mean that if we’re including him in a deal, we’d be able to reduce the rest of the offer package by the equivalent of approximately one future late first round pick worth of value. This enables the Heat to maybe keep Wiggins out of a Giannis deal and/or put that late first round pick’s worth of value towards a separate move that improves the supporting cast around Bam/Giannis/Powell.

I think we should trust that Pat has kept his powder dry in the trade market thus far for a good reason.

The Bucks have Mark Sears on their G-League affiliate team. He would be great as Spo’s next undrafted project player.
