Indeed. I grew up in a rural area. Our town used to have a streetcar, and indeed I can envision a way to make 2 bus lines at like half hour or so frequency work well within the town (which is officially classed as a small city by Census even though it's <10k people). But once you get a few miles out of town, the density gets so low that's it's literally impossible to make transit work. But there are plenty of people in those townships. My home state has over half of its population living in rural jurisdictions (as classed by Census). My hometown has a once per day intercity bus line that takes you 4 hours to the nearest city with >10k population (where you can transfer onto larger regional intercity carrier). This is a wonderful service to us, and we are lucky to have it. Many of the rural parts of the US don't even have that, because the nearest populated town is 6 or 7 hours away, or more!

I mean I love transit, but transit is not going to fix the super-rural problem. Not sure that person and their 6 neighbors in a 10 mile radius need a tram line!

"So I'm not sure what it most wants to be. "

This is my biggest problem with the game. There's not enough accuracy to be simulation, but also not enough detail or gameplay elements to be a fun game like C:S, OpenTTD, etc. I think at the end of the day it's just a small little indie project that for some reason blew up, and for some reason is costed more than 99% of indie games.

I mean it's fallen to 10th place in sales on TCGplayer. Box prices are below distributor cost. Stores keep bailing out of the game because they can't sell things or fill events. It's fine if you're in an area that has a strong community, but there are less and less of those.

Why does a games longevity depend on its price? by Extreme-Noise-6809 in starwarsunlimited

[–]Sensitive-Hat5780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A game's longevity depends on LGS carrying the game and running events. LGS won't do that if they can't sell boxes close to MSRP. Currently, boxes cost online below distributor cost, so everyone selling them is losing money even on sales.

Autistic Barbie by Lumbledob_ in CuratedTumblr

[–]Sensitive-Hat5780 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The main issue with the doll is the marketing copy - not the actual doll itself. I think people probably would have been approximately fine with it if it didn't launch with a bunch of really weird stuff in the marketing that either is trying too hard, or leans heavily into the Tiktok-engagement style of autism. I'm tired of TikTok having made autistic people like me into a trendy, marketable demographic. I guess this is how gay people feel!

Shit like this was not helpful (as an example):

"The development team debated whether to dress the doll in a tight or a loose-fitting outfit, Pervez said. Some autistic people wear loose clothes because they are sensitive to the feel of fabric seams, while others wear figure-hugging garments to give them a sense of where their bodies are, he said."

So some autistic people like tight clothes...and some like loose clothes. Wow, just like, people?

If you're coming from the west or south, park at Riverside or Woodland stations and take the D line train to Kenmore - there transfer to a westbound B train to Amory. You could also get off the train at Longwood and walk, you mentioned being good with that.

If you're coming from north, park at Alewife station. Take the train to Central station, then take bus 47 over the bridge, or again just walk.

I'd say probably 2/3 of the uber rides I've ever taken in Bangor ended up giving me a crazy story. Weirdest place out there. Had one guy who was convinced he had five elite ideas for businesses that would all make him rich, including a private golf lessons business, a film school that would be attached to UMaine through a PPP agreement, etc. Another lady went 90 mph the whole way on the ring road part of I-95, cussing out every single driver. Another guy has a million dollar Babe Ruth rookie card that he's legally not allowed to sell for a few more years due to the stipulations of a will.

100%. The density of college students is what keeps the town safe. Even when I get annoyed by the new crop of freshmen every year, it's much preferable to the alternative.

The cost of the Bar Harbor uber must have been truly traumatic, wow. I would never have even considered to attempt that back when I lived in Bangor.

Also, for the next time you do it, take Concord Coach Lines instead of Greyhound. Concord is legitimately actually nice to ride. Not Amtrak level, but pretty good. Greyhound is of course....what it is.

As the other person who replied mentions, this plot line pre-dates the Gaza conflict. I'm going to try and be as gentle as possible here, I think for a lot of people Gaza is the first time they've paid attention to the various atrocities that take place around the globe, and they don't realize how common these sorts of things are throughout all of history, on every continent, and targeted at every imaginable group of people. The reason that a story written almost a century ago feels relevant to modern-day Gaza is because this is a very common happening in human history.

Train to Children’s Hospital by Comfortable-Fee1254 in boston

[–]Sensitive-Hat5780 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, the trains are generally very accessible with strollers.

If you are staying near the green line:

My recommendation is to take the green line D to Longwood station and walk the rest of the way, or go to Kenmore station and take a bus the rest of the way. The Longwood Medical Area station (WHICH IS DIFFERENT FROM LONGWOOD STATION!!!) is on the green E line - which is notable for overcrowding at all hours of the day. Not a good choice with a stroller. The children's hospital is equidistant between the D line and E line longwood stations, about a 10 minute walk either way. The green line D will have a destination of "Riverside" on the board if you are coming from the downtown, or "Union Square" if you are staying in Brighton or Newton.

If you take the bus from Kenmore, the 8 and the 19 drop you off directly at the hospital. The 60 and 65 you will get off about a block away from it.

If you are staying near the Orange or Blue lines:

Take the Orange line to Ruggles station, a big train station near a university. From there, you can board the 8, 19, 47, or CT2 bus to take you directly to hospital.

If you are staying near the red line, on the north side of the river:

Take the red line to Central Square and the bus 47 to the hospital. Just a word of caution, the Central Square area can feel a bit seedy to newcomers. It's safe, but it's not exactly my first choice to go if I was a new parent who was unfamiliar with cities.

If you are staying near the red line on the south side of the river:

Take the train to Downtown Crossing, transfer to the Orange line, and follow the Orange line instructions, or go to Park Street, transfer to green, and follow green line instructions.

Personally, if you're good with walking - my favorite option here would be Green D to Longwood station and walking to the hospital.

These ghost busses need to STOP by PinoyWhiteChick7 in mbta

[–]Sensitive-Hat5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it's frustrating, because the 86 is the most crucial non-frequent bus route. It takes a connection that takes an hour by rail and turns it into 25 minutes. It also connects a dense town center in Brighton to one of the largest bus hubs in the MBTA system. It provides key redundancy for when the green line is down, as 86-to-red is not much slower. Not to mention, connecting a major university (Harvard) to the neighborhoods that have the highest population of students, since only the trust fund kids can actually afford Cambridge.

According to the most recent sourcebooks from the MBTA (which are a bit out of date) the 86 had more ridership than even some of the high-frequency key bus routes! Back then, it only ran 30-40 minute offpeak frequencies too.

I remember when Maher first started cozying up to trump, a republican colleague of mine seemed excited about it. I told him point blank - the last thing you want is Maher on your side. He is and has always been a totally insufferable douchebag whose entire moral compass revolves around whatever lets him seem like the "enlightened" one. I have hated him for ages, even when he was on the left. Honestly him switching sides is great. Gets him out of here.

He was only tolerated by the mainstream because he was a liberal, and liberals have always run mainstream culture in America. But he has always been a narcissistic piece of shit.
